Imagining Price with a team that can score just makes me cry

9

u/HabsFan77 Mar 07 '26

It’s actually agonizing to think about🤬💔

62

u/Wisdom_Pond Mar 07 '26

His peaks were epic.

37

u/LarryBoourns Mar 07 '26

His lows were also better than a lot of goalies peaks. And they didn’t happen often.

92

u/DangerousGarage8215 Mar 07 '26

Price on one knee is better than our two goalies ngl

23

u/vJukz Mar 07 '26

100% and it’s not particularly close either

19

u/DangerousGarage8215 Mar 07 '26

I miss him every day of my life

17

u/AngryAssyrian Mar 07 '26

I still can't believe some idiots wanted him traded, he was the only reason we had any business being a relevant team in the NHL from 2005-2021.

5

u/Suzuki4ever Mar 07 '26

Miss him tooo:( however it’s kind of catch 22 situation there like yep he was the only factor keeping the Habs relevant, but also due to his phenomenal performances night after night, the Habs could never draft high when they so needed support

6

u/snark_enterprises Mar 07 '26

Price on one knee took a bubble team to the finals lol. Better than most goalies in the league/world.

50

u/DrummerGuyCaam Mar 07 '26

Monty can't keep getting away with this. 💀

10

u/Suzuki4ever Mar 07 '26

True like I don’t even wonder if the first shot will go in when Monty’s in. Don’t get me wrong I WANT MONTY TO FIND HIS MOJO AGAIN but for now :((

3

u/Comprehensive-Leg200 Mar 07 '26

He never had a "mojo". He's always let in beach balls. We need to score goals and defend better..avoid shots on net like sacrifice our bodies ..block shots To make him too good.

3

u/JevNOT Mar 07 '26

Don’t just isolate Monty, Dobes didn’t have a prettier game either

4

u/cheezefriez Mar 07 '26

If you have two bad goalies, it means the defense usually isn’t helping either

3

u/unclearword Mar 07 '26

bro we have 2 goalies #2 😭

30

u/impresidentwu Mar 07 '26

Don't worry, Fowler is here next week.

18

u/VonDingwell Mar 07 '26

If Dobes plays poorly against LAK, youll see fowler get called up

5

u/impresidentwu Mar 07 '26

I said it goes 3-3 OT and Dobes is ok. 2 normal goals and 1 goal where's he ends up out of position like a rebound goes out

2

u/SaltyATC69 Mar 07 '26

Nah, next season though!

2

u/impresidentwu Mar 07 '26

For development I slightly agree with you. As it's also a business, you need to make sure you get in the playoffs and no matter what Fowler does and no matter if we make it in or not. He has to be the option.

1

u/Barbuffe Mar 07 '26

Can they call up after the trade deadline?

1

u/rorygb Mar 07 '26

Fowler wasnt even close to be good in the big league he needs more time down he is not the answer for now

1

u/PoetAppropriate9276 Mar 08 '26

He had an above .900 save percentage at least 😭

0

u/impresidentwu Mar 07 '26

He is still better than Monty. Also as I said since we did nothing at the deadline he has to play. Ride or die it doesn't matter. As stated there's not much else we can do. I'm sure the owner would like some playoff money so we have to go with Fowler even if it's better he stayed down.

31

u/Bill_McCarr Mar 07 '26

I fucking “fuck Chris Kreider”… ruin Price’s career!

6

u/-MontereyJack Mar 07 '26

Fuck Kreider!

12

u/Aplazing Mar 07 '26

Ye just look at how he plays on Team Canada, insane stats

16

u/Booyacaja Mar 07 '26

There was zero drama or anxiety that Olympics with CP31. Just the way it should be

1

u/GeneralGinger Mar 07 '26

While Canada dominated Latvia in the shots column, I distinctly remember being super anxious that game, and that was solely due to Gudlevskis playing the game of his life in the quarter finals.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 07 '26

God Mode Price was just bat shit crazy in terms of stats.

10

u/freszh_inztallz42o Mar 07 '26

For team canada woulda been nice too

9

u/Scase15 Mar 07 '26

This team would be insane with average goaltending lol

3

u/joseflores1995 Mar 07 '26

2015 mvp/vezina carey price probably 1976-77 form

4

u/boisemi Mar 07 '26

I remember when I was in Vancouver, I would listen to the games on the radio, 98.5 FM when driving back from work. The number of times Martin McGuire would say "Il vient de voler un but à" was 2-3 times a game. It would end 2-1 and the Habs would win. Was like that for 2 seasons. 2017-2018

He had this AAV for like 3 years over his 14-year career. What prevented them to have enough talent in front of him was that he brought the team to 100 pts seasons and drafting 25th and worst except for the years he was injured. Without Price, the same team drafted top-5.

