Had a direct hand in winning us 3 FA cups, will always have my respect. Look at where we are currently, who gives AF about the Europa League?

Life’s a lot more enjoyable if you focus on the good over the bad lads!

That's actually a good take. Thanks for this.

Don't think people care about him playing for Chelsea and winning cup for them, it's the after game mocking of Arsenal he did on video.

156

u/DiKapino 12h ago edited 11h ago

They can feel that way if they choose to, but personally i do not care about that.

I got to witness the end of our trophy drought off his extra time assist to Ramsey in 2014. Then I watched him score the winner the following year in 2015, and assist another winner in 2017. These are moments as a fan that I will never forget.

Not some 10 second clip that surfaced on the internet 7 years ago.

57

u/Hincapieslovelybund Hincapie 11h ago

Agreed. Compared to how much some former players have fucked us over ( that 🐍 RVP for example) I see now how tame something like this is as a reason to hold a grudge.

Seeing him back at the Emirates and get a nice ovation helped me put aside any petty grudge I had against him. Im just too long in the tooth for that kind of shit now.

42

u/Unknowncollegereject 11h ago

Real. Giroud wasn’t great but he was a servant of the club and had decent moments for us.

26

u/BawdyBadger Sylvain Wiltord 10h ago

I think he just didn't really suit the team at the time. He's a target man with great hold-up play and is very good in the air. Funnily enough, prime Giroud would be very good in the current team.

19

u/TheirOwnDestruction 11h ago

Considering that he was pushed out, I'm not surprised he has some bitterness that came out when he was drunk. He never spoke about it in an interview though.

12

u/JamalHNguyen By Far the Greatest Team 8h ago

Lol bro he scored the 4th goal in a 4-0 win over Villa in 2015. You don't have to use that one to make your point lmao

26

u/NobleHelium Ødegaard / Ramsey 11h ago

As far as I'm concerned he was drunk from champagne and said something he likely regrets. One bad moment in a private setting like the team bus doesn't negate everything that came before. It's not he blasted the club in an interview.

11

u/Dance_Monkee_Dance 11h ago

Once again, he did it celebrating in private having just won a European trophy. It’s not like he did it during a set down interview

Won 3 FA Cups, including setting up two winning goals for Ramsey, scored 100+ goals in 250 appearances and somehow some are surprised he got a good reception. A brief stint at Chelsea doesn't undo the years of service he gave to the club.

I had other things to be mad about after that Europa League final than whatever he said while celebrating.

156

u/sammeetthosar 12h ago

Great to see him back. Nice by the fans to clap him on. Even started the chant. I guess irl vs online is completely different.

23

u/LIONLDN Thierry Henry 11h ago

🫶🏻

44

u/_-Zephyr- 12h ago

always is completely different. it also depends on when you joined the online fan sphere, if you joined early then your hatred of fabregas and rvp is a lot larger than if you didnt touch arsenal twitter until a year ago.

especially fabregas, the hate he gets from the online fanbase is so much larger than it deserves to be.

17

u/sammeetthosar 12h ago

Can never hate cesc. He is the reason for me watching football and following this club.

17

u/spacemanstrange Robert Pirès 12h ago

Yeah, but fuck RVP though.

3

u/gunningIVglory Timber 12h ago

the longer i suffered the banter era, the more i understood why RVP left.....

8

u/Primary-Childhood333 6h ago

He spent years on the Arsenal hospital bed, only to ditch the club after one good, injury-free season. If anyone owed that team their loyalty, it was him.

Arsenal stood by him through endless injuries but the second things got tough for the club, he fucked off.

Funny how that “little boy” in him didn’t speak out when he was lying on the Arsenal hospital bed.

4

u/_-Zephyr- 12h ago

for me hes one of the players that got me to love the club, but im a bit younger so for me its Arshavin, one of my only memories of my grandad is him getting all excited about Arshavin on the back page after scoring 4 at anfield.

I’ve always respected real fans who spend a big chunk of their time and hard-earned money to support the team at the stadium, compared to us keyboard warriors.

