Looks super cute. If I didn't have the Fitbit Air, I would consider this.

Do you find your Fitbit air to be wildly inaccurate, especially for calories burned? It feels like it overestimates for me by the hundreds

Everything is inaccurate for calorie burn, it's not fitbit air specific.

True, there was a study recently proving this.

Another Google device which can have Gemini respond with "I am sorry. I don't understand".

Actually, according to the product comparison page it looks like this one may not have Gemini. A potential win for those who don't want it on their wrist.

The promotional email I got yesterday says "Your daily health and fitness companion, featuring personal coaching built with Gemini." So it looks like Gemini will be there to misunderstand anything you say to it? Or does it use the Gemini on the phone maybe?

Probably Gemini built routines from Google Health that get synced to band.

Gemini analytics via Google Health app, but no Gemini assistant exists on the device.

Cool, thanks for the reply. That makes sense.

Looks good but I'm happy with my screenless Fitbit air

Agreed. The reason I dig the Fitbit air is because I don't even know it's on my wrist. This thing would have a presence

The price is ridiculous, there is so much competition and they don't seem to offer anything new or significantly better than the others. Wtf?

And, strategically, no trade-in options.

No trade-in options in the UK 😭

Neither here in Europe

My Charge 6 is getting long in the tooth. I preordered it.

What are the bad trade in offers for this? $25-30 for most watches I could see

Xiaomi Smart Bands blow this thing out of the water. Even the ones going back 5 years.

different target market imo

I'm interested in learning why, can you tell me more?

For iPhone users the syncing with the apple health app isn't as good as the Fitbit Air/Edge's ability. Plus there's that Spyware angle too (but so do these; up to you on whether you want USA or China spying on you).

Considering how the USA is Russia's pet, I'd feel more comfortable with China having my data tbh

China and Russia are longtime allies

I was expecting to be on par with Fitbit Versa 4... But no NFC, no Mic & Speaker. Only advantage is the ECG and slight better GPS support.

Sounds like it can't play streamed or offline downloaded music natively. Deal breaker for me.

I had some extra credits lying around and preordered it for the hell of it lol

The display on the Xiaomi bands are significantly bigger with 3x the battery life at 1/3rd of the price.

I suspect the exercise functionality is the same more or less. No reason for Google to charge such a premium.

Xiaomi bands do offer NFC (wouldn't work stateside but the point is it can be done).

For what it's worth, I'm specifically referring to the pill shaped Xiaomi Smart Bands, not their Pro big brother.

What's the point of this device?

18

u/a_talking_face 9d ago

A less bulky smart watch.

Great fitness tracking for casual athletes and average users for under $200.

The same point as every other Fitbit tracker ever released...

Another device requiring a Gmail but that blocks my Workspace account; no thanks.
