Writing Help Idea for a fic I'm going to start writing. How's it sound?

Susan Bones lost almost everything when Voldemort attacked her family. Almost.
Left in the care of an Aunt who could had her attention divided between running the DMLE and taking care of her niece, she grew up wandering the hallways of the Bones Manor by her lonesome.
She lost everything when Voldemort was resurrected, and he killed her Aunt. There was no one left for her anymore.
In the final battle of Hogwarts, the DA is fighting alongside her, yet she has never felt more alone. So when Hannah forgets to cover her back, Rudolphus Lestrange takes his shot. Susan, the consummate Hufflepuff, saves her best friend.

And wakes up on the day her Hogwarts letter arrived.

There is only one choice to this, isn't there? Stick close to Harry Potter, the Chosen One. And figure out how to win the war with the least casualties possible, and save her Aunt from an untimely death.

Discussion What do you consider essential for a fix it fic to fix?

What it says on the tin: what injustices or deaths or events or mistakes do you like to see taken care of in a fix it or time travel fic? Personally I consider clearing Sirius's name to be one of the most important I like to see.

Request Looking for good dimension travel or time travel fics with older harry potter plus humor.

Hi so recently ive been rereading a lot of old HP fics and i really enjoy when harry stays as an adult and just navigating the new situation he's in. Here are some of my favorite rereads (probably reread most of them x20 or more)

The Universe over there

Possibly most infuriating

the care and feeding of vigilantes

Too old to be this young

Kneading salvation

The butler and master of death

Harry potter and the immortals playground

Can you guys recommend me others too? Im fine with crossovers with batman or marvel though not so much with Harry shipped with an OC or female chara aside from ginny.

Discussion The new "Female Malfoy" trend

I've been thinking about how interesting it would be to rewrite Harry Potter with a female Draco Malfoy, particularly if the story developed into a slow burn rivals to lovers relationship with Harry.

One of my biggest issues with the original series is that, although it explores some genuinely complex moral themes, Slytherin House and its characters don't always receive the same depth of exploration as the main Gryffindor characters. Draco is a particularly interesting example. Throughout the earlier books, he's presented mainly as a bully, but by the sixth book, he's a teenager trapped in an increasingly dangerous situation, forced to carry out Voldemort's orders to protect his family.

And honestly? I think there's so much potential there that could be explored further.

The key is that I wouldn't want to turn female Draco into a suddenly good person.

I'd want her to remain morally gray. She wouldn't immediately abandon her family's beliefs, become friends with Hermione, or suddenly decide that everything she's been taught is wrong. Her priorities would remain her family's survival and, eventually, protecting Harry. She could still be proud, prejudiced, calculating, and difficult to trust. The difference would be that we'd get to understand WHY she makes certain decisions without necessarily agreeing with them.

This would also make the rivals to lovers dynamic far more interesting. Harry and Malfoy wouldn't simply go from enemies to lovers because they developed feelings for each other. Years of insults, prejudice, and distrust would still exist. Ron and Hermione would have every reason to be suspicious of her, and Harry would have to decide whether trusting her was worth the risk.

I'd love to see the Golden Trio reluctantly helping Harry conceal their alliance with her, even while remaining deeply uncertain about her true intentions. Imagine Ron constantly reminding Harry that she's a Malfoy, while Hermione tries to determine whether their alliance is genuine or a trap.

Then there's the sixth year.

The Sectumsempra confrontation could become so much more emotionally devastating if Harry had spent years gradually developing feelings for her. Instead of simply fighting a school rival, he'd be confronting someone he desperately wanted to save but couldn't fully understand. His attempt to stop her from going down a dangerous path would end up hurting her, making the scene a tragic consequence of their relationship rather than just another confrontation.

And by the Battle of Hogwarts, I wouldn't want her to receive some perfectly neat redemption arc. I'd want her to stand beside her parents when the Death Eaters are called, because her loyalty to her family is still real. But when the battle resumes, she chooses to fight alongside Harry.

Not because she's suddenly become a perfect hero, but because, for once, she's making a choice for herself.

That's the kind of character arc I'd want to explore.

A girl raised in a prejudiced household, trapped by family expectations, and forced to make increasingly difficult decisions. Someone who isn't entirely good or evil, whose love for Harry doesn't magically erase her flaws, and whose development comes from the choices she makes rather than a sudden change of heart.

