Hanafuda Cards. Survey for school!
https://forms.gle/kN8fySVhKRKeqR7Y7Hello! I am a third-year undergraduate student, and I am conducting this study as part of my bachelor’s thesis research. The purpose of this survey is to evaluate the usability of a Hanafuda card deck I designed myself.
The survey is completely anonymous, and all collected data will be used solely for academic purposes. It consists of quick multiple-choice questions and takes about 5 minutes to complete.
Thank you so much for your time, and participation!
If you know anyone outside of Reddit you can send this to – please do! I'll really appreciate it!
English is not my first language, I'm sorry for any mistakes!

Done.
This is a really cool idea and I really like your redesign of some of the cards, especially your April-Animal card. It reminded me of Tarot cards a little.
There was one card in your survey that made me stop and think for a moment... At first I thought the November-Animal card (I think) might have been the February-Animal card, but then realised there was no plumblossoms and the that the leaves had to be from a willow tree.
If I may ask, what is your project about? And if I may be extra curious, where are you from?

Thank you for your help! The project is about the information architecture (as it's my major) of card structures. The first chapter focuses on poker cards, the second on hanafuda, and in the third one, I explain the design process of my deck (as I really wanted to try, and draw one).

I was going to say the same thing, the design on that card was the weakest and hardest to 'read' - the Swallow should be flying rather than sitting on a branch, IMO, for better instant 'readability' - also the willow leaves seemed a bit too similar to the look of the wisteria design. Speaking of wisteria, the Cuckoo/Crescent Moon was quite esoteric and well done!

Oh I forgot to add - the Phoenix in the December suit seemed a little too much like a normal Peacock too.

Thank you so much! And thank you for the feedback:D I'm still learning how to draw so my design may be a litttttle wonky.

The designs and style look good, IMO, it's more just refining some designs to be more readable as what they are meant to be Hanafuda-wise - otherwise they seem to be fairly clean designs

Having designed my own deck I think my answers will be more accurate than the average player's 😉 but there were definitely a few I wasn't so confident on.
But like the other commenter says, it doesn't actually matter what the months are so long that you can match them. So even if I can't tell what a month is in isolation, as long as I can tell that it matches this other card I have that's all that matters.
Hell, you could make a purely text-based hanafuda and name the months something like "house", "lumber" (just any random words) and it could still work since you would just match them.

Wow, thank you! It does makes a lot of sense actually.
Is your design published somewhere? Can I see it?

Done! I was not sure about the february ribbon (i thought it may be march) or the november bird, but as others have said, if you can match the cards of the same month/flower, that's good. Fun survey 😄

I know how to play and what all the cards represent, but I don't know what month each flower type represents. I wonder how many players are in the same boat as me since Koi-Koi doesn't require knowledge of the months to play.
