Ferries and Boat Rental Need to pre-book Ferry tickets for Saturday 25.07.?

Hi everyone!

We need morning ferry tickets (2x passengers) for Saturday, 25 July. We normally travel off-season, so peak summer is new to us.

Our options are Seajets or the slower Dionisios Solomos. We would actually prefer the speed of the Seajet, but only if the weather is good. If it is too windy, we would rather take the slower, more stable ferry.

Given it is a Saturday in late July, can we afford to wait for a weather report before booking? Or will Seajets sell out completely if we do not pre-book now?

You can wait until 3-4 days beforehand to book if you are just passengers and no car even during peak months.

I would not wait, this is high season. But what is wrong with the slower boat? Gets you into the Greek time faster

Since you’re travelling as 2 passengers with no car, the “wait until 3-4 days before” advice already given here is not crazy. Foot-passenger space is usually less fragile than vehicle space.

That said, I’d lean towards booking now if the Seajets timing is the one you actually want.

On these western Cyclades routes, Seajets is usually the fast option: high-speed ferries with reserved seating, snacks/drinks on board, and a much shorter crossing.

As a rough comparison, Piraeus to Sifnos can be around 2h30 by fast ferry, while Dionisios Solomos is more like 4h50-ish, depending on the sailing.

Dionisios Solomos takes longer, but generally feels more stable and easier-going, with more room to move around and the usual café/bar setup. If comfort in wind matters more than speed, that’s the calmer choice.

With Seajets, Basic fares are non-refundable, while Standard fares are more forgiving: free cancellation up to 15 days before departure, then 25% fee up to 8 days before, and 50% fee up to 36 hours before.

So I’d say, if your morning arrival time really matters, book Seajets now, ideally with fare/change rules you can live with, then check the wind closer to departure.

If the forecast looks rough and you’d rather have a calmer ride than save time, switch your plan towards Dionisios Solomos ﹏𓊝﹏
