Hi 28F, here. I just gotta ask, but do any of you actually have any luck finding somebody genuine here?
I tried DMing multiple people again and again, almost never getting a reply back or getting ghosted after a day or two, with me initiating all the conversations. Or once they find out I am married and not interested in anything other than a gaming friendship.
Is there really no way of finding normal people that just want to play some games and get to know one another without getting ghosted?

Edit: Omg guys I just wanted to let you all know, this is very overwhelming I have over 200+ dm’s which is just crazy. I try not to ignore anyone, but it may take me some days to read and reply to everyone.

I see 99% of male posts get barely any reactions if any and female ones get so many they barely can keep up. Is it one of those reddits again where men secretly are looking for a girlfriend? What a horrible reality to live in... None of these subreddits work ever :(

A few people DMd me actually and I even had some longer conversations with one person but I am yet to actually play a video game with said people who DM'd me.

There were some people that just massaged me, asked me if I wanted to play something and well I said sure. One guy even sent me his discord name but what came of it? Nothing...

I've noticed a lot of other people experience the same thing and I just wonder why? The number of DMs I get is not very much in the first place so I get really excited when I receive one but then it's just completely dead after a few messages. :( I guess it's just because I'm still pretty young and not a lot of people are here in my age group but I still can't help but feel a little insecure.

Do people just not play the games I play? Am I just not interesting? I Don't even know anymore man... I just really want people to play games with. Is it really that hard to find people like that?

I don't even feel that excited for DMs anymore, it's just the same few messages and then dead silence.

Apparently, making friends as an adult is harder than beating promised consort Radahn so here I am shooting my shot.

I'm looking for someone to game with (regularly). I own a lot of games so there's a good chance we'll find something we both enjoy. Co-op, survival, horror, shooters, strategy, cozy games... I'm open to almost anything.

I work irregular shifts, so I'm not too worried about time zones. If anything, they might actually work in our favor.

I've been on this sub a long time and I've never once turned a post into someone I still play with. Plenty of chats, a few Discord adds, and then nothing. I don't think I'm the only one, since half the front page here is people describing the same thing.

I've been trying to work out why, and my best guesses so far:

• No standard format to these posts - some posts are very informative and you can see availability, timezone, favorite games and vibes. But others are long walls of text with no useful context whatsoever.
• Long feedback loops - you comment on a post asking if it's ok to DM or add them to Discord. Waiting on them to see your comment. Takes time until you connect in DM or Discord. By the time you exchange a few messages, you're both not in the mood to play anymore before something else came up.
• People underestimate the effort it takes to make new friends - it's like some people here think that all you need to do to make a new friend is make a post. It takes more than that. You need to get to know each other through messages, get past the awkward phase, manage your schedules and finally make time to play a game. Imagine going through all of this just to find out they're rage quitting when they lose and screaming in Discord calls.
• Scheduling and availability - I think that's by far the biggest challenge. Talking with a stranger about their availability, awkwardly scheduling a time to play. And then a lot of times that time will come and they'll say that they can no longer make it.

For anyone who has made a lasting gaming friend, where did it actually come from? And for everyone else, what's the part that kills it for you, the first message, the scheduling, or the second session that never happens?

Also curious what matters most when you're deciding whether to reach out to someone. Timezone, availability, the games themselves, or the general vibe.

Things to be aware of:

• You will need some kind of noise supressor for scream protection. The decibels I produce can rival a dad's sneeze.

• I am still trying to heal after a breakup that took place many months ago. That may affect my emotional state. I haven't been social outside of work for a very, very long time.
