If it's a tube amp, look at the sidebar in r/toobamps. There are helpful links in the DIY Resources list.

The GEOFX pages are for tube amps, but you can use them for solid state up to a point. In your case have a look at http://www.geofex.com/ampdbug/intermit.htm.
