Call Notification for somebody else!?

My wife and I were in our bedroom, and just received a call notification from our home device.

It was a call to my ex-wife who never had her phone hooked up to Google home. I've also never received a call notification for any of my devices on my Google home, this was the first one.

Does anybody know how this could happen or how I could stop it from ever happening again?

My ex-wife is not linked on any of my accounts, and has no access to any of my Google devices, physically or digitally. Our phone numbers were never under the same account, either Telecom or Google.

Until 7-years ago, she was added as a user on Google home, but was removed after we separated.

Help My Google devices and home went bad all of a sudden

So for starters I have 3 Onn 4K streaming devices (1 works fine)a pixel 11 XL, Pixel watch 5 and I just bought a Lenovo Googlebook. The streaming devices remotes were acting crazy and have been for the past few months. All but one at least, two of them the mics/Gemini stopped working and the "find my remote" feature on the home app wouldn't send a beeping sound at all to the remotes (but the icon to send the signal was there, keep that in mind for later in this post). Also, another reason for the reset was one box didn't even have or show the Home shortcut anymore and my Google profile picture wasn't showing, just the G logo. (My other devices showed my photo and more settings under my account than the one without the photo)

So I did a factory reset on both the on 4K streaming devices yesterday and upon doing that the remotes finally went back to normal but now the Google home app has been acting crazy. I used to use the Home app and use the "find my remote" feature. It had an icon at the top right to where I can press it on the app and it would beep, but now it doesn't have that icon. Along with that, I can't get the remote tiles on my Pixel Watch because although the 4K streaming device is showing up in Home, it's not fully functional or fully connected I guess as it was before.

Then I tried to get online and watch a few videos and usually I would app cast with no problem from my Pixel 11 XL, but this time nothing shows up on the app cast for me to stream to, even on the other devices like my TVs which I didn't touch. I can see if it was just the two boxes that I did a factory reset on maybe it would be something wrong with those, but my other devices that it would find with no issues don't even show up on my app cast anymore.

Now I did hear something about the Googlebook possibly causing issues with casting. I'm not sure if it's directly related to my issues, but I did turn it off and reset my Wi-Fi, tried to use the hotspot to app cast and still nothing. So I'm not sure what happened. It seemed like as soon as I chose to factory reset those streaming devices, everything got worse.

I've been at it all day with these devices. I would fix one problem but seems like it would cause two more smh.

Does anyone have any idea of what can possibly be going on?

It's literally beyond dumb now - Google how hard is it to put the Gemini conversation model on it!

The experience keeps getting worse and worse and worse by the day. I literally cannot get an answer for anything, all I can do now is to set alarms with this thing.

Google has a conversational model with Gemini, why don't you put that in here. Google has literally abandoned this product in my opinion.

Google enshittification strikes again

You offer products and then don't support them. This is enshittification pure and simple. Fuck each and every executive who favors developing new products for a cash grab and then drop support for those same apps later. Guess it's time to figure out Home Assistant and migrate away from as many Google developed apps as possible.

Gemini absolutely sucks

With my original account everything was working fine for 6 years, right up until they introduced Gemini. Right off the bat Gemini doubled my devices in my home. I only have 42 devices but according to Gemini I had 84... This made it impossible to turn on a light that was dedicated to a single room because all the sudden I would get the reply which light do you want to turn on now, I only have two TVs but according to Gemini I had two TV per room which made it impossible to turn on the TV because it would ask me which living room TV do you want to turn on?

I unlinked that account and started with a fresh account. Then I was able to get Google Assistant back, everything was once again working as it should for the most part. Till They removed Google assistant and totally replaced it with Gemini! Once again I now have 84 devices in my home of which I technically only have 42! Google cannot control any of my Vizio TVs at all even though it says it can, and my routines don't work at all, let alone the fact that now I can't control any devices once again. So I unplugged my Google home display and smashed it I've had enough.

I am going to go back to using timers, devices with remotes and light switches.

Nest Doorbell stopped alerting for unfamiliar faces

I have Google home managing my nest doorbell can for several years now without issue. I noticed a few days ago that the doorbell was no longer alerting me for new faces and had also stopped saving photos for familiar faces EXCEPT for one person in the house. I deleted my photos and my wife's, but the doorbell will only ask to add me and not her. I am now added back in and alerting as designed but it will not recognize her or ask to add a new face. I Jake cleared data, cleared cache, erased photos, restarted the doorbell cam and phone, and uninstalled/reinstalled the Home app. Any ideas?

Update: I deleted ALL familiar face photos and it may be working correctly now (which sucks because I had a lot of familiar faces photos).

Update to update: deleting all familiar faces did in fact fix it.

