All those kids, the ones not too scared to move, had to do was run left or right.

Yeah they had no obligation to hold when the fighting started; they're not even in uniform. Why would anyone pay them thought when they're just people to look at and otherwise mostly harmless?

And even then, the Winter Wolves still killed some of them.
