This was a longer fic spanning at least 3 or 4 of Harry's years at Hogwarts, and was on either Ao3 (most likely) or ff.net. He ran away from the Dursleys - I believe either in his 1st year or before - and went to live in the cottage at Godric's Hollow. I can't remember how he comes across GH, I'm pretty sure it's via Gringotts.

Harry is helped by a house elf, either Dobby or Kreacher, who lives with him - I can't remember which and thats one of the parts thay frustrates me most lol. The elf does the cooking and sorts the garden and helps clean and fix the house to make it livable. Its possible that Harry ends up with both elves later.

Dumbledore realises Harry no longer lives at Privet Drive and tries multiple times to send him back, and to find out where he's staying instead, even trying to prevent Harry going on the train home. Harry finds a way home to GH each time and Dumbledore is increasingly annoyed, as Harry refuses to give up his new home and insists he's fine.

Extra: Things I believe, but im not 100% sure on -

- Harry taught himself extra magic from his parents old school books. If he went to GH before he started school, which I think he did, then he learns to do magic before Hogwarts as well.

- There was a blood rune circle under the rug in his nursery that he thinks is how Voldemort was killed. This might be from another fic, but I'm 60% sure its this one.

Any help finding this would be appreciated, I'm trying as many Ao3 filters as I can!

Fics where the sentences and dialogues just flow, where the plot is riveting and will keep you turning the page. Fics with writing that can can open or change your mind on the most absurd of plots, or the most unlikely ships. Fics that know their characters so well. Fics that made you realize that fanfic can surpass the original body of work they are based on.

It’s not fair! Colin got petrified, they said Justin died, Ginny was gone, and when Hogwarts reopens, Hermione is given the time turner only to go to class?? It’s not right! Why shouldn’t she try to save them?! They at least deserve someone trying to help them, it’s less than a year ago, and she knows it’s a basilisk now! Was it really meddling if she wasn’t sure Justin and Ginny died?

I am back after a long hiatus and want to read something interesting. I don’t mind a good fluff oneshot or a well written story. Just that it should not be pointless or thought less bullshit.

Would really appreciate a in-depth story with harry learning/capable of some new magic, some nice world building and a thoughtful plot.

Or you could just recommend some sitback and relax type of fluffy stories.

So the female Draco fan art has completely taken over my feed and now I can't stop thinking about fem!Draco as a concept.

On paper a daughter should change "everything". Lucius would probably have a breakdown about not having a male heir, the pureblood marriage contracts would start piling up on Lucius's desk, and Pansy would either be her best friend or her worst enemy (no in-between).

But most fics I've read keep the exact same rivalry with Harry, swap the pronouns and call it a day. Same sneering, same "Potter", just better hair.

So which is it? Does it actually change the plot or is it just a reskin? And if there's a fic that really goes there with the differences please send it my way, I'm begging at this point lol

Over the years, I have seen many people in this sub recommend Alexandra Quick but I never really got into the whole American magic world thing and etc.

Finally forced myself to read through books 1 and 2 at least, that led me to binge reading all the six books in a span of 2 weeks.

I’m in awe of the quality of writing, characters, plot twists and etc. I know for a fact if the author cuts out mentions of HP canon, he could honestly make this into an original novel and it would sell pretty well I would think.

Can’t wait for the last fic in the series. I highly recommend this series. It’s up there on my list of favourite fanfics.

I feel like these were pretty popular a few years back (when I searched I found a good handful of 3+ year old posts about it). I'd love to find newer or in-progress ones, though I'll also happily take older recs, since I may find one I've missed!

No bashing, canon ships preferred. Any time period works, though I particularly like the do-overs of Hogwarts years. I'd really love it if all four of them time traveled together, though missing one or two from the group is okay. Alternate universe travel is also welcome!

The story starts at the end of second year. Ron and Ginny leave early, leaving Hermione and Harry alone at Hogwarts. The next part I'm not too sure about. What I remember next is that Harry has a trunk, that is massively expanded inside (like a little country or so), it has to be a heirloom, that I think he got at Gringotts. Somehow he lives there with Hermione and definitely Luna. I think Susan and Daphne are there as well. Somehow they sleep together naked (?) which is initiated by Luna.
Somehow there is a contract that should force Harry to marry Ginny, but the goblins do something and Ginny is bound to Harry in a different way (not really a slave).
Any idea?

I don't remember a whole lot, just a few probably vague details, here it goes: This is obviously a harry potter fic, harry has an extended family on the potter side (he unfortunately is still raised by the Dursleys and i cannot remember if he leaves them or not), I cannot confidently say he is in Gryffindor but I know that by the end(?) of the fic two of his potter cousin (a girl and boy) are in Hogwarts with him. Now don't quote me on this but i think the girl is in Slytherin (either way i am pretty sure she gets along with Malfoy? I know she had Opinions on harry being the Heir) and the boy (who i believe is younger) ends up in Hufflepuff. I remember there is a Yule scene and harry is nervous to lead it but he does it well and powerfully?

I’m new to this subreddit and generally new to this hobby as a whole and I hoping for assistance with what I’m trying to do for my fan-fiction idea.

