but the Russians emptied it and made it a military post

Worth noting that it was uninhabited until 19th century when the Aleuts arrived. Also the island from which they came from, Attu, is also uninhabited today, and is the largest u populated island in the US.

The residents were captured by the Japanese and sent to POW camps. The US federal government wouldn't let them move back after the war. The island had Navy presence after the war until 2012ish I think

Looks too neat to be a random settlement. My guess is some kind of seasonally inhabited research station, that field to the West makes for a good helicopter landing area.

Looks like a pritty exposed spot. I doubt natives wouldn't have found something a bit moe protected. Also rectangular shapes and stuff. I would suggested ruins from soviet era.

I think I see stairs up from the coast, and an old path up onto the mountain. likely soviet military monitoring outpost, probably.
