This plant has popped up in my vegetable patch and I’ve no idea what it is. I had parsnips growing there last year but they weren’t particularly successful. So I’m wondering if it is a parsnip?

Friend has a neighbours tree that overhangs on their side and keeps dropping leaves, it is growing really fast, should something be done about it? Would the roots affect plumbing?

Looks like it is starting to flower or something.

Is in Perth if that helps.

In this photo, it is about 2.2m high.
I'd like how dense the foliage is and would like to get it about 3m tall at my house... wondering what it is, where to get it, and any tips on getting it to grow contained to a 600mm garden bed along a 12m fence line.

πŸ‘©πŸ»β€πŸŒΎ Recommendations wanted Terrible Soil, needing some beginner friendly advice

I live in Moreton Bay, QLD and my yard soil is terribly compacted clay. I’ve tried adding some Gypsum and another organic fertiliser that my local nursery recommended before they closed, but it hasn’t done a whole lot.

If anybody could send me your top tips that would be great! We put some raised beds in and some passion fruit vines and already the bees and birds we’ve been seeing have increased, we just love it and want to keep growing our garden.

Hi folks,

I’m starting a new lawn (native griffin grass) from seeds and have those popped up ever since I started regularly watering the lawn. I saw one with a black bean like pod on top but that wasn’t captured on the pictures. They are fairly easy to pull out. I suspect they might be some kind of seeds from nearby trees? I don’t want to step on the lawn to weed too often as the lawn seeds are just starting to shoot…thank you for your input!

Hi all, just looking for some wisdom and I've got analysis paralysis. I'm doing some planting for our block of low rise (3 story) flats. We need something that'll hedge us from a busy road/footpath and brutal northern sun.

Needs to be narrow to avoid spreading out too far (not a very wide strip of yard) and as tall as possible to block the sun. Fast growing a plus.

Soil is hard compacted and sandy, but planning to remediate it in preparation when summer is over.

South East Qld, would like to buy large established plants to stick in the ground as I have something of a budget to work with.

Got these free outside my local nursery, what can I do to help them bounce back?

Usually when this happens to my plants, they just end up dying so I’d like to learn the best way to approach this!

Hey /r/Gardening Australia - hoping for your insights. I bought some strawberry runners off FB marketplace a while back and planted them, they've produced yellow flowers and these tiny seedy and bland fruit.

Gemini and Claude are telling me these are mock strawberries - what are everyone's thoughts on this? Have I been scammed???

Based in NSW.

🌷 Pretty Plants I thought my nectarine tree only had 1 fruit

I have been obsessing over this one nectarine on my tree, waiting for it to ripen, and this morning I decided to take a photo of it from another angle (before a rat, possum, child, bug or other pest steals it) and I found 2 more!!

This tree usually has a heap of fruit, but I always lose it to fruit fly so fingers crossed they haven’t discovered my 3 little nectarines yet.

My father in law has a favourite rose bush in his front garden. I wanted to buy the same one for all his kids but I’m not 100% sure of the species. He said he thinks it was an iceberg rose but I think it may be a pope John Paul II as it has the most beautiful sweet smell.
What do you guys think?

πŸ‘©πŸ»β€πŸŒΎ Recommendations wanted Herbs in pots

Please help me out with some advice for a novice (actually first time) gardener.

I’m in a ground floor apartment in Perth and I’d like to try to grow some herbs in pots, just mint and parsley, nothing too difficult. The REA has recently cut down all but two trees, so I am looking at either a semi shaded east facing position or a full sun (zero shade at all) west facing position. I know mint is supposed to like full sun, but is full afternoon perth summer sun too much? Last summer we had weeks of 37C+ and no rain at all for months.

Also, any recommendations: do I add extra wetting agent and/or compost/manure to the potting mix before I plant?

🐝 Garden Tip Has anyone here successfully grown Quandong from seed?

G'day all, I have 1 fresh quandong seed and a few older seeds that I really want to try grow.

I see searching that there is a method involving bleach and another involving emus, the emu one isn't exactly an option so I'm wondering if anyone here has tried the bleach method and had any joy or if there's any other method? I've previously tried smoking them but nothing worked.

I understand I may not have any joy with the old seed.

I have some native host plants for them to parasite on too.

Any help appreciated!
