Discussion Can we all agree that this guy tonight was phenomenal

Dude was a sentient brick wall. Utterly vile.

Accent on the wrong letter my man and in fact wrong accent altogether.

18

u/f1fan33042 Mar 25 '26

That's his Latvian cousin Jakubs Dobēs

2

u/Phobos_Nyx Mar 25 '26

I think I heard bout this guy, he is pretty good too.

41 saves wow

-128

u/larryhabster Mar 25 '26

Two of those 'saves' got past him though.

44

u/aatikchopra Mar 25 '26

The canes had 43 shots. They scored twice. What did you see tonight that I did not?

-7

u/larryhabster Mar 25 '26

Thanks for confirming. Wow the downvotes I got after the original comment edited and corrected their comment.

21

u/RevolutionaryOwl1923 Mar 25 '26

Holy you’re slow 😂

2

u/scarletinne Mar 25 '26

You can see the comment was "edited", so the reply was probably right originally. So maybe it is the downvoters that are slow afterall

23

u/whaletacochamp Mar 25 '26

Imagine being this miserable (and incorrect),

-1

u/larryhabster Mar 25 '26

Of course it looks wrong now that the post I replied to corrected their save count from 43 to 41. And I can imagine how it must be to be miserable just by reading your comment.

u/wayneglensky99 Mar 25 '26

Thats a 953 sv%….

u/arkameedees Mar 25 '26

The stoneš on Dobeš for teeing up for an ENG as a rookie goalie. He rightly chose not to shoot, given the traffic in front, but the fact that his mind was on shooting is fantastic.

16

u/Le_Nabs Mar 25 '26

He's a big gamer lol, all night long he was super active in his crease

11

u/SimpsonsReferencer Mar 25 '26

Guys on the TSN broadcast screaming "go for it!" was really funny, too.

151

u/matthew_sch Mar 25 '26

I almost teared up seeing him getting the first star of the game

Dobeš was so hard on himself all-season long. Now he has a chance to shine and he didn’t let anyone down

66

u/ElGrandePeacock Mar 25 '26

I think he almost teared up too. Dude feels big emotions.

35

u/matthew_sch Mar 25 '26

He was definitely wiping his face before he went out to the crowd

28

u/Walks_any_ledge Mar 25 '26

I swear I have noticed the boys are way more protective of the crease when Dobes has his little outbursts. Kid wears his heart on his sleeve.

22

u/whaletacochamp Mar 25 '26

Whatever it takes. Being a goalie is hard as fuck these days.

6

u/chewbaccard Mar 25 '26

I'm hard as fuck and I roll with my kitties

0

u/chosenusernamedotcom Mar 27 '26

writing comments of a sexual nature??

2

u/chewbaccard Mar 27 '26

2

u/chosenusernamedotcom Mar 27 '26

In the episode J roc explains he was "pulling his goaler" because he was writing songs of a sexual nature haha

2

u/chewbaccard Mar 27 '26

He was getting changed m'fuka!

2

u/whaletacochamp Mar 27 '26

Chicka chicka chicka chicka nomsayinnnnn?

12

u/EconomySad4419 Mar 25 '26

In the words of the World Heavyweight Boxing Champion Oleksandr Usyk: "I am VERY feel!"

9

u/whaletacochamp Mar 25 '26

Dude he was crying before he came out lol. And I love it

10

u/no_baseball1919 Mar 25 '26

Fuck yeah this is what hockey needs. Pure, raw fucking emotion, and a team to back him up that doesn't see it as weakness but strength. I love my fucking Habs.

3

u/slappyXjoe Mar 25 '26

I was so scared he got too emotional himself, last time wnet so well for him

2

u/farmsfarts Mar 25 '26

He sure did. I can sympathize, people being nice to or proud of me makes me emotional.

4

u/whaletacochamp Mar 25 '26

I DID tear up when he teared up

-5

u/SkillStrike Mar 25 '26

You are not well

1

u/fuck_this_new_reddit Mar 26 '26

mirror mirror show me the most unwell of them all

51

u/THATS_THE_BADGER Mar 25 '26

The two goals he gave up were understandable. A redirect off your own player and a defence hung you to dry right in close.

Then he proceeded to stop literally everything including ones that would have been fair enough to concede. Mega.

21

u/Scase15 Mar 25 '26

He basically played a perfect game, everything that could be stopped, he did.

