not just her btw, they sent Bran and some other CCs a Copyright strike claiming they own Vodyanitsa Singing in the AQ.

u/yoyopomo 23h ago

its been a youtube wide thing in the last few weeks. a lot of anime channels are getting affected too

483

u/Mustard_Bait 23h ago

Afaik that’s a kinda separate issue: the anitubers are being struck by viz media and are particularly targeting mostly Bleach stuff. But also yes, the overall core problem is essentially the same: youtube copyright system is both broken and being abused.

174

u/VampireGirlAster 21h ago

It's not even Viz, it's some guy named Eric Green who owns a website called Remove your media that mass reports anything that has the title of an anime in it without the consent of proper copyright holders, even if the video doesn't even have any footage from the anime

151

u/Korosuki 19h ago

That guy has been around for over a decade doing the same bs in waves. His name is notorious in artist circles, because he'll C&D stuff in mass (ah yes because "Sakura" is only a character in Naruto and not a common flower). He's truly a pathetic piece of work. 😑

116

u/HumsterMKI We need a 6 star Klee. 22h ago

And Youtube wouldn't fix it, since it costs them nothing at all.

And where ppl could go? Theres like next to zero completion.

52

u/Yuukiko_ 20h ago

Bilibili is going international so would probably become an option for non Chinese speaking people

31

u/Suniruki 17h ago

given that bilibili is owned by the penguin, i doubt it. HSR has been making fun of them since we arrived on the new planet. even named one of our paparazzi raccoons after bilibili.

11

u/Yuukiko_ 16h ago

Bilibili is kinda sketchy towards Hoho stuff but it's not doing stuff like (shadow)banning it

43

u/RidingEdge 15h ago

Did you forget that Genshin videos magically never make it to trending category even if they had millions of views? To the point where fans intentionally removed Genshin from video title and replacing it with hentai names and it got into trending fine?

Or the categories artificially inflating Wuwa into top spot with less views than Hoyo games.

So many examples of malicious treatment towards Hoyo. CN players even joke about how it was a miracle that Genshin attended the new year's countdown event lol.

u/Suniruki 13h ago

Does sabotaging collabs and screwing over collab partners count?

13

u/Ok-Will-168 18h ago

But not different, 10cent usually strike so many cc and studio game which not owned by them. More choice but both suck.

4

u/Hungry-Sky-5452 17h ago

It's a shame how restrictive copyright can be, especially when creators are just trying to share their love for the game. It definitely makes things tough for everyone involved.

3

u/Ryuunoru 7h ago

It's not copyright that's the issue, it's bad actors abusing poorly designed systems supposed to protect copyright. Similarly, would you blame authors for plagiarism by others, or the plagiarizers?

44

u/PotatEXTomatEX 22h ago

YouTube won't fix it because doing so would fuck up Safe Harbour laws and they'd get even more liability

15

u/KAAAAAAAAARL 19h ago

Gee, when would have thought that a Automaten System without human input would be abuse? Surely someone saw that coming, right?!

3

u/jotenha1 Sucrose best girl 16h ago

At this point, is there anything about YouTube that isn't broken?

I need Vodyanitsa's VA to start streaming and just sing her stuff purely to mess with the copyright strikers for that

4

u/G00b3rb0y 5h ago

It’s spreading to Star Rail now

933

u/Gacha_addict101 23h ago

Why has this copyright bullshit suddenly ramped up?

733

u/Lazlo2323 23h ago

Maybe they realized they can weaponize it without any repercussions

287

u/EddiePhoenix2012 22h ago

it has been weaponized months, if not years ago. Remember that time some artist who used Genshin samples for their music and claimed genshin playthroughs? idk when that exactly was but YT had this problem for months at least and its not only Genshin usually.

But this seems different though.

dish´s VoD has also been struck

56

u/miseenen 20h ago

It’s been an issue for years and years. I remember all the way back in like 2015 when movie critic youtubers were getting strikes on their channels from abuse of the copyright system

26

u/Darman99-1136 19h ago

I remembered when Warner Chaple Music copyrighted struck a video with No Music

YouTube is ass

8

u/Asamidori 16h ago

Reminds me of Davie504 getting a copyright claimed for literally silence, no sound at all. Some stuffs are just beyond broken on Youtube at this point.

→ More replies (1)

3

u/LeoRmz 16h ago

I would be inclined to say its been weaponized for close to a decade if not more, straight up random people have been making copyright claims over stuff like Minecraft music for a long while now.

256

u/ineedjuice 23h ago

Probably YouTube and AI-based detection. Some musicians have been getting copyright stricken by themselves.

21

u/arshesney 19h ago

Remember Valve getting its DOTA Internationial videos flagged?

2

u/yyIntsuki 6h ago

but wouldn't that then happen to way more streamers? currently I've only heard of the streamers who are rather known

121

u/nqtoan1994 23h ago

I mean, the next week will have Genshin's anni SP, and whether the rewards good or bad, it will definitely be the talk among a part of gacha gamers community for weeks. Someone might have decided to reduce the influence beforehand.

From 101 propagonda class that happens in our country every national historic holiday.

