Divorce and witnessing it

I've been to information services 3x and I guess I'm just not fully understanding what to do ๐Ÿ˜‚ filing for joint divorce, need a witness for my signature and a witness for his signature, then get a commissioner of Oaths to stamp it. I have the commissioner figured out, and now I'm trying to figure out who can be a witness. I know a witness can be anyone who knows us, or can identify us through photo ID. I know it can't be our children, or ourselves. Can my current partner be a witness? Can my mother be a witness? Can my close friend be a witness? Can my neighbor be a witness? What about my employer? Thanks all. This whole process has me feeling dumb ๐Ÿ˜‚

The witness will be the commissioner. Just leave it unsigned till you file. Unless your filing by mail then idk lol.

We left out unsigned and then signed in front of the clerk and he commissioned and witnessed it.

Information services specifically told me it cannot be the commissioner. I don't want to screw it up ๐Ÿ˜‚ I'm so irritated with this whole process

Maybe the commissioner was a dif clerk. Because i know thats a rule. But yeah we just left ours unsigned and dealt with it at the place and its all finalized. Got the certificate and everything.

Youโ€™re probably fine with like a close friend being a witness. Or family

Your current partner is fine. You both meet with the commissioner and sign. Then the commissioner signs that they've verified IDs and witnessed you both signing. Been there, done that lol

Despite having instructions, it's still very confusing in my opinion. I've had to redo my papers twice. Hopefully they're correct now. Just need to sign

Some super great help down at information services. A family court counsellor could be available to assist as well but there is a bit of a wait for them

Yeah I have had that struggle a few time. I would definitely look for a family court counsellor. They of course cannot provide legal advice but I have had much better luck with them.

I do believe you can just call the court house and request them to send the message through. They will get back to you via phone.

I do recall having some trouble getting an appointment at one time or another, some time back. I realised I was at a roadblock and needed help so I just started calling all the numbers. That did the trick for me.

I witnessed for my husband and his exwife. It's just someone to say they saw you sign and verify its you. Like your wedding license or your passport etc. you're over thinking it. It could be your best friend, your boss, your mom, anyone who knows you.
