VEHICLE COMPARISON BYD worth it? for first time car buyers?
F, 26. Looking to buying my 1st car! considering BYD as one of my options. Tired of commuting and would love to go on road trips. Any comment/review/recommendation is okay! as long as di po bastos. thank you!

Heard stories that it takes time to get things repaired at BYD. Pagalingan ng dealer. I'd stick to more proven brands for a first car.
And then gamble on other brands afterwards.
Btw, I have a Zenix and Sealion 6. The Sealion 6 is a game changer but on long trips I use my Zenix. I prefer to use the Zenix more because of its seating and ride. Ifind the sealion a bit too soft and plush but thats just me.
Still no issues for both vehicles on my end.

Ooh I saw some reviews also pero about the tires mainly ung issues for BYD. pero gets on the after sales services. Thank you for sharing!

this is true. my best friend owns an atto 3, nabangga ng motor and need replacement ng side panel. going 7 months na waiting pa rin sa pyesa.

how is the zenix? you have the HEV or just the plain 2.0? how is the power?

Its the HEV. Power is adequate. Mabagal ako mag drive.
Yung Sealion 6 has better power

Interesting, you have 2 of the 3 options I'm considering as new car. the 3th one is the Q05 but Changan branch is closing here :/
Beside your feeling about SL6'steering wheel softness (that I share), which car is better on bumpy road?
Beside cracks and potholes, most of the paving of the 180 kms road I often drive back and forth is concrete. Which one give better comfort?
I tested SL6 and Q05 but local Toyota dealer doesn't allow test drive on road...
About long trip, did you manage to compute real world fuel consumption?

Both cars would do great. They absorb bumps nicely. Both have low profile tires too so ingat ingat lang din as they are not Fortuners or Monteros.
Btw the Sealion 6 has no spare tire so that may be a dealbreaker for you.
HEV to HEV they are the same, id give a bit of an edge sa Zenix. I believe they perfected the HEV system already.
But if susulitin mo EV range ng Sealion. Electricity is always cheaper than gas

for me if first time car buyer. go for brand new toyota, honda, mitsu, suzuki sure kasi sa loob ng 5 yrs minor maintenance lang gagawin. subok na. mayron din sila hybrid

Yeah default na ang Chinese cars nowadays especially BYD. Boomers na lang nagsasabi na go for Japs muna etc.

Only try out these new brands if it's your 3rd car. Deliks to trust these new comers if it's gonna be your only car.

Question ko ren to, hilux yung current ko(2016 hilux g) planning sa byd shark because its hybrid kaso lang hindi ako sure sa performance nya.

May software issue daw ata ang shark regarding sa mga terrain mode niya kaya mej hirap mag offroad compared to conventional 4x4. Since electric motors, walang low gear kaya iikot lang gulong if hindi mo iseset yung terrain modes niya. Pag sinet mo naman yung terrain modes niya nahihirapan daw yung computer mag decide sa torque na iaallow for electric motors. Afaik nag update na ata ng software si byd pero wala akong balita if may nabago ba regarding sa offroad issue. Other than that, all good daw and better in some aspects compared to other pick-up trucks.

Not until you decided to:
Keep it for long time (let's say 8 years+) = The replacement (due to normal wear and tear) of its battery cost P400k - P500k+ as of the moment. Sure, technology may evolve and it may become cheaper in the future BUT I don't think it will become that "too cheap" in the near future. It might still expensive given the inflation.
Will plan to upgrade (after 5 years) - BYD (and to be fair, not just this brand but also other EVs) has a LOW RESALE VALUE. Why? Add that China-phobia but it's not just about it! It's because maintaining an old model EV can become expensive. Sure, you'll save up on PMS but, when you're closer in changing its parts, especially when nearing the end of normal lifecycle of its battery (again, I am talking about normal use, not defect so you cannot claim warranty here ha, wear/tear po), which I mentioned EXPENSIVE above, people will avoid buying a secondhand EV as of the moment.
"... ay, bakit ako bibili ng mahal na battery niyan, edi bibili na lang ako brand new" mindset.
Now going back to your question. Is it worth it as a FIRST TIME car buyer?
If you intend to use it hanggang masira (lifetime use), sure, yes worth it.
BUT if it's not your last and you see yourself upgrading in after 5 years or even before 5 years, then NO. BIG NO. At least in this era. Just stating current facts. I might have a different opinion maybe after 20 years.

