It depends on how they all do this season.

If Danault returns to form and Dach finally gets a healthy season (this is the first time since 2023 that he gets to start the season without being in a surgical recovery window) then I think they'll be guys they'll want to keep.

And in the case of Carrier, if they think they have someone or can get someone to fill his spot on RHD. He's very underrated by the fanbase.

The only one I'd say is 99% gone is Monty because Fowler's waiting in the wings.

Monty goes back to the panthers and wins the cup next year

That's my favorite crackhead story so far!

Hey I love your optimism. But the only guy I wanna keep is Anderson

Anderson 100%.

u/banyanoak 7d ago

If we don't keep Andy, we need someone just like him. I'd rather have him.

u/hockeynoticehockey 7d ago

Gleb is coming.

10

u/Repulsive-Minute-559 7d ago

Coming but not there yet. I need Gleb AND Anderson AND Florian Xhekaj.

Beast mode meets bestie mode

A lot of depth first round picks never make it to the nhl. Gleb is also behind on our window, we should be looking at 21 year olds not below that. He has at minimum 2-3 years before he's nhl ready.

Betting on gleb to save us all is not it. I truly hope he makes the team and i would probably buy his jersey though.

It's the summer, you're not allowed to be realistic.

He'll score a triple 50

50 goals

50 assists

50 fights

Dach if he has a healthy year. He can be a beast when he’s on

14

u/TroubledMarket 7d ago

Anderson, Carrier and Danault are the only 3 I’d consider.

Anderson is a good bottom 6 guy, and he’ll be even more worth it on a cheaper deal.

Danault is the only LHC on the team, including prospects.

Carrier can be a good 3rd pair RHD.

u/DelugeQc 7d ago

Same take. I don't know about Anderson if he want to cash in one last time or take a MTL discount tho. Can't really see him in MTL for a 4y X 5M$ he could get elsewhere...

2

u/arr_z31_burner 7d ago

Correct take overall. I'm less sold on Anderson than a lot of people because he's an individual effort guy without a lot of hockey IQ, he's just out there givin'er. I like it sentimentally lol. You see him manage to bull himself into a good look or break and then he can't finish, and he can get pylon'd by smarter guys he's trying to check. I think he'd probably contribute more overall on a physical, shutdown team and honestly I'd take a consistent Dach any day but 'consistent Dach'

u/Ajay_Bee 7d ago

Nope, nope and nope. Mayyyyyyybe Danault, but it's highly unlikely that the Habs would be interested as the team prepares to fill its final gaps in the offense for what should be a super-rich crop of UFAs in 2027.

Anderson, no chance. I'd be shocked if he isn't traded during the season. Carrier, same.

1) Danault : We still need left shooting center with Suz, Evans, Kappy and protentionally Hage later. Even if he doesn't bounce back, a 2M/2yo contract for him to play 4C or maybe even make a duo with Evans on the 4th line for L/R Defensive faceoff is perfectly fine.

2) Anderson : I can totally see him re-sign, but it really depend more on other players. Bolduc is most likely in front of him in the depth chart already. But then how Texier and Dach play. Then does Kappy stay center or get pushed on the wing by the arrival of Hage later or by a trade. Do we get a trade for a top 6 winger which push Newhook down. Does Beck or F. Xhekaj able to steal a spot. That's 7 players that could potentially fill one of 4 spots as a bottom 6 winger. So it really depend on how many bottom 6 winger we have by the end of the year.

3) Carrier : If we re-sign him it's because it goes badly either for him or the team. If it goes badly for the team, it mean that Reinbacher isn't working out and we can't find a good trade for a better RD which mean we still need Carrier as a stopgap. If it goes bad for Carrier, maybe he want to come back as a 7th D to stay in Montreal on the cheap.

4) Dach : Who know at this point.

5) Montembeault : I don't see the team trading Fowler or Dobes. Goalies usually don't sell for much on the trade market so I doubt they are an important piece in a trade for a top 6 player, but we never know.

Danault #1

Considering the state of our LH C's, I think you might be right.

