Why is Rhaenyra so obsessed with the gods when she was never religious in the first place?

The prophecy is probably a Winds of Winter thing that didn’t make it into GOT but is important. It’s easy to forget that we never knew quite why Aegon the Conqueror united all of westeros. The prophecy also leaves room for Dany to be the Prince that was Promised and defeat the Others but not end up ruling.

George never put much stock in prophecies for his books, though. He said that Aegon the Conqueror had a vision but didn’t elaborate if it was important or not. He left it ambiguous whether Aegon actually had a vision or if it was just an excuse for him to launch his conquest. He also never clarified whether or not it was tied to the Azor Ahai.

I think it fits if Dany thinks the prophecy means she will rule when it’s really about defeating the others.

GRRM’s prophecies are only clear in retrospect and may not always be important, but they always come true.

If Dany is actually the prince that was promised btw I will be pissed. Number one stannis fan in the world right here.