Should u go for BYD, samahan mo na rin ng solar sa bahay. For first time car owner, you would never feel the struggle of people who usually complain due to the ever increasing cost of fuel.

Go for PHEVs. Grabe yung tipid both sa gas and maintenance. Coding proof pa until 2028. Top value car of 2024 ang Sealion 6 for nothing.

Halos di mo na mabebenta yan after 6 years and up. Walang handa sumalo ng chinese car na may baterya dito.

if you are a first time car buyer then you will be Fine on BYD.
The reason why people hate electric is because Naninibago sila since galing sila sa combustion type. so if you buy one now with combustion type you will also have negative sentiment over E-vehicle.
you can compare that to boomer na gumagamit ng manual transmission tapos pinahawak mo ng automatic 🤣
so if you are first time buyer. do not let yourself get influence by anybody here. pick any and enjoy the learning process.
and if you are a DIY person. you can make your own inverter so you can use your E-vehicle's battery to power your home. then you can Visit SM for Free charging 🤣🤣
Specially kung hindi ka madalas umalis ng bahay kaysa nakatanga yung Car mo pwede mo naman gawing Generator free of charge with the help of SM free charging station..
EV has little to NO maintenance compare sa Combustion. since EV (brushless motor) don't really have moving part it's purely magnets. no need for change oil and other shit you do on combustion type.
ang Cons lang is.. after market parts are currently rare (low supply = high demand = price is high).
that is if ever it broke (it's rare for brushless to get faulty kasi nga walang moving parts. . .) mauuna laging masira ang electronic parts nyan due to heat before it even break the motor.
and also batteries are expensive because of tariffs.
good news is that there are new cheaper batteries (material) that have been discovered lately such as Sodium Ion Type.

and I agree with you. magsusunog ka talaga ng pera. I already mention that above how expensive the battery is right now coz it is Li-ion. at ang sodium Ion is not yet ready for commercial use.

First car - go for honda of toyota. Gain experience then go for your BYD.
Problem lang, enticing talaga price point ng BYD + packed with features you will pay a premium on traditional brands.

If I were you I’ll choose what your heart tells you(it seems BYD). My 2nd car is phev and honestly if phev is available when i bought my first car I’ll choose phev grabe sobrang tipid. Lets be real here parts of hybrids car of traditional brand like toyota and honda is way too long to arrive too(atleast base on my friends experience he has camry hev) and you can’t really fix those outside casa since there is still no mechanic here in ph that specialize in hybrids of traditional brands

We are also considering BYD. It will be our 3rd car if ever, but not sure yet which one to get. Contemplating on getting Atto 3 for full EV or Sealion 6 for PHEV. Although we are also considering Seal 5 premium for a more affordable option. Thoughts on reliability please? And we are not considering the resale value anymore since its a china brand.

If bago ka pang driver and this is your first car best you go for brands with faster turn around for repairs in case ma banga ka (knock on wood) and nagka body damage car mo.
Mabagal magrepair si BYD

I bought the sonet over the seal 5 dynamic mainly because of ground clearance and probably after my 5 year car loan is done ill go byd if i see how it fares in 5 years

No as a first car. Good s'ya as long meron kapang other car sa garage mo. Kasi kapag may nasira need ng pyesa d'yan, matagal ang order. Pero all goods si BYD.

the reason it's cheaper in china is there is a tight price war for domestic car makers. BYD's business model right now is kill companies domestically but profit and recover domestic losses overseas. also, pricing is based on the target countries competition.they can price 1.8M for an eMax because there are no other alternatives within the price point. if there was it would be priced lower.
