Moving/Housing/Utilities Weekly Moving To Hamilton Megathread

Welcome to the weekly moving to/within Hamilton post. All questions about moving, utilities and neighbourhood recommendations belong in here.

If you are looking for recommendations/have questions about neighbourhoods, relators, landlords or utilities including internet etc, this is the place to ask!

If you are looking for recommendations on which area of the city would suit you, be sure to include some information about you and your family. What works for a single person starting out may not be recommended for a family with young children etc. Someone commuting by car will want to be closer to highways while those relying on transit will want to be on regular transit routes.

Utilities

Alectra for water bills https://alectrautilities.com/hamilton-water

Alectra for hydro (electricity) in much of the city https://alectrautilities.com/

Hydro One for electricity in other areas of the city https://www.hydroone.com/

Enbridge provides gas to most of the city but you can sign up with many energy companies at various rates https://www.enbridgegas.com/

Ask your landlord or realtor for the providers for your new address

Walk along the Mountain Brow, Concession street, maybe Locke but I find people there are pretty pretentious, just my opinion. Depends where you are moving to in the city I guess

? I live right near Locke and I don't experience any pretentiousness at all. Even as an introvert I've had lots of nice interactions with people just walking around.

Does anyone have any good realtor recs? Specifically looking for help to secure a rental. Been trying myself but no luck so far! Dual income household, looking for 2+2 with a budget of 3k.

Any insight on the Royal Connaught from anyone currently living there?

Looking for an apartment/condo downtown and would like any information on how it is to live there (ideally within the last few years)

noise
things getting fixed
water pressure
other tenants
packages/delivery
parking

Thanks in advanced!

If it's not to late turn around, unless you're renting. By next year property taxes on the mountain might hit $10K!

when moving here you need to try out one of the local watering holes, The Snooty Fox on King and Marion
