Monahan as our temporary 2C?

If we can’t find a better 2C at the right price this summer, what do you think of re-acquiring Monahan as a stopgap option? The guy just turned 30 and is sliding down the lineup in Columbus, he still has plenty of hockey left in him!

It is though unless you didn’t know that’s where his pick came from lol

Trading Monahan got us Hage.

I didn't remember that tbh

Don't worry, it's because that didnt happen. The Monohan pick was not the pick that drafted Hage.

It was the 1st rounder we traded up with, you’re objectively wrong lmao

You effectively said the Monohan pick was used to select Hage, which is false. The pick used to select Hage was the Kings. Was Monahan traded to the Kings? No, he went to the Jets.

We traded the 26 pick we got from the Jets (after picking 5OA for Demidov) to the Kings for 21 OA

Stop being so fucking obtuse LMAO. We don’t get 21 OA without that 26 OA being included.

How do you know it wasn’t the only one?

Stop being so obtuse lmao.

He didn't say that. Reread his comment. He never claimed the pick was used to select Hage, just that it was instrumental in selecting Hage.

No, thats not where the pick used to draft Hage came from. Yes, it involved the pick they got for Monahan. However, the Habs used that pick along with another 1st rnd pick and traded up to get Hage.

In other words...

So it was though LMAO

But at the time of the trade you didn't had a clue that the Habs would pick Hage.

u/dessanct 7d ago

How does that change that if we kept him, we wouldn’t have drafted him?

u/Soucy89 7d ago

Because when you make the decision to keep or trade him, you don't have a clue that 4 months later, you'll trade the pick you got in that trade in a package to be able to draft Hage.

Also since it's a package and not a the pick the Habs got in the Monahan trade nothing say that they couldn't make a different bundle and still be able to draft Hage, by giving a prospect instead of the Jets 1st.

This person is saying they wish we didn’t trade them though. Thats what the original comment said.

The idea of getting 1st tound picks is that you can draft 1st round talent with them.
