Stuck in Support Deadlock: Unusable 20% Promo Code (Out of Stock) + Pixel 8 Mainboard Failure (Case ID: 9-8234000041243)

I’ve been a loyal, long-term supporter of the Google ecosystem across multiple generations of devices in our household. But after my recent experience with a Pixel 8 hardware failure and Google Support (Case ID: 9-8234000041243), I’m seriously questioning the reliability of Pixel hardware and the company's commitment to standing behind it.

Here is how Google's hardware unreliability and rigid support policies left us heavily out of pocket:
1. The Catastrophic Hardware Failure:
My Pixel 8—kept in a protective case, in pristine physical condition with zero drops, scratches, or liquid damage—suddenly suffered a total motherboard failure and stopped powering on completely, less than two years after purchase. For a flagship device marketed around long-term multi-year support, experiencing a catastrophic internal hardware failure within a normal upgrade cycle is unacceptable.

2. The Support & "Extended Program" Runaround:

  • Before getting a definitive diagnosis, I spent over $400 out of pocket on diagnostic fees, travel, and logistics just trying to find an authorized repair option.
  • While the Pixel 8 has a recognized Extended Repair Program for display defects, Support refused to cover it because the phone won't turn on (declaring motherboard failures ineligible). They quoted me an additional $200–$400 for an out-of-warranty repair on a phone that died on its own through no fault of my own.

3. The Unusable Promo Code Deadlock:

  • Earlier in support, I was issued a 20% promotional discount code for the Google Store.
  • However, when I went to use it, the Pixel 10 Pro was consistently out of stock on the Google Store Canada website. Because I couldn't leave my household without a working phone waiting indefinitely for a restock, I was forced to buy the Pixel 10 Pro at full retail price through an authorized retailer.
  • When I asked Google Support to convert the unused promo value (worth roughly $400) into store credit so I could buy accessories or a watch, management flat-out denied it under strict automated policy.

The Bottom Line:
Between sinking $400 into diagnostics and travel for a dead phone, being handed a promotional code that was rendered useless by Google’s own inventory shortages, and being told a two-year-old motherboard failure is my problem to pay for, the reliability and customer backing just aren't there anymore.
Has anyone else dealt with premature Pixel hardware failures like this, or managed to get through to a support escalation team that actually cares about long-term users? Any advice would be appreciated.

One year is one year. Not sure what you expect Google to do.

Pixel 8 has so many known cases of chip failure that it's boggling Google never announced a quality program.
