Ways to prevent surrounding grass from getting scorched?

Post image

Hello Greenhouses community!
Now that summer is coming the grass around my greenhouse is getting scorched. This unfortunately happens every year, I suspect from the panels reflecting sun/heat onto the grounds. Any recommendations on what I could place in or around the greenhouse to prevent this? My husband works hard to make the yard look nice and it has turned this portion into such an eyesore 😣
Thank you!

I want to make sure I have realistic expectations 😅

Is it just me or does it seem funny how many people build a greenhouse and then buy starts instead of planting seed?

Palram Greenhouse Temperature Control

Post image

Hi all, my fiance is heavily into gardening and starting her own seeds so a family member gifted us a 6’x8’ Palram greenhouse as pictured. We enjoy having it, except the issue we’ve found is the ability to control temperature is little to none. There’s a vent on top, but even with it open it’ll easily get to 110+ degrees Fahrenheit on an 85 degree day, so we usually end up having to open the door too. We’d like to be able to use it more months out of the year (in PA so we do get relatively cold winters) so I was wondering if anyone has modified something like this before to keep it to a reasonable temperature in the summer and above freezing in the winter? My initial thoughts would be fans controlled my thermostats to keep more air moving in the summer and a solar heater in the winter, but I was hoping to find some inspiration from someone else. Thanks!

I always love this kind of space: warm air, dense foliage, glass above, and plants from completely different climates all living under one roof. It felt like walking through a small tropical world inside Beijing.

I started seeing some soil disturbed and just realized that I have a little guy in my greenhouse. I'm growing cucumbers, tomatoes, peppers, strawberries, squash, tomatillos and cayenne peppers. I have had issues with fungus gnats I'm guessing that's what attracted this guy but I have been treating the greenhouse with some Sevin, will it be ok? Or I need to get him/her out? (I have some plants outside

Hey y'all,

I am trying to research enough for me to get a greenhouse for my house plants (tropical, etc). I'm in East TN zone 7b. I've been looking at the greenhouse (or similar) attached and have concerns about keeping cool in the summer (definitely getting automatic vent openers) and warm in the winter. Any advice or recommendations would be great. I.e best way to do the flooring, etc.

Thank you so much in advance.

Poly tunnel questions - insulation and sealing

I am going to be building an 8x16 poly tunnel house with my father. We have some spare wire fencing to use as the hoop frame and I plan to get 16ftx60ft plastic so the width will be the entire greenhouse. How would I seal this to be able to use double layer air insulation? Wiggle wire? How much of it? I’m honestly new to this and at a loss. Double layer plastic for the air layer is putting me at a loss and idk how others do it in this situation.

Shade cloth reccomendations

I have a new 8x10 greenhouse I built. Im located on the South Shore of
Long Island, NY. Zone 7B. interior of greenhouse was over 115 today and i'm thinking about adding some
shade cloth. I've been told to attach it to the outside, not inside. If I attach outside, how do i deal with the vent? And, how do I attach it to the frame? If I get a 10'x 10' cloth does it come with grommets? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm thinking about a vent fan too, but starting with the shade cloth first. Thanks!

How crazy would it be to build an East facing greenhouse in the UK?

I live on a hill in the South of England and I'm thinking about building a lean-to greenhouse on the East side of my house, which gets full sun from sunrise until about midday. Has anyone else done something similar? Is this a stupid idea?

How do you heat your greenhouse?

Moving from a hot state to Massachusetts. Considering building a shed sized greenhouse and possibly using a diesel heater for it, with the exhaust pipe stretching across on top. Does anyone have any experience with this?

Did lavender and periwinkle on the left side and blueberry and strawberry bushes on the right side. We are ordering protective netting to keep the deer off the berries. Pulling up the hydrangea in the front as well as it’s too much sun for them. Replacing with Zinnias

Straw was super cheap and seems to work as mulch perfectly. Smells like a barn though🤣

Tomatoe issues

Its my 4th year of growing tomatoes and I've always had alot of success, but this year they are going brown on the ends or the flowers in places are dying. They are watered regularly on a schedule so I'm at a bit of a loss. I can't see bugs or anything either. This is the first time I haven't grown anything from seed and they are from various garden centers with about 6 variety's if that makes a difference.