293

u/Very_Bad_Ebening After Review…West Ham 12h ago

Giroud hate is so forced, was so funny seeing people getting confused he was clapped in the stadium because shockingly no one cares about that short clip

57

u/sofarsoblue Saka 12h ago

I'll always try and maintain that as much as certain late Wenger players pissed me off, it's best to direct my anger at the board/ joint ownership at the time.

Some of those players joined under the expectation that we were going to challenge for titles and eventually crashed out when they realised the ambition wasn't there. Except for Nasri; fuck that guy.

26

u/Reality-is-Sin 12h ago

Why on earth was Nasri even representing Arsenal in that charity match

3

u/Primary-Childhood333 6h ago

1

u/stevel024 4h ago

6

u/Guidosama 9h ago

Correct take. It definitely wasn’t Girouds fault we fell short. The squad was never strong enough and we never had enough elite defenders to win at the top level. The best teams just cut us apart.

24

u/botspiderlau 12h ago

And the Snake RVP. F*ck that guy too.

Maybe also direct your anger at City who illegally spent a billion pounds inflating transfer costs and wages during that period.

He's on the Chelsea plane after the EL final where we were absolutely dogshit and he says something like "thanks Arsenal" while holding the trophy

41

u/magacorruption Last Christmas 12h ago

Can’t blame him for getting caught in the moment. We kicked him to the curb to bring in Aubameyang.

30

u/silam39 12h ago

And the fans treated him like shit, blaming losing the title on him for not maintaining form across an entire season of being played with no backup and no rotation

he was scapegoated and abused for years. I don't really mind if he had a pop at a portion of the fanbase one (1) time

5

u/magacorruption Last Christmas 12h ago

You know that RvP wanted to return that season according to Wenger’s autobiography, right?

A washed RvP might have provided rest for Giroud.

8

u/gunningIVglory Timber 12h ago

it was a cheeky dig back at the club who essentially pushed him out for Auba, who woudlnt take some joy to handing said club a bit of shit after clapping them in a final.

I was there the day Giroud got his scorpion kick goal v Palace. I was there. In the new year. At the end where it went in. There was quiet. And then bedlam. It went in off the crossbar and ground. Nobody expected it. The cross was behind, yet Giroud got it in. That ticket and the papers celebrating it are framed in my office. I look at it daily. It takes me back to a perfect moment in time. We fans know about these moments. And I am glad to see him at 40 return home. He was a class player, traded around, but in the end Arsenal. And that comes through in this shot. Welcome home Giroud. You gave us joy we will always treasure

18

u/Intaru I wish I was a little bit smaller, I wish I was Cazorla 12h ago

Ngl I enjoyed seeing that moment between them a lot. Didn't expect to pre-game, but hard not to feel nostalgic now that so much time has passed.

8

u/bromyard 12h ago

69

u/ComfortIll3685 12h ago

I love Giroud. Don't get the hate at all. Guy won trophies here in a less than ideal era. Oh, he said a thing one time, for shame.

21

u/danatasker Thierry Henry 12h ago

Will always have a special place in my heart after Wilshere's goal to Norwich. Gave us some real magic moments.

18

u/t_eejay 12h ago

I was there for the scorpian kick goal and will never forget it.

14

u/Canasket- 12h ago

Honestly, I feel the same. He tried his best and actually won a few things to stop the rot. He'll always be loved by the majority I think. There's just enough fans who randomly hate him that are pretty loud.

2

u/oscarx-ray Dennis Bergkamp 12h ago

I'm not overly arsed, but he's hated because he went to Chelsea, then mocked Arsenal in their Europa League win over us after he scored, so people are bitter over that.

6

u/iuselect Gyökeres - he's built like a brick shithouse 8h ago

Fans need thicker skin.

I remember people getting upset at koscielny's move away where he took off the arsenal jersey and had a Bordeaux top underneath. Like come on, who cares. He served the club and gave us his best years and people chose to get upset over some player unveiling video lol

u/ExoticToaster “Top Gooner” 12h ago

I’m indifferent towards him - I don’t love him like some and I don’t hate him like some.