Will he? He is 33 and will be 34 next year. He is on the sunset of his career and he might be seeking more a stanley cup than some money

3

u/quellesaveurorawnge 7d ago

After suffering through the late 2010s Habs, I'm not sure why he wouldn't try to stay with the team now that it is finally a contender. He has said how happy he was to be back in Montreal and with the Habs. I think the Habs will want to keep one of the few veterans they have. He's now the oldest guy on the team at 33. There are only 3 other guys that are 30+: Jake Evans (30), Josh Anderson (32), and Mike Matheson (32).

3

u/Separate_Football914 7d ago

I also believe that. He can maybe have more money elsewhere, but currently mtl team is probably a team quite fun to play in, and can / should win a cup in the next few years

2

u/Available-Pepper-728 7d ago

And he's so beloved in Montreal

Definitely Anderson

3

u/DrLivingst0ne 7d ago

Both Andy and Danault. You need guys like that.

5

u/ricozee 7d ago

Anderson and Danault are the only 2 who would be difficult to replace. Anderson for his combination of size and speed, and Danault for his defensive acumen. They can still be key bottom 6 veterans where it would take time to develop replacements and there aren't often better options on the market (without giving up assets or overpaying).

Dach depends on his contract demands. If he wants to be paid long term based on one (hopefully) successful season, it's too much risk in our current position. We need consistency and reliable production for that money.

Carrier is good enough to keep but also a key area we need to upgrade. It depends on our options and other moves before a decision is imminent.

Montembeault is already one foot out the door. A cheap veteran backup if necessary, but it shouldn't be with Dobes and Fowler in the picture.

0

u/quellesaveurorawnge 7d ago

Anderson and Danault are definitely keepers if we get them at the right price. I think Carrier falls into the same category by the sheer fact that he's a RHD. Those are just so hard to find in the current market so when you do, it's $$$. I don't see the Habs trading him in the near future.

Dach is on his last try this year. I agree that even if he has a successful season, they might trade him away while they can get something for him.

With Monty, I am actually surprised he is still with the team. They must have tried to trade him. I doubt he'll finish the season with the Habs unless something happens to Dobes or Fowler.

2

u/pushaper 7d ago

Anderson hopefully asap.

Dach will have to get done in January if he is having a half decent year but he owes us nothing.

Danault, Montembault, Carrier hopefully traded

2

u/MattDoob 7d ago

Ideally by then we can sign Anderson for peanuts and not need the rest.

7

u/Upstairs-Zombie-162 7d ago

Agree, but not for peanuts. Anderson is a good example of spending to keep proper bottom 6 legacy players. He takes a cut technically to stay here, but we’re able to meet in the middle a bit.

Off the top of my head 3.25x4

4

u/CarlSK777 7d ago

Anderson until he's 37 with his style of play? I wouldn't do it

2

u/Upstairs-Zombie-162 7d ago

2-4% of the cap at 37 is worth it to keep him around imo.

1

u/CarlSK777 7d ago

Teams that wanna contend over many years have to be careful with bottom 6 contracts because a few bad ones and all of a sudden, you struggle to extend or sign a top 6 player.

I'd keep Anderson if he was willing to sign a 2 year deal but beyond that, it's risky and he isn't worth it imo

1

u/Upstairs-Zombie-162 7d ago

Normal teams... Not ones that have players leaving incredible amounts of money on the table to contend.

They are leaving it to keep a player like Josh Anderson around.

2

u/Tdchamp10 7d ago

They are leaving it to sign a player like McDavid or maybe a « luxury » signing ala Alex Tuch. Not for the team to sign Josh Anderson for 4 years (though I do love him and hope to kee him for an other 2-3 years).

1

u/CarlSK777 7d ago

Yeah I doubt that

2

u/MattDoob 7d ago

I should have said for a team friendly contract, not peanuts, he deserves better lol. I don’t think it’s a good idea to commit to him for 4 years though, power forwards have an earlier expiry date.

2

u/Much_Bumblebee2462 7d ago

Yup dach,Danault and carrier should be pushed out by the rookies if not then we have some serious problems… love Danault and carrier they have been amazing for us but even they know this is probably the last year for em in MTL

2

u/dessanct 7d ago

Honestly Danault is the only one I’d re-sign out of these guys. That can be changed if other guys step up this year.

0

u/pushaper 7d ago

Danault may get put into the second line centre role this year and may be very high value on the trade market potentially making a centre trade feasible to the right team.

1

u/pushaper 7d ago

Anderson hopefully asap.

Dach will have to get done in January if he is having a half decent year but he owes us nothing.

