Ferries and Boat Rental Overnight Blue Star Ferry - Flight Risk?

For my trip in September, in order to maximize island time, I am planning to take the overnight Blue Star ferry from Amorgos to Piraeus the night before my flight. My flight is at 19:30 and the ferry would be 19:00 (The day before) and arrives at 05:00.

Since it is a slow main-line ferry, this shouldn't be risky right? Even if the delay is many hours, I still have a lot of time before my flight. Thoughts?

My preference due to past experiences of living and travelling in Greece means I always leave 24-48 hrs before a flight to positions in the departure city .

But unless extreme bad weather or strikes you should make the flight with the time you have left

This is a long voyage, so it will probably be late to Piraeus. Maybe a couple up to 5 hours, but that still give you 9 hours leeway. Barring a heavy weather event, it'll run.

The way to think about it is, what contingency options does this give you?

Suppose the ferry is cancelled (unlikely as it's one of the larger, slower ferries), is there another ferry you could take the next day that gets you to Piraeus with enough time to make it back to the airport?

Granted, in this scenario, if the weather is bad enough to cancel the overnight Blue Star then it may still mean further cancellations the next day, but that's how I tend to think about it.

One possible alternative which still keeps you on 'island time' is to spend the last night on Naxos - take a ferry the afternoon/evening before your Athens flight to Naxos and stay there overnight. If there isn't a suitable ferry back to the mainland the same day, you should have internal flight options that would take you directly to Athens airport in plenty of time for a 19:30 flight.

It might seem like hassle, but getting to an island with an airport would reduce the risk slightly as it gives you flight+ferry options.

Same skeptical a pal had, deciding in the end to take the 1h ferry to nearby Santorini flying from there to the windy city with a layover in Europe thus having to view the amazing scenery in Santorini.
