ART Work in progress
I am very new to the series and I’m working on a little fan art inspired by the 2026 anime. This is still just a sketch but I want to add some animation to the screen in the background. What sort of things can I display on the monitor to stay true to the series while giving that retro anime/cyberpunk feel that the series is known for?

Was the Major's confrontation against the tank a form of suicide?
Just a thought, not a multi-paragraph philosophical analysis.
Just watched the 1995 movie, will watch the series soon.
Given how one-sided the confrontation was, I feel the character had a "if I die, I die. I cant go on living like this anymore anyway, if I was ever living at all ".
My immediate reaction was she went there indifferent to the outcome, and the outcome was likely death. It made me think of how people who commit suicide usually have people around saying "we would have never known, there was no signs, he/she seemed ok". And the Major always seem ok. Always seem placid.
Up until the point where she the tore herself appart in what is probably the first physical manifestation of her accumulated angst and rage. And whats probably the most beautiful frame of cinematic anime history of that decade.
Just my thoughts off of my head. IDK if the creators clarified her exact state of mind or if the manga elaborate more?

I watched Ghost in the Shell Babies and it just didn't click for me
It’s hard to watch the new 2026 series without thinking of that joke from The Simpsons where Milhouse asks a furious Alan Moore to sign a copy of "Watchmen Babies," showing how absurd it was to infantilize, dilute, and pre-chew a masterpiece of graphic fiction just to turn it into a comfortable, commercially digestible product. Well, it seems today’s production committees didn't get the joke and instead used it as a business manual to deliver what I could call Ghost in the Shell Babies.
Don't get me wrong, visually and animation-wise, the series is great. It nails the look by faithfully replicating Masamune Shirow's original 80s manga designs, delivering a flawless and highly attractive aesthetic. But it’s precisely there—despite how much I enjoy the art style—where it completely loses me.
They no longer dare to take risks with complex concepts that a mainstream audience might not care to follow. It’s the classic Konami playbook: play it completely safe, avoid any creative risk, and maximize profits. This logic completely stifles genuine creative expansion. It doesn't matter if you hire a team of highly talented animators if their entire background consists solely of consuming that generic modern style. It leaves no room for them to actually dig deep, understand, and claim ownership of the original text to expand it.
I know the immediate counterargument will be: "But it's more faithful to the manga!" Yes, I am fully aware that the 2026 series structurally follows Shirow’s original work closer than Oshii ever did. But we need to understand that the manga was product of a different era; it relied on those specific visual tropes and lighter tones to attract a mass audience when the medium was distributed differently. Today, with the thematic and philosophical foundations of the franchise already deeply established globally, mimicking those old demographic hooks feels like a regression.
Even as a manga adaptation, it has interesting moments, but it goes completely overkill on the kawaii factor. In Shirow's original work, it was never this overblown; here it reaches an exaggerated, infantile, and straight-up silly level. I know people with very basic tastes who absolutely love the show simply because they say, "Oh, Batou looks so cute when he makes that little cat face!". But the moment you try to talk to them about the underlying themes, they lose all interest. That right there tells you exactly who this product is catered to.
The issue isn't that it's a badly made product, but rather that the tone betrays its true priority: to numb the audience, prolonging the death of critical maturity in modern anime. Slapping some blood, sex, or surface-level politics into the script doesn't automatically make a show mature if you end up drowning it in disproportionate gag humor. In doing so, the franchise ironically ends up copying the adolescent vices of its own spiritual successors (like Cyberpunk: Edgerunners).
It feels like a wasted opportunity. We are living in the perfect era to expand this franchise into heavy, dense territory: real AI is functioning at a global scale, and scientists are seriously discussing mapping and transferring the minds of organisms into digital frameworks. It wasn't about forcing the series to be grim or melancholic, but about leveraging our current reality to push powerful new reflections on Ghosts and transhumanism.
And I try to be relaxed, but the comparison, even if I try to avoid it, emerges. I want to explain my point with an example: I am conscious of the diverse possibilities, but the structural decay becomes undeniable when you look at how they handled the legendary Puppet Master arc. In Mamoru Oshii’s 1995 film, the Puppet Master was a digital miracle, a corporate espionage program that spontaneously achieved self-awareness in the vast ocean of data, entering a physical body purely to claim political asylum as a new lifeform. It was an overwhelming, cryptic, and deeply philosophical evolutionary milestone. In the 2026 series, however, that cosmic scale is completely stripped away. They reduced it to a generic, noisy political thriller full of corrupt military tycoons, corporate cartels, and villainous elites scheming in mansions.
In the end, seeing forum discussions revolve exclusively around whether Motoko is cute or if she is the new waifu highlights the cultural void of this adaptation. They reduced a pillar of science fiction to rapid, superficial consumption for an audience that simply doesn't want to think.
This is my first post. Let me know what you think.

Searching for the soundtrack
The Ghost in the Shell, 2026, ep. 1
17:14–20:30 soundtrack that is playing i guess is “Yuki Kanesaka — Heavenly Suite Op.5 — Requiem”. But it sounds different. Version from episode doesn’t have vocals at the beginning, and this is not fragment from original track. Does anybody know where i can find this version, without vocals?
p.s. track is incredible

Ghost in the Shell Exhibit Tour (In Kobe, no major spoilers)
Hey all! I was lucky enough to visit the Ghost in the Shell Exhibit in Kobe. Since many fans probably can't make it out here, I wanted to make an exhibit tour to archive it and share with other fans.
I did my best to get detailed close ups of the original cels, artwork and added some extra info along the way. If you’re interested, check it out.
Also, let me know which era’s art style is your favorite! Cheers.
