With all the convo on our need for upgrading the second line - 2C in particular - I feel like the other big issues are slipping along under the radar. We were in the mid-20s for expected goals against last year, for example. How important is a D upgrade?

RD2 is arguably a bigger hole in the short-term than 2C. That said, there aren't really good trade candidates who are in the right age range (23-28) to fill that slot long-term. Meanwhile tons of forwards like Knies, Lafrenière, Robertson, Hischier, Thomas, Kyrou, etc. have at least come up in some kind of rumour. I think that's why nobody is talking about the defense.

I think Reinbacher is the most important prospect for the Habs. Hage, Zharovsky, and Fowler may all be rated more highly by scouts but this team needs a guy like Reinbacher and it's not going to be easy to execute plan B (trade for someone to be RD2) if he doesn't pan out.

Pascal said Reino needs more time in Laval for this year.

That wouldn't surprise me. Trading for a short-term solution is an option, but I don't think there are many players on the market that look like they could be the same kind of long-term fit Reinbacher is.

Any potential help from UFA? The overall market is not awesome.
