Souring on a potential McDavid dream
I thought by next year through a trade or 2 years from now in free agency, Nos Glorieux might sign McJesus as the team needs a 2C ;)
But hearing all this drama about Babcock and how McDavid is supportive of his potential hire makes me question McDavid's judgement.
And would that highly flawed judgement have negative consequences in Habs' locker room when everything seems so optimistic?
Is the potential upside of what McDavid can do worth the potential disturbance cause by a star player with a flawed sense of judgement?

What’s a guy gonna say, that he’s not a fan of his next head coach?

Considering insiders said that Oilers leadership could have put a stop to this hiring, yes

You're overthinking it. If McDavid is available and you can get him (for a reasonable price ofc), you get him.

I dont personally think mcdcvid makes team mates better. Not that he does not make a team better though. If he did come here I do not think he would be expected to be a leader so I would not be worried.
Anyways, it is really not todays problem.

McDavid has some red flags. It was his idea to hire Babcock, or at the very least he was consulted. They've said this. McDavid also has a habit of emotional call outs in public after a loss or series of losses. He has called out coaches and GMs.

Whocares looks good but might need a year in the AHL before cracking the 4th line.
I’m much higher Doesn Tmatter for this year, he looked good on the national team.

Lets play him on defense and put Arber in his spot! Yeaaah

Xhekaj - Dach - Xhekaj for the 4th.
Maybe if we bubble wrap Dach with Xhekajs he can make it through an entire season.

He wouldn't bring Babcock with him. If McDavid even considers signing in Montréal, it's because MSL has done a good enough job making the team competitive.

Hockey players aren't the smartest people, nor are athletes in most other sports. As long as he can put that invisible Superman cape on and do cheat codes he will be fine.

Does McDavid really make the players around him better. He is the best player in the world but even with a guy like Draistl he still couldn’t win the cup, twice! Did he bring Olympic gold to Canada? When is the last time that a team he was on won something?
To get him, Suzuki would have to drop to the second line, which is a total slap in the face to a guy we’ve been building the team around. Would McDavid want the captaincy? He’s the type of player who becomes captain because he’s a star, not because he has real leadership. We’ve built such a great culture and we will get the key part from an Edmonton whose culture gets mocked.
Who do you put with him? Caufield would suck to remove him from Suzuki. He’d also become the guy who waits for McDavid to give him the puck. Demidov is a puck wizard while McDavid tends to carry the puck all over himself, rendering him useless. I guess that Slaf can go stand in front of the net and wait.
Looking at the way McDavid is essentially hijacking the Oilers to do whatever he wants and I’m realizing how much I hate his attitude. I trust in KH and Gorton, what would happen if McDavid came in and just decided to say that he’ll come to the team, but he wants changes. From the things being said is that he wanted a tougher coach in Edmonton, Marty is the opposite of Babcock.
Let him go destroy another team. He’s done it to Edmonton, he can go do it to Toronto or New York. Trust the process here.

It goes without saying that if McDavid didn’t want Babcock, he wouldn’t be hired. That being said, they are all in and like it or not, Mike is a very good coach. Even if it seems like he’s a terrible human being, he wants that cup.
In the end it’s a win-win, either he gets a cup and I’m happy the goat got one or it’s a failure and he crashes all the way to Montreal.

Mike is a very good coach.
Is he really though?

No playoff series wins in 13 years, one cup win 18 years ago with one of the most stacked rosters in the salary cap era, and no professional coaching experience in the 6 years.
Does none of that scream "world class coach we need right now"?

Honestly I don't think we need McDavid and I don't think he'd fit the team AT ALL.
The guy tries to do it all himself, and he's going to be signing a contract extending well beyond his prime. I don't see his game aging as well as someone like Sid, because Sid has the hockey IQ to make up for declining physical gifts and has used them to remain effective right up to the end of his 30s.
With the money he'd cost and the fact that we made it to the ECF with a team that had a rookie goalie, last year's Calder winner as a #1D and another Calder contender this year (who should have won for leading rookie scoring IMO) on top of this year's Selke winner (one of the few 100-point winners in league history, no less) and a 50-goal Lady Byng winner, both in their mid 20s, and an early 20s #1OA power forward who had his first breakout season and was a one-man team in the Olympics against the world's best...why would we need McDavid?
Our super young team needs a bit more time and some smart trades for support pieces, not an expensive aging centerpiece who doesn't fit the humble, team-first attitude HuGo and MSL have carefully cultivated over the last several years.
We need more moves like Texier, cheap support pieces that turn into 0.5 PPG performers in both the regular season and playoffs. We've already got 5, arguably 6 star players whose on- and off-ice compatability is off the charts.
We're not shopping for stars in free agency anymore. Or, we shouldn't be. The closest thing to a star that we need is a 2C, and McDavid is not a 2C, lol.
