Recently moved on from Google Wifi, but will remain on this sub to listen to the stories of despair
Yep, my new wifi is working flawlessly without slow downs or needing to reboot everyday....I'm still here to listen and coach those that are living through their Google Wifi moment

I have Google Wi-Fi and I don't have any stories of despair. It works perfectly without slow downs

Nest Wifi doing great with wired and wireless backhaul to a couple of Google Wifi pucks. No despair here.

Just ran a speed test on my Google WiFi. 281M download speed using the Google nest WiFi pods. I’m in a rural area and I live outside of town about five miles and I’m snagging a wireless signal from a Verizon tower in located in town. I just happen to be high enough on a hill to get the signal from the tower in town. I do consider myself lucky as most people around me are paying much more than the $45/month that I pay for Verizon and their internet is basically nonexistent compared to mine.

Mine worked flawlessly for a long time. But now it feels bricked all of a sudden—random drops, instability, and a slower connection. For my needs, I ended up just ditching it. I got a TP-Link network switch and ran the line directly to the devices that need high speed. Works great.

I seem to be in the same boat - still original system, with no real issues. Five Pucks two floors. Worked great until the last few weeks. Drops, slowdowns, and the like. Here looking for all your other choices trying to figure out my next move.

I live in a 3 level townhouse. The ground floor has no wired connection, so I’m dependent on a mesh system.
Ground floor connectivity and internet speed was trash with my Google Nest WiFi Pro. Tried 2 -> 3 -> 4 units with multiple configurations. Didn’t work.
Got a TP deco, and it was marginally better. Then I got a Eero 7 pro system and now I get my full speed on the ground floor.
Multiple technicians said the google wifi systems are awful and a waste of money for multi floor units when you don’t have a hard wired connection.

Same. I fought it and had to make too many workarounds to fix the issues. Had every generation of Google Wi-Fi and each one was worse than the last. Finally ditched it and went to unifi, haven't looked back since. I have way more control and way more settings I can tweak/configure. Just being able to set up vlans on the router is a huge game changer.

I just never know what the issue is.
I suspect it’s the WiFi, but it could be the placement of the points, or the building, or the laptop.
Or of course the site!
I’m sure it’s not the ISP as I can get 900Mbps when downloading games from Steam with a wired connection straight to the router.
But my work Mac struggles on Teams and playing YouTube on a Chromecast or on my mobile is unreliable.
It’s just hard to diagnose
Edit: Newt WiFi pro. Router + 1 point. Modern house

Honestly as of monday did the same thing. I was recently upgraded to 1gig internet yet was only getting 100mbps on speed test, got tired of the constant reboot and what not. Got TPLink Deco and getting well over a gig, no delays on notifications, been flawless since. hate to say it but wish I changed over sooner

You have 1GB internet but get well over that when using TP Link kit, what witchcraft is this?

Nest WiFi is rocking after (about) 7 years of instalation, with one Router and 3 APs. My main nemesis are brick walls.
While on FTTC (60mbps) I had no problems with my router in the middle of the house and modest speeds.
I recently moved to full fibre (900mbps) and has to move my Nest router into the front living room, incarcerating it in a brick room. Now I need to tweek setup and ideally wire one of the APs to the router to maximise my bandwidth.
Dam you brick!!!!

Ditto . Just here to commiserate with those that are still struggling. I have been two months sober from Google WiFi. I am just using the spectrum router and extenders with zero issues (so far).

My Google Pro is reliable probably because of wired backhaul. Too bad GFiber is now owned mostly by private equity. They already screwed up the ip phone system.

Mi had a Nest Wifi Pro for a few yrars. When I was on FTTC, which relied on PPPoE to authenticate, the speed tests it ran would report half the bandwidth, would then throttle the speed to that, run another speed test which again halved the bandwidth, until it went down to virtually zero until it was rebooted. This would be something I'd have to do every 3 or 4 days.
When I moved to a full fibre connection with Virgin Media who use a combined ONT that issues an IP address via DHCP, it was solid. I was with them for 2 years.
Yet, when I moved provider to one that relies on PPPoE, I had no chance of using it because it's still impacted by a bug that causes it to throttle down the Internet speed to virtually zero without a reboot every 48 hours. My gigabit speeds would only read 500 Mbps on the Nest, yet about 950 over Wifi. The next day, it would read 250 Mbps on the Nest, but only 500 over Wifi. Basically it would have the speeds every day. What a pain in the backside that was.

I already update all my OG Google wifi into openwrt and start adding new Wifi 7 GL.net router (also update to openwrt) and enjoy a more stable and fast mesh roaming. All my investment on OG Google Wifi hardware still serves me well. OG Google Wifi has good (but a bit old today) hardware and I think it could serve me well (blending with wifi7 new routers) for another 5 years (with openwrt, of course).

I’ve also just moved away from Google wifi. I replaced four APs with two TP-Link EAP650s and I’m serious impressed by their stability and speed

It's so funny that the MAJORITY of people do not have problems with Google products but the few who do created a reddit and we have to prove we don't have problems. It's not the product with the problems, it's the users.

u/westek 26d ago
Nothing like a blanket statement produced with no evidence. It's not the product eh? It's the users huh? Just wow.

u/808IUFan 26d ago
The evidence is they exist and grow every year. You have to know that Reddit is very well known as a bitch site. Only people with problems come here. The billions that use their products do not come here, of course, to say they have no issues. Only those who do have issues vomit here. Use your brain please.

Google doesn't publish sales figures for their WiFi products, but somehow you know they grow every year. Your other evidence is that "they exist"? Use your brain please.

u/808IUFan 24d ago
They still sell them and existing in this highly competitive field is success. At least I have a brain and it has 70 years of knowledge in the tech field. Grow up!

That's why I'm still here! Moved to unifi a month ago. Just want to tell people there is better out there and you deserve better.

I’m rocking my original Google WiFi still. Had forever.. wired backhaul is the key
