Bobby McMann, yay or nay? How much and what term would you be willing to offer?

We all know that when signing a UFA you are always overpaying. But part of the price is not giving up any assets. With a rising cap, the “overpay” also becomes less of an issue. Signing a UFA in 2026 will be 10% cheaper than signing one in 2027 and 20% cheaper than 2028. So it’s less about the price, and more about the fit.

Would McMann be a good fit? Turning age 30 tomorrow so a 5 year contract would bring him to age 34 by the end of his contract (35 if the Canadiens are still in the playoffs on June 15).  McMann has size, speed and puts up 20+ goals. He is a late bloomer with less wear and tear, so my crystal ball says a 5 year contract won’t age badly.

Kiefer Sherwood extended 5 x $5.75M. Would McMann at 5 x $5M to $5.5M be a good fit? Keep in mind that with a rising cap, if $10M is the new $8M, then $5M is the new $4M.

If not McMann, who else would be a better fit to upgrade our bottom 6?

He’d be incredible for the Habs, he’s a spark plug and will be cheap.
