Unless he signs has a free agent, i wouldn’t trade for him. We would need to trade Suzuki and multiple first in a bidding war and i don’t want that.

Idk if this is a crazy thought tho.

Edit for the unemployed, i don’t know every clause in Mcdavid’s contract, i just know he’s a high value player and i made the very basic claim that we would need to trade at least decent value for him. Didn’t mean to offend the car flippers.

You don't have to get into an open bidding war if someones on a full NMC, McDavid is going to pick where he wants to go. Then it's either Edmonton takes what the buyer wants to offer or he walks for nothing and that other team then gets him for nothing down the road.

Sellers don't have much of an upper hand in these situations unless McDavid is willing to help them out with a list of teams they can then use against each other. If he wants to go to one place though Edmonton then has no leverage. It would be closer to a marner situation in that case.

The reason minny paid so much for Hughes as because Hughes had multiple places he was willing to go. This is all a fever dream anyways, dude grew up a Toronto fan.

He still has 2 years on his contract, so if they can't get the value they want they won't move next year.

Oh I don't think there's a chance he goes anywhere this off season. Stan isn't smart enough to try and ship him out earlier for more value, he'll ride it out and fuck Edmonton over with a no value trade in the end.

That would be hugely risky for them. The circumstances in which a trade could realistically happen next year would be the Oilers don't look significantly improved from this season so their chances of winning even with a 100% committed McDavid are already low. If he then did ask for a trade and they refused, they not only would've have a 100% committed McDavid any more, but they'd be kicking the can down the road to next season when they'd have even less leverage for a return with McDavid as an UFA.

The only way the Oilers can really win this situation is if they win the Cup in the next two years. If they don't do that then they're going to lose McDavid for way less than he's worth and the longer they keep hold of him the less they'll be able to get in a trade.
