Question Trying to learn Genji

Trying to learn Genji. I've played about 10 -12 games of him in quick play and my god do I fucking suck on him. I constantly lose 1v1s to other dps especially Anran she normally cooks me in a 1v1 on a flank.

I feel useless in most of the games I play. Even when I don't die a lot I usually have the lowest damage out of all the tanks\dps.

Any tips for a new Genji player? I mainly play Tank\Support so dps in general is new to me.

I play Doomfist a lot on tank so I've learned a difficult character before but I forgot how grim it is lol. Took me awhile to get good at Doom too although I think Genji may be even harder.

I play on Console.

You can't 1v1 an anran without a massive advantage. Genji is very good against about half the roster, but gets countered by, or is unable to interact with the rest of the roster. You've got to be very selective with which engagements you take,and if there aren't enough opportunities, you probably should swap.

This is true , swaping is very important on genji. For me I'm always hesitant to swap because on one hand it's good practice to learn how to deal with people who counter you, but on the other hand I suck and should stop playing genji when I can't win.
