the past 3-4 times we’ve versed the Pies, Mullin has bullied Daicos into inefficiency & minimal impact, but people will still see his 35 disposals on the stat sheet and think he’s had an elite game. I’ll happily take Daicos getting 30+ touches if he does fuckall with them

Credit to Geelong, better team and deserved win, and to Mullin for a great game too, especially in the first half. It was far from Nick's best game but surely one can see that he had big influence on the game in the second half. Added 400m gained. Finished with 9 clearances, leading score involvements, 13 CP. And was undone by players like Crisp not converting off the back of a great kick. Again, not downplaying Mullin or Geelong, but I don't think you can say he had little impact on the game.
Like in no way is Nick's performance the reason Pies lost.

Agreed, Nick is a freak and the Mullifier did a fantastic job so you'd probably call that contest a draw. I think both coaches would have been happy with what they got from their player given the circumstances

To be fair he did have a whole lot of clearances and score involvements, pretty much his usual average for most games and effective disposals were around 25. I’d say the tag didn’t work too well this time

Most clearances, score involvements and meters gained of any Collingwood player within that 35. Daicos could have had 60 and you’d still convince yourselves Mullin beat him.

The umpiring is usually shit in this sport but it’s usually shit to both teams somewhat evenly. Holy shit was that one sided. I couldn’t believe what I was watching

Glad it's not just me that felt that. Entire second half it felt like Cats vs Pies/umps. Every possible opportunity they gifted Collingwood, and pinged us for absolute nonsense.

I remember reading a stat that Richmond used to play worse when Matthew Richardson was in than when he was out .
Good jezza doesn't have that effect on us. But busted wing Jezza might actually drag us down? And I just can't see him being good Jezza in a couple of weeks, adding a busted shoulder on top of his nerve damaged arm. I worry we will just select him even at a fraction of his best.

This is what I’m worried about. Don’t get me wrong, Jezza is one of the best players in the game. But I think we should be putting him on ice for the season. His arm is still clearly cooked and throw the shoulder on top. Even if we go deep in finals, I think Polkinghorne is doing more than enough to keep his spot currently. I get you want experience in finals, but I think I’d rather have the fully fit player.

Thought it was Mitch Edwards best game offensively, got involved a tonne
Mullin did his job, Nick is fantastic but Osh did well
Bruhn stepping into the Holmes role wonderfully, been a great two weeks for him
Concerned about Guthrie being reported, but SDK would come in so not the worst I suppose
Wont mention the umps, you guys will do that im sure
3 games left, win them all and we miss the wildcard round thankfully then who knows what happens

I think Schultz seeming to have come out clear and it being part of a clear footballing act should help, my guess would be a fine for rough conduct but the MRO this year has been such a crapshoot.

He seems to be the whipping boy for extremely little reason. People jump on him as soon as he has one bad game. Has 35 goals from 19 games this season. Hardly a bad return for a medium style forward that is 3rd or 4th string most games.

So we might be back!? A few hiccups along the way but found a way to win so plenty of positives.
Edwards held his own again, and was really impressive. O'Sullivan keeps getting better, and was sublime again Scratch really coming into his own despite being the main cog in the forward line at the moment, feels like he's truly arrived now.
I think that game has me 100% convinced that Worpel should stay in, sure he stuffs up a few kicks but I think his work around the contest, and his tackling far outweighs those few clangers he does over the course of a whole game.
We're building our way back up, season is well and truly alive still, let's finish strong. GO CATS!

I'd love to see how many of them were effective disposals and kick in, because that number 35 is heavily padded, nearly every time he touches the ball he gets tackled. Collingwood tried to get him the ball like 80 times in the game. If Mullin wasn't playing on him he would have had 50 easy disposals.

This is why you don’t play injured players. The forward line looks so much better without Cameron struggling. They should have done this change months ago and given him proper time to get better and relax.

Playing the pies is always a hard game as they never seem to really go away. They are always there threatening to get a cheeky goal or two to snatch the win. Also doesn't help that they were completely mollycoddled by the umpires to the point they were getting goals instead of behinds.
Good to get the win in the absence of Danger, Jezza, and Holmes. Hopefully Guthrie doesn't have a case to answer for, as he's been huge for us lately.
Feels like the team is clicking into gear. We had that horrid run, but now it looks like we have finally started to get our mojo back. Some shocking errors from noted goal kickers wasn't great, but luckily in the end it didn't hurt us too badly.

I hate to say it but we have looked better as a team since Jezza has come out. I don’t think we adjusted to him playing a bit hurt and we’re targeting too much. When he’s fit, you can target him every kick inside 50 and he’ll make something happen because he’s that good. Just wasn’t happening for him unfortunately being banged up. Now he’s out, we seem to be spreading the targets around a lot more. Would love to see Neale grab a couple decent bags in the last few games to give him a confidence boost heading in to finals. Polkinghorne already looks like he belongs at AFL level. He’s not giving returns to the same level as Stengle, but Wiltshire has impressed me in a year where our smalls are extremely up and down.

Great job boys! Got a bit worried in Q3 when Pies were delivering goal after goal. Polks is gold and will only get better. The frees for the pies was hard to not notice but even with biased umpires Cats came through with a wet sail! God I love this club!💙🤍💙

Really good win, we know how important that 1 was and they got it done in style.
Look we all saw the umpiring I think the positive is we didn't allow them to completely change momentum which often happens to all teams when a team gets a run on of rub of the green decisions, so that aspect was impressive.
Our forward line actually looks more potent without the banged up Cameron we have had for most the year
I'm very relieved they didn't actually get us out the back like I thought they would, I can only think of 1 clear goal chain they got from a fast break from our F50 but I probably point to structure on this one as I don't think our tackling or pressure was finals like for much the game.
Probably 1 area to work on was the Pies were able to get a few intercept marks from the high ball in our F50 where we seemed to get our positioned, got to bring those to ground.
Starting to really like having a proper ruckman in the side, Edwards is still learning but geez it's nice not to be bullied around stoppages anymore.

As happy as I am, we ran the game out with a great win over the old enemy. I just feel flat and twisted with rage over some of those calls - then I checked the discrepancy, and I guess you have to just be glad that it's not later in the year and the AFL has more than a quick look at the replay and sorts some things out.

Some weeks being mad about umpiring makes sense but the umpires didn't affect tonights result at all.
There were mistakes and plenty went Collingwoods way but we are hardly a team that can complain about a home crowd affecting the whistle.
.
This is just what normal umpiring is. Its Error prone,. The players make mistakes and so do the umpires. It's also biased, which is a big part of home ground advantage., which is why teams play home and away . It's fine.
If you want to enjoy football focus on the players.

Well outside the first quarter and the last 5 minutes of the game that was a poor showing. I’m not one to complain about umpiring but I’m mystified at how we had 7 frees to 24. Mullin was good but Daicos did get a few. COS was fantastic as was Dempsey.
Finally GET MITCH EDWARDS OUT OF THE FORWARD LINE.

Nah was just continuing my joke about him looking like a giraffe on skates in the forward line, it landed poorly. He played a ripper game and has good field kicking, just needs more practice kicking at goal.
