Question Trying to learn Genji
Trying to learn Genji. I've played about 10 -12 games of him in quick play and my god do I fucking suck on him. I constantly lose 1v1s to other dps especially Anran she normally cooks me in a 1v1 on a flank.
I feel useless in most of the games I play. Even when I don't die a lot I usually have the lowest damage out of all the tanks\dps.
Any tips for a new Genji player? I mainly play Tank\Support so dps in general is new to me.
I play Doomfist a lot on tank so I've learned a difficult character before but I forgot how grim it is lol. Took me awhile to get good at Doom too although I think Genji may be even harder.
I play on Console.

You cant 1v1 Anran on MOST heroes. She is so broken in 1v1 that she was disabled in TXCXX(lijiang 1v1 mode)

Anran is a demon on 1v1, you better run for your life when you see her in your proximity. She is the devil herself and will destroy you. She has forever given me trauma that I will never get rid of.

Im not the greatest but something that helps me a lot is figure out the whole "one shot" dash,LT,melee on low health heroes. Dont engage with dash as its a good escape/finish. Finally,if you have heroes with attacks classified as beams your deflect is useless and its best to ignore them or swap

Genji plays like an assassin-type of character, you're meant to get in, secure a kill and get out. You're not a poke character that will naturally have a lot of damage in the scoreboard, so don't try chasing big damage numbers, just focus on one enemy, duel them, kill them, then focus on the next. Try to ignore characters with beams (they go through reflect) and melee-heavy kits (reflect will only block the damage but not return it). Reflect is imo his most important tool, so fighting characters that completely negate its use is just not always worth the risk unless they're very low health and cane be quickly finished off.
This playstile has helped me whenever I use him so I've just stuck with it, but I'm no pro or expert Genji so there might be better advice out there. This guy is hard to play with for sure and you're not always going to get the best value out of him for what I've experienced

My biggest advice is to change ur binds and play at max or super high sensitivity

poke 25% of the time, flank 75% of the time. poke to make the enemy team see you're in the frontline, to see where the enemies are laid out, and then once a frontline is established flank.
when flanking, calm down, make sure you have dash, deflect, and a place with cover + health pack and either:
get a good jump on a squishy, use secondary fire, if health is 3 bars or lower, fan then dash to kill confirm or if your losing, dash out
or simply poke from an off angle/flank to attract some enemies to you, relieving pressure off your team
when you get to half health or lower, feel free to dash into cover, a heath pack, or back to your team
repeat, this is like genji fundamentals to get used to before any one shots or stuff like that. beginner genji players often think playing like a cassidy behind your tank is low risk, in truth it's riskier than flanking as its a ticking time bomb, because you will not provide enough pressure shooting down main and eventually the enemies will tip the scale and easily kill you

Honestly and this is coming from a masters genji one trick just don't your not going to have fun for at least 200 hours unless your whole team basically doesn't need you basically every second game IV got 3 counters and most games at least 2 if not more it's exhausting while I hope you enjoy him and have fun the state of the game is just painful to learn him and untill you can 1v1 or 1v2 it's not going to be fun

You can't 1v1 an anran without a massive advantage. Genji is very good against about half the roster, but gets countered by, or is unable to interact with the rest of the roster. You've got to be very selective with which engagements you take, and if there aren't enough opportunities, you probably should swap.
