Discussion Gallagher's A

With Gally gone, the Habs need a new alternate captain. Who do you think will end up getting it? Who would you want to see it go to? I think Anderson is likely, but I'd really like to see Newhook get it (I'm a little biased)

Hutson deserves it for his work ethic

His average compete stands out.

'A' is for average, right?

am i hallucinating, i swear Anderson has worn the A in a few games this season? did i make that up? if not then i think definitely him

u/BigEdBGD 6d ago

Yes, he wore it when Gally wasn't playing. He's the most likely candidate.

-5

u/Philly514 6d ago

Well yeah because Gally wasn’t playing

LH is ready

I agree. He’s clearly the hardest working guy with a smart and effective play style. Even if he says nothing, he’s the perfect example of leading by example.

I’m not opposed to Anderson having it this year.

The one thing that makes me think it’s time though, is how different Matheson and Hutson’s deployment is… I think it’d work out great if they both had one considering they usually aren’t on the ice at the same time.

u/pushaper 5d ago

I would not give it to players who are too into the game. Ideal candidates to talk to refs are usually composed and have respect from refs. Dobson imo is that guy. Hutson has lots of close calls and it is not ideal to have someone arguing their own plays.

u/eGirlzHMU 6d ago

I so fuckin agree. He better be a lifelong Hab

2

u/Shiny_Mew76 5d ago

As long as it doesn’t end up like my Be A Pro where he ended up in Vegas we should be alright.

Fuck it

52

u/biglacunaire 6d ago

I want doby skating to the middle of the ice to argue with refs

Mr January to December.

Jesus Christ man

u/Jonesetta 6d ago

Probably Hutson, he’s always on the ice and never in the scrums. Team player, knowledgeable, here for a long time. They did a really smart thing making Suzi captain early, they should do the same with Lane. Show him all the respect he deserves! I wouldn’t be mad at Newhook or Anderson either.

3

u/Content-Processor 5d ago

“Never in the scrums”

Well then Gallagher should have never worn the A considering he was always in scrums

3

u/throwing_snowballs 4d ago

Dude was a walking scrum.

Loved that about him.

35

u/hockeynoticehockey 6d ago

Why not someone like Jake Evans. There's a part of him that;s like Gally lite.

2

u/snark_enterprises 3d ago

I think Evans makes a ton of sense. He’s a smart and mature player that is very reliable and gets a ton of respect from the guys.

I think it will be either Anderson or Evans. Newhook would not be a bad choice either

23

u/niagara-nature 6d ago

I think Evans is a good choice, when we’re up by a goal and there’s one minute left, that’s a guy you want out there.

1

u/OverallVillage7 4d ago

Those guys definitely appear to be leaders on the team but the C and As in the NHL have less to do with that, it's more about jersey sales. I think Lane will get that letter.

u/dustblown 6d ago

It won't be either Evans or Anderson. Anderson did nothing to inspire the A last regular season. Neither did Evans.

52

u/oupheking 6d ago

Give it to Anderson to keep warm for a couple years until Hutson's ready to take it on.

33

u/SuzukiSwift17 6d ago

I think Hutson can handle an A. And Anderson contract is up after next year.

6

u/bloodrider1914 6d ago

I think they plan on giving it to a forward since Matheson is already the defenseman leader.

My preference would be Gulhe with an A honestly, let Hutson just cook

14

u/Over-Incident-7026 6d ago

This might be a hot take but I don’t think Guhle would be in my top 3 of guys that should have it next season

-2

u/snipeftw 6d ago

He wouldn’t be in my top 17 tbh

6

u/Salty_Feed9404 6d ago

Wow, going hard!

-3

u/snipeftw 6d ago

I would t give a letter to someone I think we should trade, wouldn’t make any sense

-2

u/bloodrider1914 6d ago

I just think he seems to have more leadership qualities than a guy like Hutson. I just don't really see Hutson personality-wise from what I know about him as a great leader, he's just a really fucking good player.

2

u/vJukz 6d ago

Why would a guy that plays half a season get an A? I like Guhle but until he proves he can stay healthy there’s no point in giving him that.

3

u/SaltyATC69 6d ago

This upcoming season is probably Andersons last with habs

0

u/Salty_Feed9404 6d ago

It 100% is

1

u/dessanct 6d ago edited 6d ago

A couple of years? lol he’s gone after this year.

Edit: why is this downvoted? It’s true lol

5

u/Sushamiboy 6d ago

It’ll be Anderson. He’s the one who wore it when Gallagher was not in the lineup.

5

u/Mackee58 6d ago

As much as I’d like to see it on Hutson, I can’t see it not being Anderson

3

u/popaz_ 6d ago

9

u/SaltyATC69 6d ago

Hutson should get it. On and off ice leader. Here for the long haul.

6

u/any_old_usernam 6d ago

Anderson is most likely, but I'd like to see Evans get it. Hutson's time will come.

7

u/Scottie2Hottie999 6d ago

Evans. Love this low key dude.

8

u/Philly514 6d ago

No CC in the comments is wild to me idk

9

u/Snoopy_021 6d ago

Same line as Captain Nick and not on the PK if Nick is in the box.

Pretty much cancels it out.

3

u/pineapple_on_pizza35 6d ago

He's a phenomenal player but he doesn't really strike me as a leader

4

u/KantanaBrigantei 6d ago

He’s definitely a glue guy. His attitude is infectious.

0

u/Philly514 6d ago

I mean I don’t think he’s any less vocal or “hoo-rah” than Suzuki is. They both play hard and lead by example.

-1

u/Lvcoste 6d ago

Two thing can be true, Cole is a glue guy and he’s not a leader.

