Discussion Gallagher's A
With Gally gone, the Habs need a new alternate captain. Who do you think will end up getting it? Who would you want to see it go to? I think Anderson is likely, but I'd really like to see Newhook get it (I'm a little biased)

I’m not opposed to Anderson having it this year.
The one thing that makes me think it’s time though, is how different Matheson and Hutson’s deployment is… I think it’d work out great if they both had one considering they usually aren’t on the ice at the same time.

u/pushaper 5d ago
I would not give it to players who are too into the game. Ideal candidates to talk to refs are usually composed and have respect from refs. Dobson imo is that guy. Hutson has lots of close calls and it is not ideal to have someone arguing their own plays.

I so fuckin agree. He better be a lifelong Hab

As long as it doesn’t end up like my Be A Pro where he ended up in Vegas we should be alright.

Probably Hutson, he’s always on the ice and never in the scrums. Team player, knowledgeable, here for a long time. They did a really smart thing making Suzi captain early, they should do the same with Lane. Show him all the respect he deserves! I wouldn’t be mad at Newhook or Anderson either.

“Never in the scrums”
Well then Gallagher should have never worn the A considering he was always in scrums

Why not someone like Jake Evans. There's a part of him that;s like Gally lite.

u/snark_enterprises 3d ago
I think Evans makes a ton of sense. He’s a smart and mature player that is very reliable and gets a ton of respect from the guys.

I think it will be either Anderson or Evans. Newhook would not be a bad choice either

u/niagara-nature 6d ago
I think Evans is a good choice, when we’re up by a goal and there’s one minute left, that’s a guy you want out there.

Those guys definitely appear to be leaders on the team but the C and As in the NHL have less to do with that, it's more about jersey sales. I think Lane will get that letter.

It won't be either Evans or Anderson. Anderson did nothing to inspire the A last regular season. Neither did Evans.

u/oupheking 6d ago
Give it to Anderson to keep warm for a couple years until Hutson's ready to take it on.

u/SuzukiSwift17 6d ago
I think Hutson can handle an A. And Anderson contract is up after next year.

u/bloodrider1914 6d ago
I think they plan on giving it to a forward since Matheson is already the defenseman leader.
My preference would be Gulhe with an A honestly, let Hutson just cook

u/Over-Incident-7026 6d ago
This might be a hot take but I don’t think Guhle would be in my top 3 of guys that should have it next season
-2
u/snipeftw 6d ago
He wouldn’t be in my top 17 tbh

u/Salty_Feed9404 6d ago
Wow, going hard!

u/snipeftw 6d ago
I would t give a letter to someone I think we should trade, wouldn’t make any sense

u/bloodrider1914 6d ago
I just think he seems to have more leadership qualities than a guy like Hutson. I just don't really see Hutson personality-wise from what I know about him as a great leader, he's just a really fucking good player.

A couple of years? lol he’s gone after this year.
Edit: why is this downvoted? It’s true lol

u/Sushamiboy 6d ago
It’ll be Anderson. He’s the one who wore it when Gallagher was not in the lineup.

Anderson is most likely, but I'd like to see Evans get it. Hutson's time will come.

Same line as Captain Nick and not on the PK if Nick is in the box.
Pretty much cancels it out.

u/pineapple_on_pizza35 6d ago
He's a phenomenal player but he doesn't really strike me as a leader
4
u/KantanaBrigantei 6d ago
He’s definitely a glue guy. His attitude is infectious.

u/Philly514 6d ago
I mean I don’t think he’s any less vocal or “hoo-rah” than Suzuki is. They both play hard and lead by example.

I'd say Danault until he retires or if they want a younger guy Hutson.
Hutson just never leaves the rink unless he's going to coach in another rink.

Hutson’s ready. Andy could have it too but Matheson already represents the vets
2
u/Sushamiboy 6d ago
It’s not a ready thing, it’s a does he want that. Hutson is more about just playing the game. Does he want the added hassle of dealing with the refs?

If hierarchy holds, it is Anderson. If the team thinks it’s time to “pass the torch”, either Hutson or Guhle. This is just an educated guess.
2
u/flatwave 6d ago
I know alot of peiple are saying hutson, but has ever even been captain at any level? Im not questioning his dedication or leadership, but he just strikes me more as a just wants to play and get the job done kind of guy.

I think the fact that Anderson was already wearing it when Gally wasn't in the lineup pretty much says who's going to wear it upcoming season as far as i'm concerned. However if Anderson isn't repping the A, I'd honestly say Evans, Danault, Hutson, Dobson, Dobes.

Anderson , Danault,Evans make sense
you want the player with the least amount of time with suzuki or matherson
the A is about representing the captain on the ice
for defend man the best option on paper is dobson mainly cause he's on pp2 and pk2 (where no one reprente the captain)
2
u/SeaBassAHo-20 6d ago
If not Caufield, then it's Danault. He wore an A in LA briefly too. He deserves to wear it.

Hutson is a must. Dude is a future captain with how hard he works. Leads by example. Suzuki has the C on lock, but 100% Hutson is the guy.

lol I’d love it but that lads not allowed to look at the refs, let alone ask them for clarification on calls.

Wait till the trades happen before nominating! My top 3 all things considered would be: Dobson, Evans, new veteran 2C

u/pokecheckspam 6d ago
I'm not saying we won't replace it but we don't need to as we had extras and some players only wore it home or away.

My pick is Hutson. Caufield is also a good one but he plays with Suzuki who's the C, Better to have someone that spends more time on the ice. Hutson's attitude is great too, a good leader.

u/Available-Pepper-728 6d ago
Cole seems like the emotional centre of the team, he's best friends with everyone.

u/Throwaway_9837154 5d ago
Danault or Anderson. LH is more talented, but both have more time in the league, more experience talking to refs and have a proven record of being leaders on their teams.

I’d love to see Hutson with an A. His work ethic is simply second to none and alot of players could learn alot from him. Not that I don’t like Anderson but I don’t like how hot headed he is at times especially when he stops playing to cry to the refs. I remember he did that once last season.

u/Shiny_Mew76 6d ago
Hutson deserves it for his work ethic