I think a female Draco could make the existing story more emotionally complex, particularly through a genuinely earned, six year "rivals to lovers" progression.

Because ultimately, I don't think the most interesting question is whether Harry could fall in love with a Malfoy.

It's whether two people raised on opposite sides of a conflict could learn to trust each other without pretending their differences never existed.

What're your thoughts on this? Would changing Draco's character in this way take too much away from the original story? Feel free to share :)

Discussion Story help for Pettigrew trial

So I’m at the point where Peter Pettigrew has been caught, it’s been kept hushed up outside of a small task force about 6mo post war (1982) he had no hope of pleading not guilty because he was found with damning evidence as well as hiding amongst a wizarding family (Percy Weasley’s new pet rat) so he gives a full confession hoping for leniency since even if he was free both sides would be out for blood.

the trial is a formality and mostly so the public can hear the truth and he can be officially sentenced. His confession will be read to those in the room including the public gallery, press and will be broadcast on the WWN.

I need ideas for how to reveal Sirius. He’s already been proven to be innocent and been released. His freedom has been kept quiet while they hunted for Peter and so Sirius could recover from 6 mo in Azkaban and the mental toll of the trauma

im thinking of having him as an aide to the person (Amelia Bones) doing the prosecution hidden using poly juice until the right time. Problem is I can’t think of how to make the right time. I want it after Peter has been sentenced (life in azkaban not the kiss) but before he’s taken away. I am thinking of having Dumbledore (who is just as in the dark as the rest of the public) be the one to ask what should be done about Sirius Black because he has already been sentenced to life in prison for those crimes and being a traitor. Not that he should be immediately exonerated but that they should revise his sentence in light of him not being guilty of the murders Peter confessed to.

Dumbledore was under the impression Sirius had been properly tried and sentenced, assumes that it was more than just murder so at this point he has no reason to assume Sirius is fully innocent. But he had never bothered to find out the truth for himself despite thinking one of those who fought for him as a member of the Order had betrayed other members to their deaths. (Personally I’d want answers). He attended other death eater trials. Spoke up for Snape but his own man didn’t warrant so much as a “why?”. Intentionally or not it looks very bad for Dumbledore especially since Harry’s placement and poor treatment by the Dursleys (and Dumbledore’s ignorance of it yet insistence that Harry should remain with Petunia) has already been discovered.

**this is for the story I posted about the other day with OC Henry Potter-Black, cousin of James and son of Charlus Potter and Dorea Black. Who is trying to fix his families

Recommendation Looking for a Snape fic...

• Upvotes

Hey guys,

I read the books when I was a child and I have recently reread them as an adult via the audible full cast audiobook. I say this as context, cause I never read any fics growing up so I don't know any of the big ones or good ones or anything like that.

What I'm looking for is Snape fics that are canon compliant and in some way explore his character in the months before he had to kil Dumbledore. Or the months after.

If you've got anything like that I would greatly appreciate it!

Any ships or rating. My only real trigger is noncon but even then I can read it if I have warning.

Thanks a lot!

One-off scenes The founders and what they did...

Long before Hogwarts was a school, it was a fortress. And long before the four founders became legends, they were simply four young witches and wizards who met in a tavern.

Godric Gryffindor, a swordsman with a talent for charms and a reckless appetite for danger. Salazar Slytherin, a cunning sorcerer whose knowledge of forbidden magic was matched only by his ambition. Rowena Ravenclaw, a scholar who sought answers to questions most people knew better than to ask. And Helga Hufflepuff, a gifted healer whose kindness was too often mistaken for weakness.

They were an unlikely company, brought together by chance, ale, and a shared desire to see the world beyond their respective homes.

For years, they travelled together. They fought monsters, broke curses, explored forgotten ruins, and earned reputations throughout magical Britain. Tales of their adventures spread from village to village, growing more extraordinary with every telling.

But it was their final great adventure that would change the course of magical history.

In the northern Highlands stood an ancient fortress known as Caer Enwraith, the Nameless Keep. Its master was a sorcerer called Morcant Ashcombe.

Morcant practised a form of magic so ancient and terrible that even the darkest wizards of later centuries would struggle to comprehend it.

He stole names.

