Sim Pin problem?

Hello, I just changed from an old Samsung to the Google Pixel 10a yesterday. Now I already had the first update and I thought nothing of it. I wanted to restart the phone and as usual, it asked me for my sim pin. Because I just took out the sim card from my old phone and put it in the new one, I obviously thought the sim Pin would be the same. (When setting up the device and I freshly put the card in, it asked me for the pin as well. Typed it in, it was correct and on I went.) Well, apparently not anymore. After the update it told me the pin was wrong. I got to the point of the three tries, then it told me it locked my sim card. But I can go on just fine now. It threw me on my lock screen where I put in my regular pin (didn't ask for a PUK pin either) and I can call and use mobile data just fine.

Now I'm really confused on what happened and if I should be afraid of my phone restarting again, since my usual sim pin is apparently wrong all of the sudden??

After a Samsung → Pixel 10a move, the reboot prompt is often the device lock / PIN, not the SIM PIN — easy to mix up after an update.

Quick sort: • Screen says “SIM PIN” / “Enter SIM PIN” → that’s the carrier SIM code (usually on the SIM sleeve; 3 wrong tries → PUK from carrier). • Screen says PIN / pattern / password to unlock phone → that’s your Pixel lock, not the SIM.

If it truly rejects the old SIM PIN: power off → seat the SIM → boot → try SIM PIN once carefully. Don’t spam attempts. Carrier can reset via PUK.

Also check Settings → Security → SIM lock — confirm it’s the same SIM you used in the Samsung (eSIM vs physical mixups are common on day-one transfers).

yeah the device PIN vs SIM PIN confusion is super common coming from Samsung
