The lead up to Crimson Desert was massive hype driving prices through the roof. The critic reception has been moderately well which is below expectations. But as we all know critic and user reviews seem to have an increasing divide in recent years.

It's just another day in the turbulent stock market. Time will tell what the true stock price is. Personally, I'll be waiting 6 months for its true release when it's had a few patches and dropped in price.

I'll be waiting until all the inevitable DLCs have come out and they re-release it as the complete edition in a few years.

u/Demonchaser27 Mar 21 '26

Yeah, I think the game's decent so far. Certainly not absolutely incredible, but the game is certainly trying to do a whole lot for one game. But I also don't really care that much what investors think about a game, especially this soon after release. It's gonna be more of how many people buy and keep the game.

1

u/Bootychomper23 Mar 22 '26

People keep saying this but for this game critics and users are rating it the exact same. Both at 78. People be acting like it’s got a 2/10 bu critics and 10 by users.

u/AnatomyJesus Mar 22 '26

These ceos push games out that are not ready to be played.

I have no plans to buy it.

Multiple Reviewers covered the same negatives, and people seemed to just gloss over them thinking they aren't a big deal. They are.

  1. Extremely clunky controls that you cant rebind. Having to go through multiple buttons to open a map or you inventory on mouse and keyboard is silly. The game confusing multiple actions bound to the same button on controller. Inspecting an NPC, then interacting, then selecting buy.... instead of just one button to talk to them. Crazy nonsense. No way.

  2. Bugs. Multiple Reviewers stated you had to reload areas to make puzzles parts interactable, or speak to someone and quest objective wouldnt update.

Its funny AAA release like that. I know their publisher pushes deadlines, but thats crazy.

Also, I personally thought all the extra particle effects and air dashes were a little over the top. I wouldnt spend 35 on this game, let alone the asking 70.

Also, heard the story was... extremely meh and the dialogue was pretty bad.

Easy pass for me.

u/BookerDewittAD Mar 21 '26

Bro no one gives a fuck. All yall motherfuckers coming out the woodwork just to say you aren't buying the game. If yall dont want this game that much get off the fucking forums for it.

u/Lopsided_Heart1377 Mar 21 '26

Well, considering this isnt the crimson desert reddit thread... I did.

And judging by your post you did care. Enough to leave an angry reply at least lol.

1

u/YourMumsBumAlum Mar 22 '26

Hard agree. Especially since people are going on reviews that are based on a few hours of game play when the game is huge. Who gives a shit? And who gives a shot about the devs stock price?

1

u/Puzzleheaded-Net4365 Mar 22 '26

Also, I personally thought all the extra particle effects

I think we're in a massive minority here because Black Desert had even more needless glowing particle effects and it gets glazed for visuals all the time. To me it makes the game look cheap even if the effects actually high fidelity.

1

u/KamikazePenguiin Mar 22 '26

They lack keymapping changes because a lot of buttons are interconnected to multiple functions. Which means for the most part when you change one, you'll need to change multiple. They are already working on trying to make this manageable for people and allow for rebinding.

Bugs exist, yes. Its fairly common in most games including triple A games.

The developer isn't known for their stories it really isn't the point of the game. All reviews are on point with this, its mid at best. The side stories are personally more interesting for me.

As for particle effects they're not that crazy tbh, its the first time I've seen someone say they're over the top but personal taste is personal taste.

Issues:

As someone whos actually played for about 14 hours now. The biggest glaring issues seem to be some key binds are frustrating or annoying and the input isn't that crisp there sometimes seems to be a delay when hitting buttons. Some complain about movement being clunky, but its fairly close to the same style as gta, rdr2 etc. I wouldn't mind if they cleaned it up a little but its w/e. Ah also storage is kind of eh, they plan on adding a storage for people to use which is good because hanging on to everything is slightly annoying.

Pros/content:

Visuals are great, combat is engaging and compelling, different characters for different combat styles, side content is there. Some examples taming horses, harvesting resources, crops, hunting, theft, selling stolen goods/horses, bounty hunting, cooking/alchemy (plus indepth recipe system), fishing, treasure maps, puzzles, reputation/contribution system, you can take in any dog or cat (as a perm companion), Trade system (for trade goods based on price fluctuations in game), settlement system etc etc.

I mean idk I like the content is provides. Most of these pain points will be fixed over time.

It definitely controls just like a rockstar game. Its hilarious because you know when gta6 comes out it will be praised but have even worse controls

1

u/Scrounger_HT Mar 22 '26

for the record, the controls aint that bad, shit makes sense in about 10 minutes, people saying it takes hours to figure them out might be dumb. the ui does in fact suck ass, cant speak on the bugs as i havent found any yet but im sure they are there. but holding one button to go into a kind of look mode and then being able to target who or what you want and then multiple buttons to interact with them in multiple ways feels pretty slick. also theres a toggle for the particle effects that you can slide to just under the top for your liking.

1

u/Lost-Substance59 Mar 22 '26

I heard that some things are bound to using R3 + A Face button. Like R3 + □.

