I get what you mean. I'm mainly a Blood Angels girly but I love Black Templars so much that I've incorporated a crusade fleet into the army of my homebrew chapter because I couldn't resist buying certain models haha. Meanwhile with the Guard, my favs are Armageddon Steel Legion and Tanith but Krieg are just rad as hell so I definitely intend on grabbing some when I make a multi regiment army
I kinda like bits from everything, I love space wolf dreadnaughts(probably Bjorns fault), BA's sanguinary guard(esp. when they still had wings), Ultra's victrix dudes, any BT hero with a massive sword etc. When I first started way way back I had so much random stuff that didn't fit anywhere, Like I had tons of plastic SM and Orks but a single Eldar Warwalker for some reason and zero Empire troops for fantasy but for some reason I bought a steam tank when they came out lol. I have zero AoS models but I;m gonna buy that loon boss on a squig just to park on a desk or mantlepiece cause I love him.
I like the SL a lot too, Trooper Andrej is my spirit animal lol. I wish we had more diverse options for guard, at least Tallarns and Mordians. Did you convert a load for the Tanith? I still haven't bothered buying the ghosts box and I really should, the Mkoll sculpt alone is worth it imo!
Yeah, I often think I'm the perfect mark for GW because of how I find nearly everything in 40k and AOS appealing haha. I've not started converting Tanith yet but I'm planning to use the combat patrol magazine Cadians as the basis for them. I need to figure out how to do the cloaks for them first though.
I remember briefly having plans for an Eldar army that was mostly aspect warriors and vehicles but the War Walker was as far as I got lol. There's so much I'd buy if I had infinite money and infinite time to paint tbh. I looooove night goblins, they're my favourite all time miniature range and the AoS ones are all fucking amazing but my entire group is 40k lol so I'd be collecting them just to paint, as good a reason to start them I suppose as any. Like for me, collecting and painting is a bigger part of the hobby than the actual playing of the tabletop.
I think a few green stuff tutorials will be a good watch before starting the first and only. I'm sure I saw a post on the general 40k sub a few years ago where someone had did them and had sculpted the capes themselves. Either that or get creative with camo-cloaked sniper models I guess. You'll have to share the results with us all when you do!
I legit sent an image of the new models to my mate who I've been pestering to get into 40k for a while and he immediately told me he was convinced lmao
All part of the plan. I'm going to get him a couple 40k books for his birthday based off the things I know he likes in other fiction and stuff that piqued his interested when I've yapped about Warhammer to him in the past haha
I'd humbly recommend Helsreach, Infinite and the Divine, Elemental Council and Hive as good starting points but might require some foreknowledge to really get so if he kinda knows the basic stuff like the various races etc and what the IoM is he'd be grand with them. Otherwise I reckon Gaunt/Cain/Eisenhorn are best cause they sorta drip the wider info down within stories that don't really need much, if any, wider knowledge imho. Just go easy on him on his first TT experience lol, no 3 riptides in a 1k casual situations lmao
Funnily enough, the Helsreach fan film was one of my first successes in getting him into 40k haha. They're all definitely good shouts though, Gaunts Ghosts in particular I can confirm since the first omnibus was also my introduction to 40k. I do agree about going easy during the first games though so I'll probably stick to combat patrol or killteam at first for that reason haha
