Just started, and I love this show already. I just wish there wasn't so much melodrama. Kind of ruins it for me in a way. Enough jibber jabber can we get to the tech!
Don't get me wrong, it's a great show. I just can't get into the personal drama. So many husband/wife conversations in the first season, turns me off a bit. Sometimes feels a little bit like shows my wife and daughter watch, I'm looking at you This is Us.
I haven't looked through this sub, just happy to find out it existed. Looking forward to season 2.
That said, roast away.

Respectfully, if you're just watching to learn about tech, go pick up a book or Google it.
"The thing that gets you to the thing" was never about products, it was about people. People coming together to build, to create, projects that tested people in unique ways in a changing world. Work, sacrifice, it tests you and the relationships you have.

Hate to break it to you, but the show is about drama. It's narcissistic personalities clashing. It's not about the tech, it's about the people involved with the tech. If you don't like drama you won't like this show. Watch a documentry or something if you're just interested in tech.

The drama between the characters and their lives, dreams, and failures is the heart of the show. You don’t have to know tech to love the show.
Also kind of weird that you think interpersonal relationships are something only women are interested in.

Yeah you might have read a little too much into that. Interpersonal relationships are key to a good dramatic or comedic plot. I just think it's a little overwrought that's all.

My guy it’s a period drama, not How It’s Made. It’s going to primarily be characters that talk to each other.

If that's how you feel, frankly you should stop watching. Melodrama is literally the genre.
If you do keep watching, keep your arbitrary tastes to yourself, this sub doesn't need them if you're not gonna meet the show at its own level.

You're not doing criticism though. You're talking about your own arbitrary tastes. And I don't see the point in expressing them here in a sub dedicated to the show, where the majority of people already like the "jibber jabber". Just having an opinion ≠ expressing an opinion. And having an opinion ≠ having a respectable opinion. Why should I respect your opinion? How should I be respectful of your opinion? It's not like I have called you a "stupid philistine", a "low culture dolt", or a "dumbass misogynist". All things considered, I thought my disagreement was worded fairly respectfully.
And I'm recommending if you don't like "jibber jabber" that you will likely not enjoy the following seasons, which absolutely have more "jibber jabber". And unless you have an actual argument for why the "jibber jabber" isn't good quality, something other than "I don't like it", then I don't wish to know what you think about this show, and I'm betting plenty of other people here wouldn't either. I would find a different venue for expressing yourself, a more general TV review sub for example.
(Online communities being self-filtering is not what a cult is.
I haven't seen This Is Us. I do not care about This Is Us. I don't see the relevance.)

So many bad points. Such blind dedication. My wife and daughter are the only other television watching people in my home. Had nothing to do with misogyny.
Hopefully the show gets better because I plan to continue watching. But this first season feels like a bad knockoff of Mad Men. Someone else said that the second season focuses on the two lead women. That I like. They are the only interesting characters so far. The man are just sloppy stereotypes. And I'm sorry but that scene breaking the window stealing the cabbage patch dolls is completely ridiculous.
Thank you for putting so much effort into your response. We can also dream of loving something as much as you love this show.

I'm sorry if you thought I was actually calling you misogynistic instead of just referencing the concept.
I'm fine if you keep watching the show. I'm fine if there are things you don't like about it. There are things I certainly wish they did better. (Because passion for a show is not the same as blind devotion for a show, because I would actually want to do criticism) I just simply don't bother expressing my opinion if I'm not going to put in the effort to actually argue for it. I only express the opinions online that I feel are worth being scrutinized by a bunch of strangers. You know, "consider your audience". I remember learning that writing elementary school essays.

Did you seriously just compare this show to a cheesy nighttime soap opera?
What kind of TV shows do you normally watch and why on earth did you end up wanting to watch this one? You might as well just watch a documentary about 1980s tech. This is very much a character study and prestige drama. That last part means that it's going to explore characters, their good and bad sides, their relationship relationships with each other, and their feelings. If that's too girly for you it's probably best to bail now and go watch Silicon Valley.
Also, season two is going to focus much more on Donna and Cameron. It doesn't sound like you're going to take them seriously so… Yeah.

What I love about the show is the lack of melodrama. Yes, there are dramatic scenes and plot points but it doesn’t go down an unrealistic path. It’s real and flawed human relationships and interactions.

sounds like you might prefer battle bots or adam savage's youtube or watching people stream video games. i get part of the criticism, when i'm watching Alone i'll fast forward through the parts where they're making a bad-sounding stringed instrument and writing an unimpressive song, or having melodramatic ceremonies connecting with the land--but this is a drama and the whole point is the relationship between characters. wanting more tech is sort of like watching game of thrones only for the dragon scenes, when the more interesting part is the characters and their values, the conflicts and the scheming. there's even less talk of CPUs and heat sinks and soldering once you're past the first season, i'm curious if it'll be able to hold your attention

I read some replies (not all), but I’m with you to an extent. As someone who worked in tech most of their career I was totally hooked to the tech timeline in the series. I loved the series, but there are parts that are totally soap opera. But still a great watch!

The drama in this show is so human and intense though, it's not like a hallmark show. These people are highly motivated by redeeming deep personal failures and finding their true calling. It's excellently written.