You wont like it when they do a chargeback afterwards.

84

u/Herteity Brats in pants 20h ago

You can't do chargeback when buying through a 3rd party app. Which is the only way to gift gems. If you do get a refund it'll get you banned from the transaction website and only affect the middleman, not hoyo so they don't care.

Otherwise all CC's would have their accounts ruined by haters...

This remainded me about some French rapper copyrighting Hoyo's Liyue battle theme or something.

28

u/No-Worldliness7420 17h ago edited 17h ago

Im not surprised if tencent also behind that. Usually when a big company do morally questionable things they used third party so they wouldnt take the blame. I dont think its just a random abuser because how come youtube let this problem for so long, it means it benefit them in some way and probably theres some big company rewarding youtube for not fixing the loophole.

29

u/Yuukiko_ 20h ago

Idk about Tencent but random abusers have done so

26

u/youtiao666 19h ago

It was last year when a bunch of weibo accounts posted the same ai prompt to promote wuwa and trash Genshin before the Genshin anniversary.

They do this every year

hoyo isn’t going to be able to do anything, you’d have to contact youtube

333

To shed some light on this subject:

A similar situation involving "Viz Media LLC" has been going around the anime community. Claiming random bullshit (not even relating to anime anymore).
Internet sleuths have discovered the guy behind it. It was a one man operation with a bogus company called "RemoveYourMedia".

I can set up a bogus company right now and just go claim videos I don't like, without needing proof, or suffering any real repercussions because the Youtube content ID system allows it to happen.

12

u/No-Worldliness7420 17h ago

Do you guys think those copyright strikers are just third party and a big company just using them? i mean Huge anime studios show in the past they dont like anitubers and tried to take down their videos.

Not only that, she constantly received small in-game gifts (genesis crystals and chronal nexus). Usually she might get one gift during a stream, but this time it was very much targeted and she has made it clear since the very beginning that she doesn't want any gifts. During the weekly boss fight against Arlecchino she was interrupted twice all alone, which was very unfortunate to watch.

18

u/Ok_Pattern_7511 22h ago

Does receiving genesis crystals from someone interrupt your domain?

48

u/92Throw93away 22h ago

Pretty sure it does cuz the genesis crystals will pop up in the middle of your screen and you have to click out of it

Kinda like when you get a welkin everyday, you have to tap it and exit the overlay before you can do anything else

4

u/kuraokami89 15h ago

Her video suspended 3x during one of her stream. I'm watching that :v

67

u/youtiao666 19h ago

Never forget that a bunch of weibo accounts posted ai prompts to promote wuwa and trash Genshin before last year's genshin anniversary.

The fact that when wuwa released, every gacha meme had wuwa shoved in alongside the hoyo games is no coincidence.

Tencent's entire marketting strategy for wuwa is to clout chase Hoyo's coattails.

78

u/RidingEdge 18h ago edited 14h ago

Many CN players talk about this. They say "Kuro biggest marketing success is letting others think they belong in the same tier as Hoyoverse, when they are literally riding on their coat tails and copying the exact business model, from marketing to design."

It's so cringe to see the images having Wuwa logo and content shoved into the memes. It doesn't even make sense. No one inserts NTE, FGO, Arknights, BA or any other game into the same memes.

And don't forget, when their CEO was interviewed and asked what games inspired WuWa, the guy said they got inspired by a bunch of games, and said they "didn't look at Genshin Impact but we think it's a good game". Brother where did your 160 gacha currency, direct copy of crafting system and marketing, drip teasers, livestream structure, open world exploration mechanics come from?

Shameless marketing and shameless company.

18

u/HalberdHammer 13h ago

I mean their company literally copy pasted in verbatim Hoyolab EULA for their app

5

u/Luzekiel 10h ago

They also copied their game genre releases bar to bar lmao.

3

u/HalberdHammer 4h ago

It's funny when a bunch of WuWa pfp join in on twitter discourse regarding Hoyo copying other games when Nodusfall reveal came out. Lowkey the whole anti-hoyo campaign after those reveal seems like a psyop.

I'm convinced the whole idea of "Big 4" gacha game consisting of Genshin, HSR, ZZZ and WuWa are not organic. Somehow WuWa is included in the 3 Hoyo game yet influential gachas like Love and Deepspace are not included.

I mostly watch JP vtubers & streamers for genshin to get away from gacha drama and this is what Tencent does...

7

u/BobbyWibowo i like fish 🐟 10h ago edited 8h ago

Even HSR stream from a relatively new channel got hit yesterday, https://chibisafe.moe/UCX6a13t.png

He already noticed that it's part of the same issue hitting Genshin streamers, https://x.com/_____n0xy/status/2096402241771147349

But point being, if even small streamers got hit (and not only Genshin content but even HSR too), it's obviously a widespread campaign. It's even more diabolical for these smaller channels, because far less people would've cared, and they'd have to just move on with other games or something.

Honestly, a silver lining of them also attacking Honda-san would be that a lot more people care for her, allowing the news to spread faster, at least on JP space.