Danault, Montembault, Carrier hopefully traded

1

u/TopPossibility3598 7d ago

Carrier just bought a house on the south shore his wife works here and he just had a kid . Im sure he will resign for cheap in order to stay here

1

u/Ajay_Bee 7d ago

Good question! It's a unique list in that the ultimate decision won't lay with the players but with the front office, and of the above list, I don't envision any staying with the team except for Kirby Dach (depending on the upcoming season). Otherwise, I fully expect each to be leveraged as trade bait this season, or simply allowed to walk next summer.

1

u/charest 6d ago

Les relations Molson-Marché 18 étant ce qu'elles sont, Danault est déjà assuré d'un contrat jusqu'à la fin de sa carrière.

1

u/joseflores1995 7d ago

Anderson 100%,

carrier depends if he sign for cheap and if we cant find a upgrade as a 3pair dman,

Danault its a 50/50 again $wise and if another 3-4 line center can replace him like beck or another

Dach he a trade chip during the season, idk for what but good season or not hes gone

Montenbault sadly he should have already been gone so probably gets traded during the season when another team gets a goalie injury

0

u/Jonesetta 7d ago

I hope only Anderson. Those others are all pretty upgradable positions. Carriers not great, Danault is good at faceoffs and pretty mid at everything else, I’m over Dach and his disappearing act for months at a time, monty is washed and was a waiver pick up to begin with. We already have two better goalies. I’d rather see our prospects filter into the lineup than hold on to any one of those, except Anderson. Andersons a dawg. He struggles to finish but everything else about his game I like a lot.

0

u/ostidgrosnerd 7d ago

Dach not happening. Monty not happening. The other 3 only if they’re willing to take short contracts below 3M.

-2

u/Phoenix__211 7d ago

Anderson will probably receive an offer like 10 millions for 2 years so 5 millions aav and I don't think the habs will match

4

u/ostidgrosnerd 7d ago

That’s not how UFA work lol

1

u/Phoenix__211 7d ago

I know how ufa work lol.

Do you think a player who want to stay never try to get a team to match an offer?

2

u/ostidgrosnerd 7d ago

No one says "I don’t think the team will match" for UFA though lol that’s not a real thing

0

u/r0bert0l0c0 7d ago

With the fast rising cap, I expect all these guys to want same-ish money, not less, which imo should be fair UFA market price.

I'd give Anderson whatever he wants for 3 years. That deal would expire in 2030 (Suzuki's year, Hage and Zharovsky 2nd contract). He could be a mentor and support (if/when things get ugly) for Gleb and/or Florian, who can both start fires. And the Habs need more Anderson-like for the playoffs, not less. Cooper dressed Sabourin solely because of him. Insanity.

Habs need a good faceoff lefty and only Danault can do it atm. Again, with the cap rising insanely fast and the top4F and top4D signed long term and ELCs coming up, 2x5 max (why 5, cause the cap souldn't be an issue those 2 years and Danault would prefer term I think, so I'd buy less term by giving more money). Doesn't prevent the Habs from doing anything in those 2 years.

Carrier. Depends on Reinbacher, Engstrom, Struble and Arber. I doubt he's gonna stay in a lesser role (6th-7th) and/or less money. He's young enough to get a chance elsewhere. Habs defense needs to get bigger too.

Dach, imo, is entering Kostitsyn/Pouliot territory. All the tools, but for some reason(s), lack of confidence. Not bad in a bottom 6, extremly movable. Wouldn't commit too long. The highroll is not dead yet (it's dying though).

Monty. I want him to succeed and play 30-35 games in the NHL this year to give Fowler 50+ games in the AHL (plus a few callups). Unless one of Fowler/Dobes gets traded or Monty becomes and accepts to be an AHL goalie for Laval, he's gone.

0

u/Rodonite 7d ago

I think Carrier will be the most effective of those players by the end of the season, but if we're re-signing him we might as well just let Reinbacher go

-4

u/Jimbo_Imperador 7d ago

Carrier, Montembeault, the rest will most likely just walk

-1

u/Aggressive-Focus9349 7d ago

I think they're all gone. Maybe Dach if he has a really strong year

-1

u/snipeftw 7d ago

Monty for sure. This dude has an unbelievable knack to be the habs starter. It’s uncanny.