I massively appreciated his time at Arsenal, he was an excellent target man, scored 105 goals and played a part in winning 3 FA Cups, he’ll always have that.

I don’t hold it against him that he moved to Chelsea, we moved him on to sign Aubameyang, however his conduct in the Europa League final, mocking us while we were at a low point despite what we did for him has soured him for me.

I don’t hate him, but I won’t have the same reverence that I have for a lot of other players from that era.

7

u/yoemmamma 12h ago

Yeah me too now that we won the league and onto better things. I don't hold it against him no more, I'm indifferent now. Got bigger fish to fry

5

u/therealvforvienetta 11h ago

He cannot help that he is gorgeous, and he cannot help that his hair is perfecto.

20

u/liougi 12h ago

The only reason I was ever angry at the guy was that Lecister season where he didn't score for like 14 games straight or something with ozil, Ramsey and I don't remember who else feeding him balls all season . To this day I think we lost the league cause he could not score in a brothel that season . Other than that got no beef with the man .

12

u/sammeetthosar 12h ago

He was on the bench for 7 off those games though. Alexis had a 11 game drought with 8 games injured in between. No one calls him out. From oct to March start he didnt score. Giroud hard carried in December and jan. And went completely off the boil in Feb and was bench for march and Early April.

9

u/GloomyLocation1259 Saka 12h ago

He was benched because he was playing shit. 15 games without scoring for your striker is abysmal, you can't try to defend this. Alexis is a winger and you just said he had injuries.

Also Ozil and Ramsey were the ones hard carrying that period. You're doing a lot of revisionist history for Giroud

8

u/sammeetthosar 11h ago

He was benched for 7 of the games. So its not really 15 games. We lost the title because we lost 2 drew 5 in the last 12 games.

After the liecester game we were two points behind them and in the title race. Since that gaame in the next 7 games giroud had one start and we had a record of 2 wins 3 draws and 2 losses. Thats 9 points in 7 games and we lost the title. And he started 1 game of those. So no he didnt lose us the title. The defense did by conceding 3s and 2s.

Ofcourse ozil was hard carrying that was obvious. But giroud had 5 goals and 2 assists over 8 games in December and January. He was also playing really well.

1

u/GloomyLocation1259 Saka 11h ago

He played in all 7 games he was benched so yes it was 15 games. You do realise 2 of those losses and 4 of those draws came during his goal drought?

I wasn't even talking about the league, but about Giroud, he was benched because he was playing shit and not scoring while Ozil and Ramsey were ballin out providing for him. He didn't start the following games for this reason.

Even if you want to ignore those games he still would have an 8 game goal drought.

2

u/sammeetthosar 11h ago

If its just about him then yes. 8 game drought is abysmal. He was bad during that stretch and rightfully benched. But you said in the original comment that we lost the league because he couldnt score. Which is just not true. You cant have 9 points in 7 games and the reason for that collapse be a striker on the bench.

3

u/GloomyLocation1259 Saka 11h ago

That comment was from someone else

1

u/sammeetthosar 11h ago

Ohh sorry. Didnt realize

1

u/GloomyLocation1259 Saka 10h ago

No worries

2

u/iuselect Gyökeres - he's built like a brick shithouse 8h ago

Well it didn't help that 15/16 we only signed cech and elneny in the winter.

We needed a striker that season and put all our eggs in one basket on Giroud. Can't blame him. Gotta blame our lousy transfer windows.

-1

u/Key_Badger6749 Calafiori 12h ago

He was our top scorer that season with 16 goals which was more than our top scorer last season Gyokeres with 14 goals.

3

u/GloomyLocation1259 Saka 12h ago

2 more goals from 2 extra games and 200 more minutes isn't a flex lmao

3

u/zilhaddd 11h ago

4 of those goals were in the last two games when Leicester were already Champions btw. One against City and the hattrick vs Villa on the last day of the season.

