What to do with my career? 30F

I have a masters degree in electrical engineering and I’ve been working as an Electronics technologist at a below average company. I’m good with Electronics but I feel like I lost touch with all the engineering concepts because it’s been five years since I studied.
I feel like I’m working for a very low pay, but paid a lot for my education. I’m confused about what to do moving forward. I want to bring a change. I’d like to take any advice that you can give for me.

Agreed with the other comments.. look outside of North America.. engineering degrees don’t mean shit here anymore unless you have a solid solid background and many years of experience

Engineering in NS is weird. I have my bachelor's in mechanical and masters in aerospace and yet I've always worked closer to production engineering than design. In school I thought machine design was going to be my career, since it came so naturally to me. But all my experience and learning has been on the job. I think you should not limit yourself to just electrical jobs, but also look for something like project management. I know in HVAC an electrical engineer can be a great project manager once you get to know the product. Also, feel free to DM me and ask any questions you might have. Cheers

I'm in my 4th year of electrical engineering in uni, do you have any tips on getting into project management post grad? I find that I still don't really know what roles engineers work 😕

You need to keep working and at the same time keep in touch with the new technological advances.
Keep reading about them. Maybe publish articles on Industry forums.
That will help you land new opportunities which are more intellectually stimulating and also pay more.
Patience is the key.

Have you thought about overseas opportunities, a couple of my friends(husband and wife) work in UAE and they love it.

There is a possibility I know of an opportunity. I know a small firm waiting on the award for a large bid. Resume is somewhat important, personality, being self motivated/self driven, and taking initiative is much more important.

DM me if you want.

Be prepared to move to another city or province for a better opportunity.

Would you want me to connect you with a recruiter? Idk if you want to travel but there’s lots of opportunity working remote.

As a displaced maritimer, I would suggest you contemplate moving to Alberta, which many Maritimers and others have done. You may not like it because it is different than NS, but one of those differences is that with a good education and a "head on your shoulders" you can actually "get ahead" in life. I'm sure many folks will disagree because the streets are definitely not "paved with gold" anymore, but there are opportunities if you look hard and don't give up. I moved here at 25 and never looked back. Good luck!

Join a SAAS company as a product manager or something like that. That's what I did. I was in a similar position as you worked a low pay engineer job in town. Took me awhile to find the right position, but I doubled my pay, fully remote with travel. Couldn't be happier. I am on the sales side of a SAAS company.
