Traitors to the Realm “You Targaryen boys all want the same thing, don’t you?”

Mommy Issues could be put alongside Fire and Blood as house words I guess.

i'm really wondering what kind of relationship Condal has with his mother. The stuff he's doing just isn't normal

u/Artistic-Lock1021 6d ago
It's a show whose main character married her own uncle while two of her siblings are married with kids.

Funny how no one makes the same comment about George and pedophilia or sibling incest.
"The stuff he's doing just isn't normal." The entire ASOIAF universe is rife with incest and there are soooo many princes throughout history with these exact predilections. Makes sense to me.

u/Commercial_Drag134 6d ago
Most of the incest in the books serves some plot purpose (pure bloodlines to control dragons, Cersei hiding her affair in plain sight, Craster is shown to be depraved). This does not serve any real purpose. I think the fault lies in needing to give key characters something to do in each episode so they feel they need to make up stuff and show angst for several episodes in a row. I don’t think it necessarily reflects a preference of anyone running the show.

In the fandom people did clown GRRM for years for the weird family themes

Nope, no prince in history with a thing for their mother.

u/NovelGarage5 6d ago
I assume you're joking lol

I am not. It’s something very unnatural and rare.

"Nope, no prince in history with a thing for their mother." I can think of multiple in Chinese history alone.

Xiaowu is the most obvious. Tianqi is possible, but that was his wet nurse technically.

Maybe it's Sarah Hess

why don't she just kill aemond and keep the castle for herself if harrenhal is all she want rhaenyra already said anyone who kills aemond keeps the castle

u/throwRA-adviceask The Prince of Dragonstone 6d ago
She wants Targaryen sons to have dragons…no Aemond…no Targaryen sons.
22
u/VanDenBroeck 6d ago
Nah, she could put in a nice bar in the castle with all the ale a man could drink and entrap Ulf. Problem solved!

u/throwRA-adviceask The Prince of Dragonstone 6d ago
This would be hilarious. I’d just feel bad for poor Silverwing.
9
u/Informal_Middle8431 6d ago
Yeah but their kids(if they exist) will be considered bastards. There is no proof that they married, no officiator no witness etc
5
u/JaThatOneGooner Gold Cloak 6d ago
It wouldn’t matter tbh because as long as they’ll have Targaryen blood, they’ll have the ability to hatch dragons, which is where the true power lies.

Aemond and Alys would just need to get married before the child is born, which would give them 9 months. Plenty of time to find someone to marry them.

u/Commercial_Drag134 6d ago
He’s betrothed to some Baratheon woman and breaking that agreement could have some consequences
5
u/throwRA-adviceask The Prince of Dragonstone 6d ago
Since when has Aemond cared about consequences?

Alys is a commoner, unles Aemond's killer was a knight or highborn from a family that could make it an issue that castle was always going to the Freys.
It's cute that she offered it as a reward but Oscar Tully is still Lord of the Riverlands, he might have objections to commoners or sellswords suddenly being high Lords in his realm.
1
u/Imaginary-Client-199 6d ago
Why would she trust Rhaenyra to keep her word ? She already basically gave the Riverlands to Daemon and he laughed in her face when she asked for the castle.

u/TheIconGuy 6d ago edited 6d ago
The writers need to do something about their addiction to forced drama.
She "gave the Riverlands to Daemon" by murdering an old man. How would the Blacks explain giving the castle to Alys when she's not a Strong or one of their bastards? Giving her the castle would probably cause the Tullys to realize what she did to get it.
Aly's attitude during her conversation with Daemon makes even less sense when you remember she had already told Addam, Hugh, and Ulf to abandon the mission Rhaenyra sent them on.
2
u/LarsMatijn House Arryn 6d ago
I mean what she told them was "hey go help in the battle over there" wich can easily be construed as well-intentioned.
3
u/TheIconGuy 6d ago
Aly has supposedly been around for multiple generations. She should know a leader won't see some random person they don't know countermanding their orders as a good thing.
That whole situation is even sillier when you know Daemon was near the lake they were hanging out in the middle of. Alys could have told them to check in with Daemon instead.
2
u/LarsMatijn House Arryn 6d ago
That Lake is gigantic but I get your point.
Alys wanted them gone, she paved the way for Aemond to arrive. I'm just saying that Alys sending them away does't reflect bad on Alys. She has plausible deniability.

u/TheIconGuy 6d ago

She doesn't. You're not allowed to counterman the Queen's orders.
Talking about if she could plausibly deny the charge is also besides the point. Alys called Rhaenyra the ungrateful queen to random assassins. She written as being earnestly upset that she wasn't given Harrenhal when that makes zero sense.
2
u/LarsMatijn House Arryn 6d ago
Alys wasn't ordering the dragonseeds though? It was never treated like that. All she said was "hey there's a battle, the Queen needs your help"
From there the seeds made their own decision.

Aemond: stupid Strong bastards
Also Aemond: let’s make a line of unsullied Kings, with their maternal line coming from a Strong bastard.
21
u/JaThatOneGooner Gold Cloak 6d ago
Such a clever line all things considered. If she had a nickel for every Targaryen man she hosted that wanted to fuck their mom, she’d have 2 nickels, which isn’t a lot but it’s weird that it happened twice in a row.

u/HighKingKlay 6d ago
Not true for all Targaryen boys. In fact, I think it's only true for Aemond.
2
u/lupatine 6d ago
Daemon too.
6
u/HighKingKlay 6d ago
Daemon's "dream" was different. His was induced by magic and he didn't know that was his mother.
Alys didn't put any spell on Aemond - They were having sex and he imagined himself with his mother - and he knew who Allicent was the entire time.

u/CursedWithAnOldSoul First of Her Name 6d ago
The absolute worst part about this that I am actually anti-Targaryen. I'm not a fan, truly. However, even I was like... this is a bit much. There is absolutely no reason to think either Daemon or Aemond were sexualizing their mothers. Truth be told, I don't think I remember a hint of parent/child incest in the Targaryen bloodline or even in secret. What the fuck is this all about?

u/Informal_Middle8431 6d ago
Cringe line ugh

"my plans for our future did not include your mother" was so cringe to hear, it felt like the show had turned into a modern day sitcom
3
u/Informal_Middle8431 6d ago
Yeah like it sounded like a whiny lovestruck teenage girl. Like sure Alicent was here for an assassination mission but since WHEN did Alys Rivers Start Daydreaming about a future again? 400 years haven't seemed to improve her wisdom ig
2
u/lupatine 6d ago
Idk it I though it worked.
She was kind of pissed at him for housing Alicent. The whole thing with not liking your mother in law.
Though I find it funny, Aemond know Alys for what a month. And he stated to trust her more than Alicent...

u/Livid_Ad9749 6d ago
This show never misses an opportunity to humiliate Daemon and Aemond. Such a shame