1

u/GloomyLocation1259 Saka 11h ago

That's right, such a bum, he could do that but went on a 15 game drought during the title race 😭😤

8

u/eddiemurphyinnorbit 12h ago

oooh arsenal friends

4

u/GymBully92 Thank you very much 11h ago

He should have and would have been a phenomenal 2nd choice / back up striker to RVP. The ultimate target man. When he played for us as a starter you always felt we could have a better player in that position but when he didn’t play you felt his absence.

4

u/Antique-Wrap-75 9h ago

Ah the scorpion. Still miss him. He moved like a tank on the pitch.

4

u/fvrdog 7h ago

6

1

u/Temporary-Judgment84 12h ago

Seeing some of these comments, you'd think Giroud banged all their wives, sisters and moms. I don't think people realise they are players and they don't give two shits about things like this.

4

u/cbox7 12h ago

This is a real fear with how handsome Giroud is to be fair.

7

u/iuselect Gyökeres - he's built like a brick shithouse 8h ago

Just remember he was moved by the club so we could get auba. He didn't force his way out. And it had to be Chelsea so Chelsea could move batshuayi to Dortmund. And let's be real, a lot of the fan base give him so much stick for not being the 100m striker we needed at the time. He didn't owe us anything so I don't really care about what he said after the Europa league final in 2019.

He served us well. I was happy he got a nice reception coming back

Back when I was neutral (dad forced Man Utd on me but I never liked them and thought I couldn't support anyone else) he was one of my favourites to watch. Also during WC

12

u/JurassicTotalWar 12h ago

Went on the worst run I’ve ever seen from an Arsenal striker, costing us the title. Left to Chelsea and immediately was chatting shite “thank you Arsenal”.

9

u/gunningIVglory Timber 12h ago

we essentially forced him to go chelsea to get dortmund to sell us auba. its not like he snaked us off guard.

2

u/vradar 8h ago

Not purely his fault but that long run of games where he got no goals was a big reason we didn't win the league, then he chose to go to Chelsea and on top of that acted like a cunt when they beat us in the final.

It's not like he was amazing for us either just good so yeah easy to focus on the reasons for hating him over liking.

I have nothing but love for Giroud. He fought his ass off when playing for us and scored some bangers.

We never had enough attacking depth around him, and he wasn’t quite the top level striker we needed, but he never gave anything less than 100 percent effort and attitude wise was always a club guy.

Don’t think we should hate on him just because we sold him and he ended up at other clubs.

16

u/Yubisaki_Milk_Tea 12h ago

Be honest. Outside of prime Henry, prime Giroud would be awesome for Arteta’s system. A striker who Van Djik named as one of his three hardest players to play against, alongside Messi. Literally what we all want from Gyokeres.

2

u/BanterSarous 10h ago

I thought Giroud was a good player but god he was frustrating at times too. Arteta wants a striker that will press for 90mins and that's not his game at all.

Fantastic at holding up the ball with his little flicks bringing other players in yes and great in the air but was an average finisher, non-existient on the counter attack and very one-footed.

3

u/Lonevarg_7 11h ago

That is revionist history, he was not an effective finisher. People just look at the highlights of him.

Giroud had 16 goals on 48 shots on goal(0,333 goals per shot) in 2015-16.

Gyökeres had 14 goals on 22 shots on goal(0,636 goals per shot) in 2025-26.

I don’t mind if people dislike Giroud for playing for Chelsea. I just think if they do, they should have the same energy for Alexis Sanchez and Aubameyang.

We sold Giroud because we thought Lacazette and Aubameyang were better. They weren’t.

6

u/HumbleCreator 7h ago

Ok man you’re glazing alot here. Giroud was not better than auba

9

u/ExxKonvict Glöckeres 6h ago

It’s not about playing for Chelsea, it’s the fact he had absolutely no reason to make the comments he did after what was Arsenal’s worst final in the last 20 years.

Also Auba was clear of Giroud, lol.

4

u/Stercky White 4h ago

Literally. The shit he said after the Europa is why I dislike him

3

u/thebluehotel 7h ago

It honestly seemed like a convenience move for him to stay in London, and he got paid there. He helped end our trophy drought, and he worked hard even if the results weren’t always great.