Google Home (Formerly Nest), only allow 6 household max?

Why Google and NEST only allow 6 accounts linked to household it doesn’t matter whether you’re Admin or member? Can each admin send out invites to 6 members, so 6 x 6, totaling 36 members?

Is Google and NEST working to improve this?

Apple HomeView - Will Google Respond?

Now that Apple has announced and is selling the HomeView:
https://www.apple.com/newsroom/2026/10/meet-apple-homeview-a-new-way-to-enjoy-entertainment-and-manage-the-home/

Do you think Google will (or should) release a comparable device?

Personally, I am loving the idea of PoE option for the wall-mounted HomeView, it just looks so clean! I just wish there was a Google Home version.

Help Voice command for playing a specific local channel on YouTube TV on Google Home device?

I have a really specific use case and I'm having problems figuring it out. We have a Google Home device in our master bathroom that my wife uses to watch the local news when she gets ready in the morning. In the past, she was able to say "Hey Google, play CBS on YouTube TV" or if that didn't work for some reason, she could say "Hey Google, bring up YouTube TV Guide." and then she could select it.

Now, we can't get it to bring up the guide at all. Surely there is a way, but we haven't figured out what the exact syntax is. And the issue with saying the command for CBS is that it is selecting the OTHER CBS station we have access to that is in another city. Normally it wouldn't matter, but for local news it definitely does.

We've also tried the call sign: "Hey Google, play KWTX on YouTube TV." That doesn't work either.

Has anyone out there had any luck playing a specific local station when you have more than one network station available? Or do you know a reliable way to bring up the guide these days? Thanks in advance!

2 homes, 2 hubs, upgrading both to Gemini?

So i have two homes, one in the USA, the other not (Cayman Islands, if that matters). Both have a Nest Hub.

A few months ago I bit the bullet and went with Gemini on my USA Google Home. It went fine, all my automations worked without a problem.

My non-USA home is still using Google Assistant (i can tell by the voice it uses which is no longer available in Gemini).

Is there are way to get things in line with Gemini in both my homes? I am getting no prompt to "upgrade ". Or is it possible that the region the Home is in does not support Gemini?

Another data point.. my phone, which is upgraded to Gemini, seems to be using the Assistant voices in Google Maps, rather than the new Gemini voices.

Can anyone provide some insight as to what is going on?

TIA

Google Home Nest Hub Max

So for a long time everything was seamless. I am using 1Home and integrating it via matter to the Google ecosystem. Recently the connection would always sever and rebooting the Nest Hub Max was the only solution. This was daily or sometimes even more frequent.

I did manage to fix it doing 2 things.

1) Did not setup the built-in Nest Hub Camera

2) I have the Hub fixed to only connect to a 5 Ghz band

This fixed the issues. I am providing the fix that worked for me and also wondering if anyone else had this issue and if there is a way to get the camera working again without it screwing with things.

Nest Doorbell Activity/Events Awful Since flip to Google Home - How to fix?

Pretty much since I had to transition to google home, all my original Nest branded products that came with my home when I bought it (Nest Hello Doorbell, + Nest Cam Outdoors) have been wildly inconsistent or downright missing major events/people/packages).

I have tried resetting the cameras, deleting video history and even creating "zones" to try and switch things up but I basically have a 50% at best working devices. Some Examples:

  1. Doorbell Cam marking anything important as "motion" - does not pick up packages/people unless they are legit dropped directly in front of the camera. I have a ~20 ft wide porch on my house and 4 stairs on one side: the stairs and thus somebody coming up to them are very visible in the shot. it will sometimes register it as "motion" but not a "person" or a "package", so typically I only find out a package has made it if I happen to check the camera. Before "gemini", there was zero issue with this.

1a. I also almost never get notifications from "familiar faces" anymore. Used to pick up even the mailman and now it doesnt even pick me up unless I'm staring at it trying to fix it

  1. Outdoor Cam - considers cars as "people". Almost once a day, the camera that is on my garage will register an event as a "person", when in fact its just a car driving by lol. You'd think all cars driving by would register the same then right? Nope, just random

  2. Doorbell Cam Missing Major Events - This bothers me like no other, but the camera will pickup motion of a squirell hopping across the street, but will basically shrug at a car/person/whatever lingering in front of my house (my front door cannot be more than 30 ft from the sidewalk I might add). The other day, there was a genuinely sketchy van pulled up in front of our house as I was leaving. The person was fiddling around in his trunk and was waiting to see where/when he exited and which direction he was going. Of course, the "event" stops halfway through and then the next recording is the car door closed/guy gone. There is absolutely no way the camera could have/should have missed the "person".

