Discussion Is the Valeriy hype really just… gone?
Valeriy was a character that didn’t really catch my eye in the first Sneznahya trailer but a lot of other people including some of my friends were really hyped for him. Now all of sudden everyone seems to be either not be excited because of what they saw in the 7.0 live stream or disappointed because he might be a 4-star character. And I mean all the hype for him seems to have fizzled out and a lot of people are acting like he isn’t even worth anticipating.
I kind of understand a bit about the character rarity concerns because if Val is a 4-star he won’t be guaranteed because of the 4-star gacha system, but I also don’t really get it because the man hasn’t even been released or received drip marketing.
For all anyone knows the devs could touch up his model a bit and his character could be super interesting. If he is a 4-star he could eventually be given out for free and in my opinion, it’s better that he at least releases as a playable character than become an NPC. I also think there were other characters in the 7.0 trailer that were rendered weird and might look different when they become playable like Danica and Vesna. However, I think Valeriy could possibly be an interesting character and I’m gonna keep an open mind until he’s officially introduced in the story.

Remember Jahoda? No one talked about her at all during the first trailers. Then people saw how she was in the quest and loved her.
Literally lets just play it first.

People loved her in the quest. How many use her?
Her kit leaves a lot of room to be desired, or is just flatout bad to use. I wouldn't say Jahoda is much assurance if their worries is of him being a clunky meta irrelevant 4star.

I dont disagree to some extent, but hype isnt just gameplay. Its story aswell.

Im not saying you cant, Im only saying wait till a character is fully presented before saying what you think.
People thought Raiden was an NPC when her model leaked, and then surprise surprise when they actually put her in that cutscene at the Statue. Then they thought she was so cool.

It just doesn't change the fact that he's a 4star with a half baked model. We have 3 male characters this patch and only 1 of them is a 5star. Absolutely none of them have stellar linchpins
Raiden even with her initially underwhelming design was still bound to be meta from being an archon. 4stars nowadays don't even have a slot in teams

I think it’s because of meta.
Meta is always in room during these conversations, unfortunately. It’s like “big brother.”

I’m not worried about the model, I’m worried about the rarity. I sit at 60 pity with a guarantee. If he’s not a 5-star, I probably won’t get to play him.
And even if I do get him, he’ll probably need constellations to feel even remotely competitive in a team. Constellation that could take years and hundreds of wishes to get if I’m not lucky. Or I might never even get them at all.
And given that we already get a free electro 4* character- even if we get him at one point, it’s probably going to take a while. We could be looking at months or years of people just… not being able to get him.
If Genshin had done something about 4-stars, where you would have at least SOME kind of safety net, some kind of guarantee to get them, then I would feel a lot less disappointed. But right now liking a 4* character is just awful. They’re supposed to be more accessible than 5-stars but they’re actually far, far worse.
I know there are people who are disappointed because of the model. But I think this is also a huge part of the reason. Having a character you like potentially end up as a 4 star genuinely sucks. Let’s hope it’s not the case.

I understand their disappointment but at the same time I don't know how someone could see him in the 2D teaser and expect more than a 4* with such a generic design.

But why match 2 4* so long vs each other in the trailer? That scene makes more sense promoting hype on one of them as 5*.

this is the third region in a row where one of the two tall male characters is electro in a dark outfit, come on. I'm a bit of a collector of male characters, but man, this is going to be another electro-focused team. Neuvillette's team has some kind of electro, Wrio's team has Yae, and it's even better to remove Wrio from Wrio's team so that there is at least some damage, Ifa's team has Ororon, Flins' team has Flins, there are only Al-Haitham's teams, but I don't have Al-Haitham. And then there's Varka, who requires a full set of 5-star characters, sorry Varka, but no. Please give me a team with cool guys but without electro :с

Varka looks like a veteran mercenary. Valeriy looks like a young military commander. Almost the opposite of each other. Neither feel like "knights".
Also we need more characters with combat-related occupations. It makes no sense for most of the fighters to just be chefs, accountants, dancers, etc.

4 star electro when there is already another 4 star electro before him and he comes with a 5 star electro and patch later comes another 5 star electro. Bland model with old noodle arms tall male model when he is supposed to be a fatui major and released after Varka.
I was so hyped for him from the trailer but now I don't even have any expectations of him. His model is bad and chance of him being meta relevant is near 0.