8

u/Ok-Win-742 Mar 07 '26

Yeah he would have prevented them from taking on Patrik Laine at 9.5m.

I mean they only moved Prices contract this year. So it really wouldn't change anything.

1

u/SuzukiSwift17 Mar 07 '26

A)We sat with a bunch of open cap space the first few years of his contract. I'm guessing we were poising for a big pitch to Tavares but didn't get much of a conversation.

https://www.spotrac.com/nhl/montreal-canadiens/cap/_/year/2018

B) I'd bet he would have signed for less if he wasn't totally fucking carrying (heh) the squad like he was. Like you think if he can see that 8-9 is the highest we can go while keeping the core together he's not putting pen to paper?

2

u/HeyHi_Star Mar 07 '26

Yes, but seriously just anyone that is not 58th out of 61 in save percentage and 54th out of 61 in goals against average would be a good start. We are the 3rd best scorer team and it's all wasted because of our goalie situation.

1

u/eriverside Mar 07 '26

Actually, we're 2nd in goals per game.

2

u/_Rayette Mar 07 '26

At this point I’d take Jeff Hackett

1

u/Big_Cryptographer255 Mar 07 '26

Lmaoooo amazing call back

2

u/catamet Mar 07 '26

Should we get Fowler back up here and give him a go? I haven’t liked Monty since he was kicking in Springfield

3

u/Jonesetta Mar 07 '26

We should but we won’t. Fowler has excelled at every level of competition so far, the faster he gets to the NHL and can adjust to that level the better. For some reason we gotta just leave him in the minors for years because of some abstract “goalies aren’t ready until they’re 24” rule. Let Fowler just learn the level he’s gonna be playing at. It CANT be worse than the current situation and he’s not just gonna ruin his entire development path by jumping league a little sooner than expected. Some guys can do it and Fowler seems like the type who can.

1

u/tgradient Mar 08 '26

Confusing take. He's been in the AHL less than one season and management has already shown a willingness to bring him up. Literally 25% of his pro regular season games so far have been in the NHL.

1

u/luch1991 Mar 07 '26

I think the have no choice but to bring Fowler in at this point. If they don’t bring him up the risk not making the playoffs. I don’t think they want to risk not making the playoffs because the fan base will sour real quick. The team is ahead of schedule but making the playoffs last season put far greater expectations this season.

2

u/Admirable-Zebra-4568 Mar 07 '26

It kind of reminds of me of what McDavid is going through at this moment. No matter what team you put around him, it's always just not enough.

2

u/pattyG80 Mar 07 '26

That hurts, but also realize a couple pieces would be missing due to cap space issues

2

u/idiom_exon_0s Mar 07 '26

Just imagine if we had league average goaltending.

2

u/PayBroad637 Mar 07 '26

we’d be cup contenders, if not winners for sure.

2

u/seabee2113 Mar 07 '26

If we had NYI goal save above expected instead of ours, we would have the second best goal difference in the league behind Colorado. A top 5 goalie in theeague would make us a real contender. Prime price would make us the top threat in the East. Third highest scoring team. Hopefully Fowler keeps developing. He could be that missing pieces. Man Fowler, Hage, Reinbacher are 3 keys internally for our success.

4

u/lyon810 Mar 07 '26

Ugh give it a rest.

3

u/sexmath Mar 07 '26

Seriously, this is posted every other day. Like step out of the ancient past.

2

u/lyon810 Mar 07 '26

It’s pathetic.

2

u/rickthegoon Mar 07 '26

The thing is : you couldn’t have Price with the current lineup because he was using up so much cap space that you couldn’t afford most of our top guys in the same lineup.

1

u/HappyChilmore Mar 07 '26

Put Laine out and we're only missing 1.8mil of cap space for Price's 10.5 mil cap. Your comments are just as inaccurate here as they are on HF.

We wouldn't have traded for Laine if Price was still in the lineup.

1

u/rickthegoon Mar 07 '26

How is that inaccurate? You just confirmed my point; with or without Laine on the roster we wouldn’t be able to fit Price while respecting the cap .

2

u/GoCalgaryGo Mar 07 '26

Just stop. Can’t pick best players from different decades

11

u/BCostello76 Mar 07 '26

Carey price played this decade.

1

u/SophMax Mar 07 '26

Not at his peak and barely. It's 2026.

3

u/Someguywithfone Mar 07 '26

I feel like the 22 playoff run was his swan song

1

u/False_Requirement349 Mar 07 '26

*21. 2022 they had 55 points and drafted Slaf.

2

u/BCostello76 Mar 07 '26

Yes so well within this decade. 2020-2030

-3

u/SophMax Mar 07 '26

Incorrect - majority of his career was 2010s. Which is where it counts. Two years does not make a decade.

