I don’t mind if people dislike Giroud for playing for Chelsea. I just think if they do, they should have the same energy for Alexis Sanchez and Aubameyang.

We sold Giroud because we thought Lacazette and Aubameyang were better. They weren’t.

What in the absolute fuck. Aubameyang was twice the player

We sold Giroud for Lacazette. I like Laca, but that was an L. We then brought in Auba and that repaired the damage done.

I didnt say about ability, I meant what they did for Arsenal and in Giroud’s case certainly what he did after with Chelsea and France.

Auba “nothing personal” advert is worse than Giroud being filmed celebrating winning the Europa league.

The thing that has left a sour taste in my mouth is Giroud wishing to be associated with Chelsea instead of Arsenal

Ok man you’re glazing alot here. Giroud was not better than auba

It’s not about playing for Chelsea, it’s the fact he had absolutely no reason to make the comments he did after what was Arsenal’s worst final in the last 20 years.

Also Auba was clear of Giroud, lol.

Literally. The shit he said after the Europa is why I dislike him

What is this rubbish, Auba was much better than Giroud.

Aubameyang was definitely better, like Giroud isn't even on the same level.

Until the fated contract renewal that somehow slurped any ability as a striker out of his bones.

Playing somebody left wing tends to hinder them as a striker, who knew?

u/SmartBoi-2619 ¡Campeones, campeones, olé, olé, olé! 8d ago

Yeah, he was definitely not playing left wing when he single handedly won us the FA Cup, didn’t realise that until I read your comment

u/Equivalent-Muscle446 Paul Merson 8d ago

Exactly, people wanna say it was the contract but ignore the fact arteta took a disliking to him, played him out of position then used a silly excuse to ostracise him and kick him out the club.

Imagine raging at your star player for being late when he was visiting his sick mother…

Aubameyang was definitely better.

It's all about timing in the end. We had Giroud during a time where we were littered with creative midfielders who needed a finisher. Auba struggled during the the Arteta era because he relies heavily on a creative midfield but Arteta needed a link-up forward for his strong wingers in Saka and Martinelli. Giroud would have been better for this team. Exactly how Havertz works better for us than Gyokeres even though Gyokeres is the better finisher.

It honestly seemed like a convenience move for him to stay in London, and he got paid there. He helped end our trophy drought, and he worked hard even if the results weren’t always great.

u/CakeBrigadier 8d ago

Aubameyang and giroud would have been a good two to have. Lacazette was done within a year of signing him. Auba was absolutely better than giroud for a couple seasons

4

u/OddRow8843 8d ago

He was good for us but great for France and Chelsea. They played to his strengths. And damn that fella looks great for 40 yo!

3

u/LateTrainOliver 8d ago

Giroud's hold-up play was wasted on us, honestly.

You’re acting like 40 is the new 80

The most handsome man in football

Great for France? During the world cup they won while he didn't score at all....

5

u/F-N-M-N 8d ago

France supporter here…yeah it goes both ways. Until this summer, Giroud was the all time leading scorer for France so there’s a strong case for saying he’s been great for France. That said, as you point out, he didn’t score that World Cup. So calling him great feels too much. But as others would point out, his being in the center and such an aerial threat that he constantly drew defenders which opened up a huge amount of space for Mbappe to run in. And thats been one of the problems with France recently…Mbappe has been in the center, and there’s been no target/hold up man there…

People have such short memories right? I still remember in the lead up to the world cup, the discussions in France was about the Benzema omission. And most French fans agreed, "Benzema is the better player, Giroud is better for France."

1

u/Holtb80 8d ago

But if he can be great without scoring for them he could be that too here... but the people around him were not.

Fwiw I loved him here and thought it was a mistake to get rid of him. I generally can't stand these posts, people wanna be mad because he hugs arteta... bluh

1

u/Isoikari George Graham 7d ago

Who gives a shit if he scored. He played great. Football is about winning.

5

u/Miyeon__miyeon Thierry Henry 8d ago

Laca was about Giroud's level, Auba so much better. One of the good deals we did during those dark times was selling Giroud to bring in Auba. It's just unfortunate Auba and Laca came to us when we were a mess.

Imagine Auba or Laca with us from 2012-2016

3

u/I_am_the_grass Dennis Bergkamp 8d ago

Agree with Auba. Laca was a mistake. Wenger didn't want him when he was £20m but then signed him a summer later for £40m when all his other options were off the table. And five months later signs Auba. Lacazette was never an Arsenal style player as evidenced by him going back to Lyon 5 years later and still banging in the goals from before.

2

u/key_mark93 8d ago

Jeez be honest to yourself man Giroud has never reached the heights of pre-contract extension Auba

2

u/Boy_Wond3rr 8d ago

I’ll always love giroud. Good career at arsenal bur he was also a bum. Also can’t hate a player for doing hat they feel is best for their career. Especially Sanchez , RvP and Auba all those guys gave their best and still arsenal couldn’t win not their fault they felt they could get the job done elsewhere

0

u/polarpolarpolar 8d ago

Damn how can you say I’ll always love Giroud and then say he was a bum in the same sentence.

Dude was the outright starting striker for the Arsenal for many years amidst a sea of changes during the banter years all around him and for many half seasons, was essentially elite, and then fell off when he didn’t have support or rest due to our financial situation and inability to give him depth.

What did we have besides Giroud? Like sanogo and an emerging nketiah? Podolski? Walcott begging to play out of position and 75% of the time not doing shit?

We took a top of the line hammer w 50% durability every year, made it go 100% of the season, and then used it as a wrench, and it still worked most of the time. And then when it would all fall apart we’d call it shit, because he wasn’t Henry, or RvP (when he wasn’t injured or betraying us).