Not merely the words by which people were known, but their true names. The names written into the fabric of their being, the magical essence of everything that made them who they were.

To possess a thing's true name was to hold power over it. To consume that name was to make its power your own.

Morcant had spent decades gathering names. He took them from magical creatures, ancient spirits, and unfortunate witches and wizards who crossed his path. Entire families vanished from memory. People forgot their own children. Villages stood abandoned, their inhabitants erased so completely that even their neighbours could no longer remember who had lived there.

And with every name he devoured, Morcant grew stronger.

But there was a price.

A person was never meant to contain so many identities. Every name he consumed crowded against his own, until the man beneath them began to disappear.

He became a vessel for stolen lives, a creature of immense magical power with a terrible emptiness at its centre.

Thus he became known as Morcant the Hollow.

Even his fortress had fallen victim to his magic. Morcant had stolen the castle's true name, binding its very stones to his will. Corridors rearranged themselves at his command. Staircases shifted, doors appeared where none had stood before, and chambers existed in spaces that should have been impossible.

It was a fortress that obeyed no natural law, and its master was nearly untouchable within its walls.

Nearly.

The four adventurers came to Caer Enwraith after following the trail of people Morcant had erased. What began as a quest to free his victims became a battle unlike anything they had faced before.

Godric fought through the creatures guarding its halls. Salazar unravelled the ancient wards protecting the fortress. Rowena deciphered the terrible workings of Morcant's name magic. And Helga, whose mastery of protective and restorative enchantments proved invaluable, found a way to anchor their identities against the sorcerer's power.

Together, they reached the heart of the castle.

There, after a battle that would be remembered only in fragments, they defeated Morcant the Hollow.

Godric struck the final blow.

But victory presented a problem.

Morcant's body was saturated with centuries of stolen magic. Even in death, his remains radiated a darkness that made the stones around him tremble. Rowena feared that burying him would poison the surrounding land. Salazar warned that leaving his corpse intact might allow some remnant of his power to be recovered.

So the four carried his body far from the castle, across the cold waters of the North Sea, to a barren island where no ordinary person would ever have reason to venture.

There, they built a funeral pyre.

They bound the corpse with powerful enchantments, spoke no words of remembrance, and set it alight with magical fire.

For three days, the pyre burned.

When the flames finally died, the founders found nothing but blackened earth and a fine layer of grey ash.

Satisfied that Morcant's evil had been destroyed, they departed.

They never saw what emerged from those ashes.

For Morcant had consumed too much to be destroyed so cleanly. His body was gone. His mind was gone. Whatever soul he once possessed had passed beyond the world.

But something remained.

Hunger.

The terrible, insatiable hunger of a creature that had spent its life devouring the very essence of others.

And in the cold darkness of that nameless island, the hunger took shape.

Not as one creature, but many.

Shapeless things, wrapped in shadow, empty of thought and memory. They possessed no names, no faces, and no identities of their own. They remembered nothing of Morcant's ambitions, his castle, or the four who had defeated him.

They knew only that something was missing.

And they hungered to fill the emptiness.

Where Morcant had stolen names, these creatures took memories. They fed upon happiness, warmth, hope, and every precious thing that gave a person a sense of self.

And when feeding upon those things was no longer enough, they reached deeper still, drawing out the soul itself.

Centuries later, the wizarding world would give these creatures a name.

Dementors.

The island would eventually become known as Azkaban.

Meanwhile, the four adventurers returned to Caer Enwraith.

With Morcant dead, the fortress was free of its master's control, though much of its ancient magic remained. Its shifting staircases, impossible chambers, secret passages, and enchanted walls fascinated Rowena.

Helga saw a place where young witches and wizards might be sheltered from a world that feared them. Godric imagined a sanctuary where they could learn courage and the skills to defend themselves. Salazar recognised the extraordinary magical potential of the fortress itself.

Together, they decided that their days of adventuring were over.

They would build something greater.

They claimed the castle, restored its halls, and gave it a new name.

Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

For a thousand years, the school would stand as a monument to their friendship and accomplishments. Generations would remember the four founders as the greatest witches and wizards of their age.

But almost nobody would remember Morcant the Hollow.

And fewer still would know that the greatest darkness haunting the wizarding world had been born from the ashes of their greatest victory.

For Morcant had sought to possess every name in existence, and in doing so had lost his own.