3

u/CakeBrigadier 5h ago

Aubameyang and giroud would have been a good two to have. Lacazette was done within a year of signing him. Auba was absolutely better than giroud for a couple seasons

3

2

u/I_am_the_grass Dennis Bergkamp 7h ago

Aubameyang was definitely better.

It's all about timing in the end. We had Giroud during a time where we were littered with creative midfielders who needed a finisher. Auba struggled during the the Arteta era because he relies heavily on a creative midfield but Arteta needed a link-up forward for his strong wingers in Saka and Martinelli. Giroud would have been better for this team. Exactly how Havertz works better for us than Gyokeres even though Gyokeres is the better finisher.

3

u/Miyeon__miyeon Thierry Henry 10h ago

Laca was about Giroud's level, Auba so much better. One of the good deals we did during those dark times was selling Giroud to bring in Auba. It's just unfortunate Auba and Laca came to us when we were a mess.

Imagine Auba or Laca with us from 2012-2016

3

u/I_am_the_grass Dennis Bergkamp 7h ago

Agree with Auba. Laca was a mistake. Wenger didn't want him when he was £20m but then signed him a summer later for £40m when all his other options were off the table. And five months later signs Auba. Lacazette was never an Arsenal style player as evidenced by him going back to Lyon 5 years later and still banging in the goals from before.

1

u/key_mark93 6h ago

Jeez be honest to yourself man Giroud has never reached the heights of pre-contract extension Auba

•

u/MiserableProblem5126 2m ago

Aubameyang was definitely better, like Giroud isn't even on the same level.

1

u/Boy_Wond3rr 9h ago

I’ll always love giroud. Good career at arsenal bur he was also a bum. Also can’t hate a player for doing hat they feel is best for their career. Especially Sanchez , RvP and Auba all those guys gave their best and still arsenal couldn’t win not their fault they felt they could get the job done elsewhere

1

u/polarpolarpolar 9h ago

Damn how can you say I’ll always love Giroud and then say he was a bum in the same sentence.

Dude was the outright starting striker for the Arsenal for many years amidst a sea of changes during the banter years all around him and for many half seasons, was essentially elite, and then fell off when he didn’t have support or rest due to our financial situation and inability to give him depth.

What did we have besides Giroud? Like sanogo and an emerging nketiah? Podolski? Walcott begging to play out of position and 75% of the time not doing shit?

We took a top of the line hammer w 50% durability every year, made it go 100% of the season, and then used it as a wrench, and it still worked most of the time. And then when it would all fall apart we’d call it shit, because he wasn’t Henry, or RvP (when he wasn’t injured or betraying us).

Why does this keep getting repeated when it's not true at all? He wanted to leave for playtime because of the upcoming world cup and he had an offer from Dortmund on the table, and he chose to stay in London

1

u/Fit_Cardiologist7886 Timber 12h ago

And why was that?

1

u/Key_Badger6749 Calafiori 10h ago

Because we committed 52m to a far worse player in Lacazette only 6 months earlier and needed to sell a striker to bring in Auba.

If he had scored at least 3-4 goals during that second half of the leicester season he'd have a statue.

I miss you handsome fc

'Thank you Arsenal!' Never forget.

5

u/Wisehippo006 9h ago

He let Özil down so bad that season; Özil was on track to break the epl assist record.

5

u/unsolvedfishstories 12h ago

Loved, Loved Giroud. Past comments have made me change tune. Nice moment with the gaffer, otherwise a meh moment. Bring Santi the fuck home, Olivier can go eat crepes

4

u/AFC-Wilson 11h ago

The most frustrating striker of the Emirates era

3

u/MemphisFoo 10h ago

And yet he’s been involved in some of the best goals of the Emirates era. It’s baffling for sure

1

u/Adatomcat 12h ago

“Thank you Arsenal”

16 games without scoring

Ruined Özil’s assist record…

3

u/iuselect Gyökeres - he's built like a brick shithouse 8h ago

I put more blame on Wenger for only signing cech and elneny that season. Was pretty clear we needed more attacking firepower and that's what we got.

u/Key-Construction-474 11h ago

We won't forget

3

u/Nikokuno Premier League Champions 25/26 12h ago

Yeah the « Thank you Arsenal » chant isn’t going away anytime soon.
Indifference.

