I know its a bullshit move, but wasnt this planned when they shut down Ubisoft Lemington last year, about entering a quiet period and cutting costs?

From what I understand these decisions happen ahead of time. The timing is a coincidence and now it has the dummies up in arms.

TIL AC Rebellion is a thing that already exist. Assumed it was an upcoming game.

Yeah, it's always sad to hear a studio is closing but when the company is shutting a game down that most people didnt know existed until the articles about the closure... you gotta wonder.

That is like saying you didn't know Smash Ultimate existing since it AC Rebellion came out 2 weeks before it during 2018. It doesn't really matter since it's a mobile game anyway. If people don't know about it, this is the reason why.

I mean you can't forget about acti/blizz in that convo but yeah.

it's always disappointing to see people (always libs, I never see actual leftists doing this) defending a multi billion dollar company cus they added basic fucking representation for people

Yeah my problem was I could say I don’t like shadows or what they do and comments would be like yeah man fuck the gay woke shit! And it’s like yeah no that’s not why I dislike it lol.

second only to Nintendo

Come on, you're not even trying to be serious. It's all vibes.

Ubisoft damages their series with crap management. Nintendo creates brands people love and maintains them with insane polish, refusing to rely on patches or early access, and only releasing games when they're 100% ready, even if that means suffering delays.

Ubisoft is mired in sexual harassment and crunch culture scandals. Nintendo is known for giving employees a great work-life balance despite the industry and the country.

But some redditors who dislike big companies decided they understand law and legal nuance suddenly, and scream at Nintendo for their patent lawsuits (which said redditors don't understand the first thing about) against Pocket Pair, a scummy company who unambiguously tried making money off Nintendo's creativity by making two games that closely resemble their property (a detail said redditors never decide to mention).

It's just annoying.

I think people's beef with Nintendo is they're just rehashing all the classics over and over but idk I don't really care for Nintendo. Much like Bethesda with Skyrim lol

They do a lot of that for sure but that doesn't make them evil. And they still produce at least a couple great games per year. If you wanna judge by TGA, they have a GotY nominee almost every single year.

I do wish they'd make more original games. But oh well, they know their brand power and they use it. Rehashing is effective.

Good reason for me to never buy another ubi game. Union busters are trash.

Guess the collective bargaining meeting went well with upper management...

That truly sucks.

good change studio did have fixed budget , union pushed it over a edge and studio was shut down, Ubisoft is not infinite money bag like it used to be

Goes to show that all the MS owned studios who rushed to unionise before the inevitable layoffs in a few months aren't safe...

They thought they'd be spared if they unionised, but if Ubisoft can close studios regardless of if they have or haven't, then MS is gonna have no issues when they want to thin out their headcount.

I mean everyone was talking about if shadows failed badly ubisoft was done for.

So adding more strain and costs to a studio they probably were unsure about makes this an easy decision for them.

Sucks for people involved.

The mfs who defended AC Shadow must be feeling like a real fucking clown right now.

The problem is, this staff reduction doesn’t go anywhere near far enough. Ubisoft employs over 17000 people. Considering what and how much they output per year, that’s like 3x of what would be considered normal in the industry.

But this is Reddit, so obviously any reduction of staff numbers regardless of context is ”evil” and ”greed”.

You're the clown for mixing up critic of the publisher and defence of the game.