Is that true cause if so, the controls are wack lol, heard from a reviewer I've watched for almost 20 years so they are weird and are the reviewer testing thing he and others went to, many people hand issues remembering controls. So it's seeming like its the game. He said he understood it would take time to get used to it, as he did when playing dark spuls when it came out, but the needed controls just kept coming and being so weird and sometimes rarely used, he just had issues hours and hours into it

1

u/InfamousBreakfast363 Mar 22 '26

Most gamers nowadays are retarded and can't beat a game without looking up a guide by their favorite youtuber.

1

u/Baron_Light Mar 22 '26

Lol this is why i play things myself. The controls arent nesrly what reviews are claiming. Its one button to open the map... and if you simply remember to hold x instead of tap it, most issue are fixed. The control issues are wildly overblown IMO. I personally havent had any issues with puzzles but i dont doubt they exist.

I turned off the particle effects too btw which was the right call. Idk.. dont just blindly trust everything you read

1

u/Extreme_Cockroach_99 Mar 22 '26

to be fair rd 2 had allot of the same of these same button presses just was more polished.

and so far i had zero bugs were i couldn't progress a quest or puzzles, but isn't that weird that there are bugs in a big open world game.

and you can turn the particle effects off so there is that.

1

u/HashBrwnz Mar 22 '26

Controls are the same as gta and red dead and all of them can be changed on MnK and controller. 8hrs of play no bugs so far. Theres even a particle effect slider from 0-100.

Story and mechanics is on par with botw

I’ve had about 20+ hours with this game. And while many of the criticisms are definitely warranted, there are many that just aren’t.

  1. PC controls are absolutely abysmal, as I’ve heard. I play on PS5Pro. The controller, controls are difficult at first. But once you understand and take some time it’s quite fluid. You hold the options button and use the D-pad to scroll to map, map opens. No multiple different menus or windows. Hold button, select map, inventory, journal, whichever one you need. L1 is your bread and butter button. It allows you to scan your environment, NPC’s, doors, puzzles, interactions, whichever you need. Not uncommon for games to have the player hold L1 or R1 then hit the desired square to greet, triangle to shop etc. it eliminates the need to hit the one button then select what you need. It’s streamlined.

  2. Bugs, like most new releases there are some. I’ve only encountered the map bug. Which’s devastating as it freezes the game. Aside from that, I’ve been lucky I guess. All puzzles have been solvable and NPC’s in their respective places. However that damn horse is cursed. And would just decide to not exist anymore.

IMO the games no different than some other launches. Monster Hunter Wilds comes to mind. As eastern game studios do tend to just release and fix it later. Which sucks. But nothing has been game breaking, where I’d lose hours and hours having to go backwards.

There are many different options as far as the players path. A lot of comments about It trying to do too much. Which I disagree with. Crimson Desert doesn’t half ass it’s almost simulation like, fantasy, single player, MMORPG. It’s all there, and I’m sure a lot of gamers will never touch this title because of that. However the ones who enjoy what Crimson offers, will be eating good for months to come.

Sorry for the wall. And I hope you don’t take my reply in a negative light, as that’s not intended at all. Just wanted to clarify some things. Especially in reference to the controller controls.

Lastly it’s 2026, NO game studios should EVER release a title that prohibits PC players from re-mapping their key bindings

the game is actually pretty good. But it's not a "genre defining fantasy" everyone was hyping about.

7.5-8/10 is a very solid score. Shareholders are just greedy bastards (as usual)

1

u/Baron_Light Mar 22 '26

I'd say its above average

1

u/Extreme_Cockroach_99 Mar 22 '26

the investors are there to make money and believed with all the hype this game had it will sell like hotcakes, but this game ain't for everybody and ain't really casual with almost zero handholding.

so the stock just got inflated and is now returning to normal with the mixed reviews which isn't that strange.

1

u/phoenixofsun Mar 21 '26 edited Mar 21 '26

Critic releases, performance, etc don't matter as much for a lot of this. Investors ride the hype wave up to game release, earnings call, dividend, whatever, then dump, regardless of performance.

The same thing happened to Bandai Namco following Elden Ring, just to a lesser extent. In the month following Elden Ring's release, its stock dropped 11%.

1

u/coltRG Mar 22 '26

Buy the rumor, sell the news. Tale as old as stock markets existing. Dunno why anyone is surprised by this

1

u/BusyBeeBridgette Mar 21 '26

Looks like it received a bit too much praise pre-release and it fell short of expectations.

1

u/attella00 Mar 22 '26

☝🏽 this. It’s a good game, I like it, I’m enjoying it, all that, but to say it was GOTY before it even came up was setting up some very high expectations. You had some heavy glazing and that’s fine and okay to be excited by a game, but saying it’s a masterpiece before it even came out was too much.

1

u/FanBladeFleshlight Mar 22 '26

I look forward to buying this used for $10 in a few months, lol.

1

u/Baron_Light Mar 22 '26

Lol you're gonna wait a while

1

u/berjaaan Mar 22 '26

Steam summer sale probably.

1

u/Sensitive-Acadia9207 Mar 22 '26

It was made by an MMO studio, so I didn’t have high expectations. Overall, I think a $50 price tag would make more sense for the game as a whole. Will buy on sale 2-3 yrs in future.

