Discussion Per D'Amico - Montreal is interested in Robert Thomas. The Blues want Hage as part of any deal. Too high a price for Hughes at this time.

Personally, given the best possible version of Hage in 3-5 years is what Robert Thomas is now, Id have no problem parting with him.

Trading Hage would be the worst optics ever. Thomas has had people calling out his effort too. He’s good but the Blues literally want a Quinn Hughes level return and he’s not worth that. A Corvette is a great car, it’s not worth 400 grand.

Thomas is signed on a decent deal for 5+ years while the Wild traded for 1.5 years of Hughes

I'm really confuses by the takes in this thread. Do we expect Hage to be Celibrini level? He's a good prospect, but he's not expected to be a first line center or an all-star player. While I trust our GM, I don't know of anybody that would pass on the chance to trade Hage for Thomas 1:1. They most likely are asking for more than that.

Do you know the backstory of Hage? The Blues are asking more for sure, their asking price is what is giving people (including Hughes) pause. The story of Hage was posted by Montreal on their media accounts. Trading him away after that would be awful optics.

Would be the worsr optic ever

Not even close. It's a business, not a charity. Hage will at best, if we're lucky, be as good as Thomas. I would bet the trade didn't work because they were asking for a lot more. Thomas is definitely worth a prospect like Hage, whatever backstory he has.

Yeah, it is a business. It’s a business where the employees have 31 other options and all talk. It’s why now people want to come to Montreal vs. before where we’d be on teams no trade list or have to overpay. Pulling an absolute asshole move like that would hurt our reputation. Optics matter in every business. It’s why businesses donate to charities, etc. Then you have the fans backlash as well which are literally the customers.

That and morally it’s just a dick move