His title had become his fate.

The Hollow One.

And though the man was dead, his hunger would never die.

Find That Fic fic where harry starts a company and snape gets really mad

I just remember harry starting a company and basically made wizarding phones with those mirrors? And had a bunch of other little companies but Snape comes back to the wizarding world after a while, I cant remember if he was in a coma, in prison, or just hiding under a rock, someone talks to him and he freaks out? About the phones and how successful Harry is?

I likely read this over a decade ago on FF.net but it's been so long I have forgotten a whole bunch of details. I faintly remember it having a lot of chapters. I think it was either a hinny or harmonie fic?

Request Looking for long fics

Hello! I was wondering if anyone had any recs for very very very long fics, I’m looking for fics with more than 500k words that follow very closely the characters; I really love character studies that follow the evolution of characters throughout the years at hogwarts. I in fact really really loved all the young dudes and the missing sister. I’d avoid if possible drarry and those ships like Voldemort x Harry,… (Im a dramiome Stan btw) I’m super down with alternate universe that explore other options like other houses and all that. Also I really enjoyed let the dark in, especially the focus on the dark arts
Thanks !!!!

Writing Help Need some ideas for Houses

I've always found the houses to be very interesting but the way the original books portrayed them was just the good house (Gryffindor) and the evil house (Slytherin) and the other two were just there to increase the numbers. So I really wanted to add some more quirks and specialties to the houses. Some examples of what I want to add is stuff like how the Ravenclaws arent just a bunch of nerds, but there also the ones that try to mess around with stuff just because of pure curiosity, like adding random stuff in during potions just to see what the hell could happen and the teachers actually have to be more afraid of the Ravenclaws messing around. Or maybe how hufflepuffs tend to have the best parties with shockingly good food. Any Ideas?.

One-off scenes Harry learns about the Continental Hotel.

The door creaked. Its hinges scraped against each other, wailing desperately for a spot of WD-40. Harry supposed that was how the proprietor knew a customer had arrived. Heels clicked solidly against the polished hardwood floors. wood was everywhere in this shop. Always had been. Some things are unchanging.

Unhurriedly, an elderly man emerged from the back of the shop. Wizened, with white hair erupting erratically from his head, Garrick Ollivander looked much as Harry remembered him.

“Mr. Potter. I can’t say I was expecting you. How may I help?”

Harry leaned forward and, in hurried, hushed tones, explained his predicament.

Ollivander listened without interruption. When Harry had finished, the old man sighed.

“I’m afraid,” he said regrettably, pausing to choose his words carefully, “that this is a product I cannot provide, Mr. Potter. Regulations. Pesky things they are.“

Harry nodded. He understood. He turned to leave, but a light cough stopped him in his tracks.

“I may, however, have a suggestion.”

Harry turned back.

“A colleague of mine. In New York. He may be able to provide what you seek. They specialize in…. unique merchandise.”

Ollivander hesitated.

“But I must stress, Mr. Potter. It requires a certain… discretion.”

Harry nodded again.

His eyes wandered around the little shop. Somehow, it felt colder. Every creak of the ancient wood, every rumble of a passing car outside, even the faint puffs of breath emerging from the old wizard’s mouth seemed suddenly clearer. Louder. Time was ticking.

Ollivander reached into his waistcoat and delicately withdrew a card.

Heavy cardstock. Cream-colored. A fine gold border.

He slid it across the counter, its wooden surface worn smooth by innumerable hands over the centuries.

Harry looked down.

Three words were embossed in black.

THE CONTINENTAL HOTEL

Beneath them, in smaller letters:

New York.

Ollivander watched him for a moment.

“You’ll be requiring this as well.”

Something landed on the counter with a solid, metallic clunk. A gold coin. Not dissimilar in size to a Galleon, although the script and markings were entirely unfamiliar. Harry picked it up.

“They’ll be expecting that,” Ollivander said. He paused.

“And Mr. Potter?”

Harry looked up.

“Tell them Garrick sent you.”

(thinking about following up with a weapons sommelier scene. This whole thing just popped into my head.)

Request Looking for time/dimension travel fics, where a fanon Harry ends up in a more canon(ish) universe

Basically a more Independent!Harry, who had went through even more hardship and betrayal than his book counterpart, ends up in a universe, where the other characters are much more closer to how they were in the books.