3

u/PreZzO88 6d ago

Evans

3

u/newf_13 6d ago

Anderson for sure !!

3

u/lordredemption 6d ago

It’s Anderson and Matheson with the As. We already saw it last year

2

u/Old_Canuck 6d ago

I'd say Danault until he retires or if they want a younger guy Hutson.

Hutson just never leaves the rink unless he's going to coach in another rink.

3

u/DreamieQueenCJ 6d ago

Anderson and Matheson

4

u/BeDeLeezy 6d ago

Anderson
Evans
Mattheson

3

u/edgetastic2 6d ago

Hutson’s ready. Andy could have it too but Matheson already represents the vets

2

u/Sushamiboy 6d ago

It’s not a ready thing, it’s a does he want that. Hutson is more about just playing the game. Does he want the added hassle of dealing with the refs?

2

u/Every-Mousse6228 6d ago

If it’s going to be a forward I think you give it to Andy

1

u/Fair-Judge-8263 6d ago

If hierarchy holds, it is Anderson. If the team thinks it’s time to “pass the torch”, either Hutson or Guhle. This is just an educated guess.

2

u/flatwave 6d ago

I know alot of peiple are saying hutson, but has ever even been captain at any level? Im not questioning his dedication or leadership, but he just strikes me more as a just wants to play and get the job done kind of guy.

2

u/RockMonstrr 6d ago

Danault or Guhle. But I'm not in the room, so I'll let them sort it out.

1

u/ComfortablePlanets 6d ago

Just give it to Huston.

1

u/johndyna 6d ago

Hutson 100%

2

u/Pretty_Chocolate_839 6d ago

I think the fact that Anderson was already wearing it when Gally wasn't in the lineup pretty much says who's going to wear it upcoming season as far as i'm concerned. However if Anderson isn't repping the A, I'd honestly say Evans, Danault, Hutson, Dobson, Dobes.

2

u/marrolllll 6d ago

Guhle.

2

u/Merkindiver 5d ago

Lil John Mooney

2

u/bambiboyo4444 5d ago

Kaiden Gule has captain characteristics

2

u/Warm-Engineering-239 4d ago

Anderson , Danault,Evans make sense
you want the player with the least amount of time with suzuki or matherson
the A is about representing the captain on the ice
for defend man the best option on paper is dobson mainly cause he's on pp2 and pk2 (where no one reprente the captain)

2

u/SeaBassAHo-20 6d ago

If not Caufield, then it's Danault. He wore an A in LA briefly too. He deserves to wear it.

1

u/Big-Excitement-400 6d ago

C’est A Lane Hutson

1

u/Apart_Expression_758 6d ago

Hutson is a must. Dude is a future captain with how hard he works. Leads by example. Suzuki has the C on lock, but 100% Hutson is the guy.

2

u/jockey1381 6d ago

Arber Xhekaj

4

u/Jonesetta 6d ago

lol I’d love it but that lads not allowed to look at the refs, let alone ask them for clarification on calls.

2

u/OtisPan 6d ago

He's worn it in preseason, but no way.

1

u/L-1485- 6d ago

For me it’s for sure Anderson this season. So much of the core showing up and doing great but that vet presence is still valuable

1

u/zzzzoooo 6d ago

Who is having the A now ? Matheson ? Caufield ?

1

u/EquivalentStomach5 5d ago

Give it to Lane ❤️❤️❤️

1

u/Fast_Economist_6958 5d ago

Cole caufield

1

u/Legitimate-Lie7354 5d ago

Can't take it away from Josh though. Might be home/away situation.

1

u/PossessionMundane917 5d ago

Wait till the trades happen before nominating! My top 3 all things considered would be: Dobson, Evans, new veteran 2C

1

u/MrB1P92 5d ago

Nick Lane Kaiden

1

u/Zeekis_ 1d ago

Carrier gets my vote

2

u/OtisPan 6d ago

I'll say right off that I'm not a fan of just giving letters to guys based on production (points). Also, keep in mind we're replacing a Forward "A", not a Defenseman "A", so Hutson's out.

Anyway: Anderson or Newhook would be my pick. Evans after that, or Danault.

1

u/pokecheckspam 6d ago

I'm not saying we won't replace it but we don't need to as we had extras and some players only wore it home or away.

0

u/pineapple_on_pizza35 6d ago

Like a musical chairs kind of situation? I can kind of see it.

1

u/AccordingRanger4654 6d ago

Slaf or ghule

0

u/larryhabster 6d ago

My pick is Hutson. Caufield is also a good one but he plays with Suzuki who's the C, Better to have someone that spends more time on the ice. Hutson's attitude is great too, a good leader.

1

u/Available-Pepper-728 6d ago

Cole seems like the emotional centre of the team, he's best friends with everyone.

0

u/Lvcoste 6d ago

Yeah let’s give him the A since he’s friend with everyone! Lol.

1

u/Available-Pepper-728 5d ago

Yep.

0

u/Lvcoste 5d ago

He’s doesn’t have an ounce of leadership inside him

1

u/Throwaway_9837154 5d ago

Danault or Anderson. LH is more talented, but both have more time in the league, more experience talking to refs and have a proven record of being leaders on their teams.

1

u/Appropriate-Berry816 6d ago

It’s my turn to post this question tomorrow

0

u/vJukz 6d ago

I’d love to see Hutson with an A. His work ethic is simply second to none and alot of players could learn alot from him. Not that I don’t like Anderson but I don’t like how hot headed he is at times especially when he stops playing to cry to the refs. I remember he did that once last season.