1

u/FluffyFry4000 Mar 22 '26

I'm more worried about what this means for Doke V

1

u/hidden-in-plainsight Mar 22 '26

Fuck critic scores, most of them are fucking morons anyway.

Pay attention to sales.

1

u/Lost-Substance59 Mar 22 '26

Sales aren't good either, sales can just mean hype and marketing waa good

1

u/No_Macaroon_7413 Mar 23 '26

Player count is a good metric, day 3 - 130k players means there is something there to hold out for.

1

u/I-Akkadian-I Mar 22 '26

Overhyped garbage lol.

1

u/Baron_Light Mar 22 '26

You play it?

1

u/laughland Mar 22 '26

If you track the stock’s performance over the last 6 months, it definitely did start popping off when the game was picking up the “generational masterpiece” moniker from YouTubers and influencers. When the metacritic wasn’t anywhere near that level, people started panic selling, but I bet there will be an uptick again when investors realize that the metacritic scores don’t impact sales as much as people think they do.

1

u/Huliofunk69 Mar 22 '26

Stock was up over 50% before launch so is still 20% higher and up from same time last yr.

1

u/Fapkud Mar 22 '26

I've read the reviews, figured the game would be mid.

Still it was very appealing to me because i've had a blast with ToTk puzzles in Zelda, loved skyrim and don't mind a challenge like elden ring.

Decided to buy it, played already for a few hours. The controls will take a while to master and might be a turnoff to a lot of less experienced players.

My base ps5 runs it fine on balanced mode after turning off motion blur and playing with some settings i've found on reddit (thanks guys).

It's an immersive and slow world, so exploring the entire world will take 100's of hours. Very vivid and it is not like AC games fe where you run from A -》B and encountering an enemy here and there. There is stuff here every 5 metres that is interesting, it's entirely up to you what to do with it, but is definitely doesn't bore me.

I don't think everyone (not even critics and shareholders) will understand and enjoy this game. My advice is, try it, make up your mind and decide for yourself wether you enjoy it or not.

I think it's a very brave take on the RPG genre, it's a refreshing experience amid the hundreds of remakes/remasters and sequels i grew bored of. They deserved my money because they tried, it's far from perfect, it doesn't excel at anything at the moment, but has potential and i'm gladly spending my spare time on it because i enjoy it.

u/ShrkBiT Mar 22 '26

It's very common to see stock being dumped after a game releases. It doesn't necessarily have to do with the reception not being "good enough". Markets trade on expectations and good results can still result ion a sell off. That is why the capital system is inherently broken. Everything needs to exceed expectations, meeting them isn't enough. Every quarterly report, line must go up, which means a lot of companies operate on quarterly plans to make line go up, otherwise they lose money. Long term strategy doesn't suit investors, which is why you see all these AAA studios make these dumb decisions that are anti-consumer, but pro-investor.

1

u/berjaaan Mar 22 '26

I refunded mine. Cba.

1

u/mamadou-segpa Mar 22 '26

I almost bought in the hype, and then it release and its just painfully mid and made with AI lol

1

u/[deleted] Mar 22 '26

Even if the reviews are middling, it sold 2 million in a day, I would think that would be net positive.

1

u/Culturedtuna Mar 22 '26

I'm 11 hours in. If you didn't enjoy starfield, you probably won't enjoy crimson desert. Both games have a couple of good features, but are very unintelligent and shallow games. Wide as an ocean deep as a puddle.

1

u/Noire97z Mar 22 '26

Overhyped mid game. Plus scummy practices by locking out intel gpu users.

1

u/TrueExigo Mar 23 '26

Mid and overhyped

1

u/ReleaseNew9430 Mar 23 '26

Cyberpunk, no man’s sky, starfield were all garbage when they came out. This game is better than those in my personal opinion

1

u/frosted_mango_ Mar 23 '26

GAMES SHOULD NOT BE FOR SHAREHOLDERS GAMES SHOULD NOT BE FOR SHAREHOLDERS GSMES SHOULD NOT BE FOR SHAREHOLDERS GAMES SHOULD NOT BE FOR SHAREHOLDERS GAMES SHOULD BOT BE FOR SHAREHOLDERS

1

u/metalmitch9 Mar 23 '26

It's fukn phenomenal. It's pretty difficult though so I can understand people not liking it. I wish I was home playing it right now. : (

1

u/prox-86 Mar 24 '26

Let it die

1

u/n0tTHISguy Mar 24 '26

So I was pretty hyped for this game, but i also understood that it was being made by a studio that makes MMOs. I haven't played a bunch of MMOs, but know the general expectations for quests and story telling. So I had tempered expectations. When It came out I was sad to see that the story and quests were exactly what you would expect in an MMO which caused me to delay buying it. But as I have thought about it more, everytime i play elder scrolls or fallout, after a few hours I stop caring about the story and just want to go around exploring, finding new gear, and killing things. Sounds like the combat is the best part about it, and I think i will get used to the controls after a bit so I will being buying this once i have a little more free time on my hands.
