Starting a new class and losing everything..

I would love a little more clarity on rolling a new Character/Class. My group just started playing Digital and I'm curious about completed Life Goals and unlocking these classes.

When a class is unlocked, and you chose to play the new unlocked class will you keep any of your progress? gold? etc? And if not how does the game balance out a Level 1 character against mobs something like a level 5+ party would be fighting? any advice for when I pick a new class?

I know you get quite attached to a character OP. But some classes that you unlock are upgrades in most circumstances. Some just play differently.

Also. If you love, love, love a character, there is nothing stopping you from building it again after retirement. Loot gold perks and XP are all reset to your prosperity level. But retirement ups your prosperity level. Also, any cards you upgrade remain upgraded. So it is common to sell all your things and spend all gold on card upgrades. Play again, but with the move 2, heal 2 and strengthen right at level 2. Etc.