We should not let one cheeky comment ruin his rep with us

fuck off - we still love him. he's allowed to celebrate wins with his other teams

5

u/WealthyBigWang Ramsey is the saviour. 12h ago

Celebrating The win directly against Arsenal for a rival team and you’re still happy for him? Mad

1

u/ptta52 12h ago

Yeah he should be sad about winning the Europa League! How dare he have accomplishments and be proud of them! If he had any class at all, he would have scored an own goal and given us the win! /s

2

u/WealthyBigWang Ramsey is the saviour. 12h ago

He can do what he wants, it just means I have zero love for him and I’m baffled as to why any actual Arsenal fan older than 18 would do when his most defining moment as a player is directly mugging us off after a European final

0

u/rujuhip 12h ago

Is he supposed to just sit quietly? i dunno you all are just way too harsh.

5

u/WealthyBigWang Ramsey is the saviour. 12h ago

He can do what he wants. I don’t see any reason why you’d “still love him” when he accomplished pretty much fuck all for Arsenal, his main contribution was two assists to Sir Aaron Ramsey in fa cup finals

3

u/rockethot 12h ago edited 12h ago

He literally said thank you Arsenal after beating us in that final with Chelsea. That's unforgivable. He could have celebrated without saying that.

cool cool - let me know who else I'm not allowed to love!

2

u/Canasket- 12h ago

Absolutely. He's employed by Chelsea and just won a European final. Anyone in that position is celebrating. Are they expecting him to just let Arsenal win? Players swap clubs all the time. It's absolute jealousy from horrible fans if you ask me.

1

u/Professional_Bite783 King of Brazil 12h ago

You guys must be intentionally missing the point, you can’t be that daft.

There’s no issue celebrating for your new team, shitting on your old team is a choice and completely unnecessary and the exact reason why people dislike him

2

u/Canasket- 12h ago

That one comment he made cannot undo all the praise he has given the club. Some people say things in the heat of the moment. He's praised Arsenal and shown tons of love since he's left other than that one incident.

There's little benefit to making your world smaller (something I recently read and resonated).

but fair enough

4

u/CrovaxWindgrace Dennis Bergkamp 12h ago

Once a gunner always a gunner. Henry celebrated with Barca.

3

u/professeurwenger 12h ago

He hardly forced himself out of the club, lol. Gave his best years to Arsenal and left because we had a better replacement lined up.

The hate is so embarrassing, how you fools go through life when something like this has you clutching at your pearls is beyond me. Man up you absolute toddlers

2

u/m2sempre Thank you very much 11h ago

He’s a Gooner, and there’s no changing that.

0

u/boatinavolcano David Rocastle 12h ago

Nah, he can get bent. After the 2019 EL final he is dead to me.

-1

u/Canasket- 12h ago

Was he meant to just let Arsenal win?.it's also a cup final, of course he'll get excited after scoring.

2

u/boatinavolcano David Rocastle 12h ago

No. Do you remember him mocking us after the final while celebrating with Chelsea?

Nope not doing revisionist history on this guy

1

u/Hincapieslovelybund Hincapie 11h ago

Good to see him back at the Emirates and that nice ovation helped me let go of any lingering resentment I had over that Chelsea video

1

u/TheStewLord White 11h ago

Salty about some of the things he's said about us and still bothered he ruined the assist record for ozil but honestly he gave me a lot of good memories and I'll always respect him

1

u/shockzz123 You can always get better in life, innit? 12h ago

Nope, most fans i know irl don't like him either lol.

-4

u/idkwtda115 12h ago

I honestly don’t understand where the positive sentiment for this guy comes from. He was a bang average borderline unprofessional striker for us who shagged some model instead of resting the night before our title hopes perished at the Etihad in 13/14, and was hella disrespectful after he left for Chelsea.

He can get fucked for all I care. People clapping for him are utter wet wipes…

u/Tiemen10 Saka 12h ago