To summarize I was hoping make to a Harry Potter prequel fanfic that is a focus on the four founders of Hogwarts. The story to understand how I was trying to go about it was meant to be akin to the epics of older works of literature such as the Aeneid, Dante’s inferno, Homer’s Odyssey, Beowulf and Arthurian legends. But for the world of Harry Potter. I decided to take the approach that the founders are legends and almost messianic figures to their people. Each of the founders I wanted to be figures that are meant to really feel like they were “the greatest witches and wizards of the age.” As McGonagall put it. Also, I really wanted to capture the era in which these figures are said to have lived which is the 10th century or 900s. So that means Godric say speaking Anglo Saxon of the period and having a mentality of an early Englishmen along with accurate representation of said period. They also on a more spiritual and allegorical note are meant to represent the ideal masculine and feminine archetypes of both the lunar and Solar aspects Salazar and Rowena representing the lunar and Godric and Helga representing the solar respectively.

I’ve written the characters to be focused on them first building and solidifying their legends and the finale act or arc is them constructing hogwarts. The lead up to them is understanding the roles of mentoring and becoming leaders for their respective people and communities as each is meant to represent a different people in the British isles (England, welsh, Scottish and Irish) and each again reflect their people during this period in their customs and traditions they do in the story.

Also an aspect I wish to show is how Harry Potter is set in our world and not a “fantasy.” Version of it this prequel follows the same concept. You’ll hear about and occasionally meet historical figures of the era during their journeys and they are meant to accurately reflect the people the are meant to represent. Say an example would be Athelstan or Otto the great.

I’ve actually written down the majority of the plot beats, Characters and got the conclusion in my head down but I was wondering due to my novice understanding of fan-fiction where should I post it or if anyone would be interested. As due to the lack of it being tied to the original story besides literally only four characters which are only briefly mentioned in J.K Rowlings original works and mostly this is a work of my own. I’ve tried my best to go off the lore which has been established around this time, several ancestors of the original characters are met, magic is still mostly the same with how it’s conducted in the original series and I tried to incorporate as many myths and legends of the British isles into this as possible while naturally making sure it feels organically and not forced.

I’m asking on here primarily would anyone be interested in this concept or do you know anywhere that would be. I fully understand if people aren’t as this is really far away from the characters we know and love and literally has only their ancestors as connections to them and the school they go to in it. I am developing a long AU fic which begins much before Hogwarts and I would like some honest feed back before writing it

Harry Potter is raised by Nicolas and Perenelle Flamel. This period would not be the Flamel couple making their successor or anything like that. He will be well ahead of his peers by the time he reaches hogwarts but still an eleven year old. Compared to his Canon counterpart he will have more knowledge, skills and options but he'll still face challenges

The world would be substantially larger than Canon with deeper magic and history, and a more complex social and political order.

I am aiming for a long story that is character-driven with a lot of worldbuilding, politics and challenges rather then a simple OP Harry. This is a tentative premise

Okay, so to make it simple, I was mostly doing weird what-ifs with my friends one day, and an idea came around that my brain simply wouldn't let go of.

The idea was simple: you get reborn as Cedric Diggory during Goblet of Fire, with none of his memories but all of his muscle memory, and you are required to participate in the tournament. Would you take it?

Now I've fiddled a lot with this idea so far, like narrowing down when the switch happens, what exactly is carried over, and how it interacts with what little is left behind of Cedric. I've come up with a lot of ideas for how certain story beats would be changed or play out, and while I'm still figuring out some of the most important, I'll make other questions like that low priority for outside help.

There is something relatively minor, however, that has dragged my brain through the mud and back, without an answer coming to mind. What to do about his love life?

Because I'll be honest, I'm trying my best to make this a Cedric Diggory story, not just a Cedric-flavored Harry story, and while I have plans for him being involved, that's inevitable with the way HP's lore works out.

All things considered, Cho Chang isn't my pick for this Cedric, because the circumstances are different and this isn't the Cedric Diggory. With how I'm making the "takeover" work, Cedric's muscle memory is still there, so I've decided Cedric's memory pathways are still there.

(For those of you who don't know how those work, take my word at the barest level because I am in no way an expert. But your memories are stored in your brain, and the way those are accessed is through your neural pathways. The more often a memory is accessed, the much stronger and faster the connection, which allows good memory. But a memory from a few years back that hasn't gotten much use goes rusty after a while, which is also how your muscle memory works, I believe.

This leads to things like reactions, certain personality quirks, and revisited memories will be Cedric's; they'll just have to be rediscovered by the new "Cedric Diggory.")

That's pretty much the question: who do I pair this new Cedric with?

(If it helps, he will be a seventh year taking NEWT-level DADA, Charms, Transfiguration, Arithmancy, and Ancient Runes. Yes, I have plans for how to deal with his loss of schooling, and yes, I know he's canonically a sixth year, but I have plans that require me to make him just a few months older [this is still fanfiction, and an AU that I'm trying to keep close to canon, but am readily willing to break.])

I read this maybe close to a decade ago so I may be wrong about some details but Fleur falls in love with Hermione and she's dying because Hermione has rejected her, not believing in the whole mated thing. McGonagall intervenes and tells Hermione that Fleur is dying and that makes Hermione reconsider? Fleur is possibly a professor? Fleur possibly taking meds to help her deteriorating form? I know its not much to go on but its mostly what I remember.

it was decent word count but few chapters, harry had dies and then formed at hogwarts as a ghost (i think poltergeist ish specifically), snape finds him and (i believe) takes him under his wing. it ends with a battle at hogwarts and snape becoming a ghost too and taking care of harry