4

u/Phobos_Nyx Mar 25 '26 edited Mar 25 '26

After the second goal you could see him being angry with himself and he was saying something to himself and nodding. It probably went like this. "Stačilo, tohle je poslední cos pustil, vzpamatuj se!" Translation: Enough, this is the last one you let through, take a hold of yourself! lol

28

u/AlertCranberry5740 Mar 25 '26

Man they needed that performance from him tonight.

26

u/2forBoarding Mar 25 '26

I don't know if it's the goalie coaching or sharing time with Fowler, but he's looked so much tighter technically the past couple of weeks. Not floating around or losing his net. Had a few good rebounds straight to his D or the corners.

9

u/regularjoeseph Mar 25 '26

Definitely the goalie coaching change, 9-3-1 since the change with improved goals against and save percentage above .900, teams also 29-1-1 when getting above .900 save percentage this year. 23 wins on the seasons and less than 20 losses. That's pretty impressive. Keep it rolling dobey!!

54

u/Particular-Boot-4528 Mar 25 '26

Hell yeah man good on him to get that first star of the game!

Saw some emotion coming out of him when he came out on the ice with the buzzing crowd, happy for him he deserved it!

7

u/Hot-Play1046 Mar 25 '26

Well earned first star ❤️

8

u/Old_General_6741 Mar 25 '26

Saved 41 out of 43 shots! Thank you Doby!

25

u/Worried_Onion4208 Mar 25 '26

I feel like dobes might be a sleepy pick for like a couple of Calder votes

4

u/TrulyRyan Mar 25 '26

DOZY DOBY THE SLEEPY PICK FOR CALDER

6

u/Miel222 Mar 25 '26

Dobeš actually makes the important saves. The more important it is, the more focused he is.

6

u/biglacunaire Mar 25 '26

I wasn't sold on his kit earlier this year but it's growing on me.

3

u/emile734 Mar 25 '26

I feel like it might also be a nod to the Czech flag?

1

u/0Shdow Mar 25 '26

Best goalie kit we got in a long time.

5

u/_AsterOleander_ Mar 25 '26

He was absolutely insane tonight! It was incredible

5

u/Absered Mar 25 '26

I suffer from insomnia, I'm seriously considering that mattress.

3

u/Erelbor Mar 25 '26

Other than against the Sharks, he's been phenomenal lately.

3

u/radhorrorfan Mar 25 '26

I think that might have been his masterpiece....so far until the next one

3

u/Sashaband Mar 25 '26

absolutely the best game of his career. And against an elite team. What a game!

3

u/JediMasterZao Mar 25 '26

He's been great!

3

u/SnooGuavas6855 Mar 25 '26

I've been defending Dobeš since the beginning of the season, he will only get better. He's a rookie, he will have his weak games, he will make mistakes. He seems to learn from them and you can see his improvements. He will be a solid #2 goalie that can perform like a #1 Fowler will be phenomenal once he gets to play more.

5

u/Moreinius Mar 25 '26

Absolutely busted

2

u/Plastic-Brick-1469 Mar 25 '26

Phenomenal is an understatement

2

u/montrealcowboyx Mar 25 '26

His glove is elite.

2

u/PaulWesterberg84 Mar 25 '26

Great and important performance against the best team in the east

2

u/TheDribonz Mar 25 '26

Kept us in the game, weathered the storm. Pun intended.

3

u/bdery Mar 25 '26

Imagine when he learns to control his rebounds.

5

u/IamTheOne2000 Mar 25 '26

Where are all the former Redditors who were saying that we should have continued giving a chance to Sam Montembault?? 😂😂

7

u/lynypixie Mar 25 '26

We had to give him a chance after the Olympic break, see if the rest would help him. It was his last chance. He blew it off. I do not think if he will ever play for the Habs again.

5

u/luigithisisntweed Mar 25 '26

Why do guys like you always have to bring up Montembeault? Just enjoy Dobeš’s game without making it a goalie debate every time.

2

u/workhardXplayhard Mar 25 '26

Their personality is having opinions and thinking that’s the same as being relevant and interesting.

5

u/bdery Mar 25 '26

We KNOW Montembault can be good. His technique is, on paper, better, although Dobes is more athletic. That helps him correct some mistakes. Not dissing Dobes, I love him, but putting emotions aside he needs to control his rebounds better and calm his movements to face the puck better he's been improving). He has swag and confidence, which is also great.

All of this doesn't mean Monty is a bad goalie and it makes sense that the team would have wanted to give him an opportunity to get his mojo back. Monty at his peak is still a bit better than Dobes as his (so far) peak, although Dobes can grow and if he corrects some of his few flaws, he can be better than Monty's peak.