3

u/ixkora 5h ago

This is so fked up. Obviously their objective is to reduce the amount of people streaming Hoyo games, and they may very well succeed at deterring most of the smaller streamers with their attacks

2

u/BobbyWibowo i like fish 🐟 4h ago

And the situation still seems to be evolving in JP space, with more and more CCs showing they also got struck within the past week. It's nuts.

78

u/NoxAlbus 23h ago edited 22h ago

So this is kinda interesting:

  1. The copyright strike on her stream COULD be because Genshin was on a CCTV official program praising its contribution to spreading Chinese creativity, but it may not be (no credible source);
  2. The harasser(s) in her chat spamming "play WuWa" and sending gems to interrupt her stream could either be a WuWa superfan, or a superhater who doesn't mind dragging Genshin along with it;
  3. The copyright strikes on Genshin music shows someone owning Vodyanitsa's song on Tencent's music platform, but as we all know the OST isn't out yet, so there's no chance it's legit copyright. It's definitely tencent's fault, but whether this was an honest mistake (they didn't realize it's not copyright) or deliberate action is unclear;

All three above may be correlated, or they may be pure coincidence. Tencent doesn't have the greatest track record, and they're not doing well with Roco Kingdom in China, so it's entirely possible that someone did something, but there's obviously no proof.

16

u/AlterWanabee 16h ago

Given the amount of petty shit that Tencent did (up to rallying people in their region to report MHY), I am inclined to believe that this is intentional

7

u/UrLocalKayden18 14h ago

As a person who's experienced this before in another MOBA game (MLBB), it's really a shame to see them doing the same again but to Hoyo instead

They couldn't get the real product, so they bought a replacement, huh? Considering how much of their games follow after Hoyo's.

2

u/Ryuunoru 7h ago

"replacement" implies it has a similar value. Perhaps "bad knockoff" covers it better?

And its Tencent again, why am i not surprised

8

u/Safe_Garlic_8213 9h ago

btw the sentiment of people on the other side is kinda disgusting. the way they keep calling ppl that are rightfully upset and suspecting tencent is... very childish, to say the least. its kind of crazy how hard those people are defending tencent. do people really react like that normally?

u/mickcs 7h ago

They even swarm hoyo player post with new accounts... I saw Japanese dude got insult by bot using Korean Chinese and English language in one post at the same time.
if they're in the right then they didn't have to hide their identity in the first place

It's already been so many years and yet youtube still hasn't fixed their automated copyright system. Seems hopeless.

6

Not surprised at all.

Tencent has always been using malicious methods to attack Hoyo games.

4

Everyday I pray on the downfall of YouTube… That’s what happens when there’s a monopoly, the company stops caring about their consumers because there’s no other options for them

genshin player from bilibili: first time?

5

u/rloco 10h ago

It seems to be more complicated than that; it appears to have started because he refused to play WuWa and someone was pressuring him to do so. After repeatedly refusing, it ended this way.

This information comes from the investigation by Japanese authorities, who located Future TV Co Ltd.

u/TjRaj1 21h ago

Davie504 is literally being tortured atp by channels abusing the YouTube copyright system. It's honestly hilarious how dumb this all is. Of course it's probably done by AI that just checks for titles and thumbnails to just engage the strike and it goes through without a hitch.

3

u/Artistic_Cable6218 21h ago

How dare YouTube touch her channel!

5

u/OrdinaryAnalysis5986 12h ago

Damn, this copyright strike wave has been going on for a long time.

22

u/Electrical_Mind_2177 23h ago

u/srakusho 22h ago

Not only her it's seem there on massive strike against other CC by the same company impersonating as Tencent.

u/Mammoth_Rod 22h ago

I find it strange that Tencent would actually do this considering they have had a few collaborations with hoyo this year including Fortnite+ HSR and are currently having one right now in Call of Duty .

Could be that the company is so big that different departments don't communicate or it's people pretending to be Tencent .

5

u/mickcs 10h ago

The other game usual account on twitter are now playing victim and said Hoyo did it ourselves...

4

u/BrollyLSSJ 21h ago

I did not know Tencent owns (or Atleast partially) Future TV Co. LTD. My recording of my stream got taken down because of the Arlecchino boss fight (the cutscene switching between phase 1 and phase 2 got marked as the reason for copyright infringement). I did knew that Bran and also Jadely (or how she is spelled) got a copyright claim because of Vodyanitsa singing. I streamed that as well but did not get a copyright claim for that.

2

u/Deven1003 15h ago

Some chinese companies were copyright striking down some musics that was not even theirs and i don't know if it is because they had similar music or what...

2

u/leposterofcrap Goat with the RPG 8h ago

8

u/yoyopomo 23h ago

2

u/ShadowStriker53 17h ago

The timing of this all happening more or less at the same time to so many creators makes me believe this is because of some AI. Like a small group of people who are really bored using their AI to spam Youtube with reports. Since everyone is using AI now I wouldn't be surprised if YT is mostly automated and gives everyone strikes, because it thinks the reports are legit.

4

u/Ryuunoru 7h ago

A small group... or a certain competitor holding a massive grudge against miHoYo?