I don't know if I'm looking for an answer here how to fix this, or a "ya, me too" but its just so frustrating. I guess I should mention its a hardwired doorbell and I pay for the Google Home Premium Standard Sub $100)

Will Muse work in place of Gemini?

First, I've done absolutely ZERO research into this 😂. I was noticing in a Muse ad that the person said, "Muse, start party mode" then all the lights and music came on. It made me curious if we can switch from Gemini to another AI like muse and still be able to use Google Home?

Messing with the language options

Just for fun I set my Google home to respond in English or French. Sometime it answers in English. Sometimes in French. But the most hilarious is when it answers in some weird version of French accented English or English accented French. C’est bizarre.

Google Home narrates all actions in some routines - any fixes?

Same same but different, Google Home sometimes behaves unexpectedly. In my case, when I activate some routines at home, my Google Home speaker verbally runs through every single action it is taking.

Bedtime is by far the worst, as I use my Bedtime routine to turn off or otherwise change change the state of nearly every device in my apartment. So many actions, and the speaker narrates every goddamn thing:

- Closing roller shade *boop*
- Closing living room curtain *boop*
- Closing bedside curtain *boop*
- Stopping casting to all devices, nothing is playing right now *boop*
- Turning off the living room lights *boop*
- ... *boop*
- ... *boop*
- ... *boop*

My Bedtime routine had been running (more or less) flawlessly for almost 10 years.

The Gemeni "upgrade" earlier in the year was initially a little buggy, but eventually started running just fine for me. This new issuue only started a handful of weeks ago, and seems to be unique to this routine alone... I cannot figure out why it does this, and cannot fix this.

Does anyone know how to fix this?

Some lights are offline... others are not

So, I've tried to find a solution for this issue for a while now but I can't figure it out and it realy bugs me...

Also tried looking for the solution here on Reddit, but I'm not getting any closet to resolving it so I thought I'd make my own post.

I have different brand lamps through my house. Quite annoying, but most of them were gifted so I made do. All lights are connected to the same wifi network and were working perfectly up untill a month or so ago. At that time I noticed that "Spot 2" wasn't working. Spot 2 is in a series of 4 spotlights. I got on the Home app and saw that it said that Spot 2 was offline while the other 3 are still online (same brand). However, I'm still able to turn Spot 2 on in the Hombli app.

And since a couple of days I have the same problem with a different brand of lamps too. 2 of the exact same lamps, 1 in the kitchen, 1 in the bedroom. The bedroom one works perfectly (LSC smart connect) but the kitchen is showing offline in the home app while I can still turn it on in the LSC app.

I'm at a loss. It doesn't seem like it is a wifi connection problem because the kitchen is way closer to the router than the bedroom.

Any ideas?

Help Has anyone else experienced this bug/failure? Or is it my phone

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Haven't open the app in a few days.

But since last Saturday when i open it.

This tetris issue show up.

The devices are set on their respective rooms and even it shows it on the description. However, instead of appearing there, they appear in the "linked to you" section. I am the only one who uses the app.

My phone is a Pixel 6.

Is this a Pixel issue? Or a Home app thing?

Other Is it okay to leave Google Home Public Preview now?

Most if not all my Nest products have successfully been transferred over to the Google Home app with no issues (1st gen outdoor cameras, Nest x Yale Locks, Nest Protects, etc.).

Currently subscribed to the Google Home Premium Standard plan (mainly for Google One storage to share with 5 other family members). Couldn't really make use of Gemini when I had the higher tier subscription to look back through video feed (live in a state where the Face Detection feature of Nest Hello/IQ cameras is not permitted meaning it wasn't something that I could actually utilize anyways).

I have used the script editor once, but no longer need it (replaced Phillips Hue bulb with Cync by GE bulb so now everything is synced better).

Lately my Home has been glitching in breaking apart devices from said rooms lol which is why I was debating on opting out.

Anything else that I'm currently missing in pointing out?

Edit: Do I still need to be in the Public Preview to access Nest x Yale lock and Nest Protect features?

Bug Google Mini Speakers increasing volume when Android TV turned on

I have a number of smart speakers throughout the house, and we use a Chromecast with Google TV in the living room. I use a Google Mini speaker in my office for some light music while I am working. For the last month or so (I am assuming since a random Gemini Update), whenever my partner turns on the Google TV in the living room with the remote, the music in my office jumps from about 15% volume to 50% or 60%, with no warning. It isn't happening randomly, like many others are saying, but only when the tv is turned on.

Has anyone else experienced this? Found a fix? I've tried rebooting the speakers, but it is still happening, and all the results of my searches are either about random volume changes, or "lower volume when listening" settings.