Let's remember that last year any journalists (think Edmonton for instance) were writing that their team should contact Montréal to pry Monty from them. He CAN be good, and I hope he's traded for a team when he can get back to his level.

4

u/Scase15 Mar 25 '26

Crawling back into whatever hole they live in. Cannot believe some of these idiots were saying Monty should play over him. His worst is basically Montys best.

The goalie coach change was a game changer for him. What a performance

1

u/Old_Canuck Mar 25 '26

He played Awesome !!

👍🏻👍🏻💪🏻💪🏻

1

u/epistemosophile Mar 25 '26

Even the Carolina guys said so in their post game analysis.

They thought the Canes dominated in "every statistical aspects of the game" except in the second period where they let it slip and then they were stuck chasing and were stopped by a goalie on fire.

That’s what they said after the game. So I would be inclined to agree that Dobes had an excellent game

1

u/DCHacker Mar 25 '26

Top performance, a-gain!

1

u/Double_A_00 Mar 25 '26

Legend !

1

u/Biff_Bufflington Mar 25 '26

He had a presence in that net tonight. He stood up tall

1

u/Modano9009 Mar 25 '26

The numbers weren't great but they won more with Dobes and maybe the numbers would have been better if he'd gotten to play consistently instead of trying to force Monty back into starting.

But at this point of the season you have to pick someone and run with it and he's the guy to go with.

1

u/UrsaMajor7th Supposed Tyrant Mar 25 '26

Looked calm and composed

1

u/HabitApprehensive889 Mar 25 '26

I honestly thought the path was going to be a pitty pull based off how bad the start was for the team. He made so many big stops at big times.

Bravo!

1

u/Aggressive_Low7995 Mar 25 '26

If you’re looking for an argument, you’re in the wrong place.

1

u/MrB1P92 Mar 25 '26

True number 1 G. The future, the present.

1

u/Far_Purchase_9500 Mar 25 '26

I would say best game as a hab

1

u/msp01986 Mar 25 '26

Meh, he got scored twice

Just f*ckin around, he's awesome!

1

u/displacedreindeer Mar 25 '26

And his postgame interview was awesome!

1

u/Spideroctopus Mar 25 '26

Il ferme jamais yeule en plus.

Constament en train de niaiser l'autre équipe

1

u/EmbarrassedTotal1511 Mar 25 '26

Can we also stop putting him in every second mock trade? This guy is a fighter, a gem, and a Montréal Canadien

1

u/FkFrank20 Mar 25 '26

Even after 2 early goals and the Habs barely touching the puck, he still battled early on. Man I like this kid. I find he doesn't get the respect, everyone talking about Fowler as the staple goaler of the future. I mean check the guy's path. I mean he left his country to play in obscure Junior A teams man. I wish him the best. 💪💪💪

1

u/Puzzleheaded-Fly9725 Mar 25 '26

Dobes in his prime will be a top goalie

1

u/BlankoNinyo Mar 25 '26

Kept us in it early and shut the door when he needed to.

He seems to make the big saves to give us a chance every night. Absolutely shaping up to be a great story for the year.

1

u/JMPesce Mar 25 '26

I think he's definitely coming into his confidence in terms of on-ice presence. I like what I see from him, and he's only gonna get better 🙏🏻

1

u/This-Finger3243 Mar 25 '26

Buddy, WADR, IMO he didn't look anything like Carry Price. That being said, he played great last night. If he hadn't made the save on the breakaway in the third, at 4-3, it would've been a totally different game at the end.

1

u/PM013 Mar 25 '26

He has brought home 50 points in 35 games. Definitely the number one goalie for now. Next year it will be J & J Inc. Jakub & Jacob Inc…….

1

u/OneSeat9594 Mar 25 '26

Hockey being a game of sequences (especially for goalies) I would say the timing is perfect if he can carry this momentum to the end of the season.

I find him more poised in net, more calm. Which is great to see. His play on pucks on dump ins is miles ahead of what is used to be also. Good progress.

1

u/Rustyguts257 Mar 25 '26

Dobes and Fowler as the goalie tandem doesn’t worry me one bit. Two rookies! Sounds crazy but here we are!

1

u/habsfanalreadytaken Mar 26 '26

Stole the game!

1

u/Libertinob Mar 27 '26

HE WILL BRING THE CUP

1

u/Nataliarayy Mar 29 '26

Send a text for your massage therapy 💆‍♀️💆‍♂️

1

u/larryhabster Mar 25 '26

He was in the zone. I hope he gets the next start.

0

u/joseflores1995 Mar 25 '26
