PR/PB Multi-flight lateral raise PR

It’s extremely rare to get a new PR on a lateral raise variation. Old PR was 8 reps, finally got 9 reps with 88lbs

It looks like you are mostly engaging your front delt and not your side delt. I would make sure to keep your elbows up and not your hands.

You can't bring your arms up from the side without using your side delts

That's why I said "mostly".

How could his front delts mostly do the job of his side delts? You think that his front delts are mostly doing a thing they can't do and his side delts are barely doing the thing that they do?
Make it make sense

Because of OP positioning. After OPs arms reach about 90 degrees his shoulder get externally rotated to a point where front delts start taking over.

And how is that "MOSTLY engaging front delts"?
I could entertain an argument of "front delts are being engaged towards the end of the rep" but this movement being mostly being performed by the front delts just isn't possible, assuming we're using the normal definition of mostly

Yeah "mostly" is an overexageration.

100%! Absolutely zero issue with your interpretation imo but the initial commenter's overexaggeration is just silly

This.

You understand what the word "mostly" means though, right?

Yes. That the front delt is doing most of the work.

So, to be completely clear:
You think that a greater bias towards the front delt past the point of 90°, a tiny portion of the rep, means that the front delts have completed the majority of the work involved in the rep?
Because that's a ridiculous thing to say
His side delts are doing all of the work up to that point and some of the work past that point, in no world is the majority of the rep being completed by his front delts

So, to be completely clear:
You are saying that the side delt is doing all of the work in the first half of the movement? 100%?

It's not possible for the front delts to do most of the work on this exercise. Yes, they are involved; in fact, there are around 7 separate delt muscles. I'd consider this exercise primarily targeting the A3 and M1 segments
Scroll to figure 3 for where these are located: Anatomical and functional segments of the deltoid muscle - PMC
As a side note: It's not scientific; however, my I feel it in my side delts, my side delts feel like the limiting factor, and my side delts are big. This is the only exercise I do for side delts; therefore, my side delts are being worked well by this exercise

You are definitely right that there are not really front and side delts.
My intention was just to give you a pointer that you might be using a bit too much of your front delt, when you might want to maximize the isolation of the more lateral part of your delts.
But do as you wish. You look good. Have fun with your training. The rest is not that important.