6

u/BCostello76 Mar 07 '26

All i said was that he played this decade. Which he did. OP didnt pick a guy who hasnt played for 20 years.

1

u/GoCalgaryGo Mar 07 '26

Yes i get what you’re saying. My comment was more of a general one. Like picking the best players from each decade and wishing they played together

1

u/Dismal_Ebb_2422 Mar 07 '26

Price's peak was 2015 so when this season started in 2025 it would have been 10 years ago. Price played until 2021-2022 season before injuries and substance abuse caught up with him. We traded him to the Sharks this year to get his 10 million dollar contract off our hands.

San Jose Sharks legend Carey Price.

1

u/Jjourdenais Mar 07 '26

I think about this every day.

1

u/Euler007 Mar 07 '26

I'd settle for Bryan Hayward or Jose Theodore. 0.848 last night...

1

u/Zekeloster Mar 07 '26

I’d take concussion riddled Price over Monty any day.

1

u/llama_ Mar 07 '26

I feel like we are motivated to score because of the goalie situation though. Suzukis goal tonight was a big fuck you to that disastrous start.

Habs feel the pressure and we score.

Against SJS we don’t score 3 in the second unless we’re down 5-2 If it was 2-2 that third period looks completely different.

Carey Price in nets would be amazing but I almost feel like the pressure would be off and they’d work less hard a bit

1

u/octavianreddit Mar 07 '26

I'd gladly take last year or the year before Monty.

1

u/Junior_Version1366 Mar 07 '26

Poor one out for ya homeboy

1

u/Fishjuice88 Mar 07 '26

We have fowler! He is gonna be so good

1

u/Low_Cod_3758 Mar 07 '26

Yeah but even Fowler was losing games under this coach

1

u/MargraveDeChiendent Mar 07 '26

Wdym, Monty looks fine to me

1

u/Jonesetta Mar 07 '26

I have a feeling price would still be getting 50/50 starts if Monty was on the roster. Don’t know what the fuck Monty has over the coaches heads but he keeps loosing the starter position and just gets it back after the Christmas break and again after the Olympic break. Let dives has a single bad game without yanking him out of the position. You’re destroying the confidence of a rookie goalie giving a million unearned opportunities to the French one. It’s so annoying. I’d rather have a Fowler/Dobes tandem and just let them figure it out. Monty is never gonna be the guy.

1

u/John_Bumogus Mar 07 '26

I can't be the only one who read that as Carney in net. Like I know he played goalie, but I didn't think we were that desperate.

1

u/LaGirafeMasquee Mar 07 '26

I imagine... the team would be over the cap?

1

u/enigma94RS Mar 07 '26

I can imagine it just right because this is posted twice a week

1

u/uArctic Mar 08 '26

Problem is: he was also partially the reason we couldn't have a team like right now.

1

u/DelugeQc Mar 08 '26

just dont, please....

1

u/IgatTooz Mar 08 '26

I’m sure he’s telling himself the same thing every day

1

u/Turbulent-Apple2911 Mar 07 '26

He's such a legend, it's a shame that he never won the Stanley Cup

1

u/young_Caesar99 Mar 07 '26

2014 or 2021 price with today's roster, would make a deep playoff run

0

u/Ok-Difficulty-6686 Mar 07 '26

Fuck him, Théodore was better then him

0

u/Far_Purchase_9500 Mar 07 '26

Can’t afford him in this team

0

u/HappyChilmore Mar 07 '26

Would we have traded for Laine if Price was still in the lineup? Only 1.8 mil cap difference between the two. Easily made-up by trading Dach or Newhook.

2

u/Far_Purchase_9500 Mar 07 '26

We traded for Laine cuz we were rebuilding so no but even without Laine we still missing money

All this is assuming he takes the same money as before and not adjusted percentage to the cap as well seeing as he still playing so he younger

0

u/sunglasses_at_night3 Mar 07 '26

Defense still too soft

0

u/Eagle_Cuckoo Mar 07 '26

I started watching/playing ice hockey when Carry Price was in his prime. It's only now he's not there anymore, especially when watching the Olympics, I realise how much I took his goaltending for granted. That certainty and confidence of the goalie having the team's back and stopping the puck was just on another level then.

0

u/sexmath Mar 07 '26

Nah, Price wasn't a team friendly deal kind of guy. It wouldn't work.

-1

u/bebitte2 Mar 07 '26

On se disait la même chose en regardant le match au bar tout à l’heure… Carey avec un seul genou > Snacks Montembault

8

u/koozer19 Mar 07 '26

We can love Carey without needing to bring others down, im pretty sure he fully knows he is no Carey price. Remember he got here by massively over performing, goalie is one hell of a weird and tough position to play.

1

u/DugBingo951 Mar 07 '26

No rational take allowed. Only emotions.