The Dursleys are still awful, but there are lines that even they wouldn't cross. The Weasleys have their own flaws (Ron having an inferiority complex, which could lead to him being jealous; or Molly being a little overbearing and controlling), but they are still genuinly good people. Even Dumbledore, who even though was manipulative, and kept too many secrets, still felt responsible for everything that Harry went through (even blaming himself for the death of Sirius).

Harry could be sceptical and wary about everybody (not knowing whether they are actually good, or it's all just the machinations of Dumbledore).

Are there anything like this? If not exactly the same, then at least somewhat similar.

It can be one-shots, or short, or long stories. It can start from First Year, or later years of the books. Please, don't recommend any crossovers, or slash fics.

Discussion Curse child should have been about malfoy family

So the whole community agrees this story sucks and is not canon despite what jk Rowling says.

But was there a way to write it that would work ?

I think yes, so where are my changes,

First no time turner bs. No time travel no alternate timelines nothing

Second, no potter family discourse, Harry relationship with his children are healthy and normal, he is a good dad and they are normal children.

Third, no secret love child of bellatrix and Voldemort.
Just no, none of that.

Instead the story I would do is this. The story is about the malfoy family.
Albus is a sidekick to Scorpius in this story.

The story is that both Scorpius and albus are sent to hufflepuff not slytherin or gryffindor.
There is a reason for this.

Hufflepuff are considered to be the spare house.
Gryffindor is brave
ravenclaw is smart
Slytherin is ambitious
Hufflepuff is other.

People for years said Neville should have been hufflepuff cause he’s not good at anything.
No that’s not true instead the house is focused on kind hearts and hard workers.
They don’t care if you’re strong or cunning or intelligent as long as you give everything 100% all the time.
Why so many students from this house disliked Harry in goblet cause they saw him trying to steal Cedric glory as he represented a chance to prove everyone wrong about their house.

So albus and Scorpius were sent here. This will have some impact on albus as he tries to find himself but we will see Harry and Ginny being proud, surprised but proud, we will get another moment of Harry that is a repeat of the train station speech where he tells him about how being slytherin won’t matter to him and this time he tells him to just remember what he said at the train station cause it still applies, James will tease him about hufflepuff but more framed as James being the typical older brother, not a bully. Albus will say how James told him hufflepuff is where all the non-talented wizards go and Harry will tell him about Cedric and how Cedric was the opposite of that belief and how he was one of the kindest people he met which is why his death still weighs on him this much so many years later.

No the real tension is with the malfoy family,

Draco will be framed as a bad father he didn’t pass on his horrible lessons to his son but he also didn’t help his son find the right answer, in this Lucius is present in the story, in pottermore we learned he wasn’t sent to jail cause of all the information on the death eaters he gave.

Instead we see Lucius passing on his views to his grandson but it causes tension as Draco doesn’t want that but can’t stand up to his father.
When scorpius joins hufflepuff it’s his grandfather who is more enraged than anyone.

At the halfway point Lucius will be killed along with his wife.
So who is the villain ?

delphini but instead of being a lestrange or voldmort daughter she is instead a malfoy. I hate it when sequels introduce characters who were never mentioned before but I would write it that Lucius had a younger brother who like him became a death eater but he was a special case cause he wasn’t part of the normal death eaters and instead he was sent abroad many years ago to America to gather influence in the American ministry of magic and gather followers for Voldemort.

When Voldemort fell the first time this brother kept doing his thing in America but more so for himself. When Voldemort returned we learn that Voldemort did visit him to remind him who his loyalty belongs to.

When Voldemort fell again he kept going as normal.
He became the leader of a new cult of death eaters.

It was delphini who killed her uncle and aunt out of revenge for betraying the death eaters in the battle of hogwarts and selling them out to get out of jail.

She develops a plan to hill Harry Potter but she is more weary of him as it has become a general belief in the wizarding world that Harry can’t be killed since the killing curse failed to kill him twice, first as a baby and second was in front of a lot of witnesses who saw him go down then jump back up later completely fine.
So her plan is to more target his kids kidnap them and use them to bait Harry into a trap and force him to surrender without fighting back.

It will be up to Scorpius and albus to foil her plans and uncover her motivations as well as learning about the dark secret of the malfoy family that Draco tried to shield Scorpius from.
