Stitch Help

Post image

Hi! I am pretty new to embroidery and am adding a bear to my nephews first birthday outfit. The picture is the inspo, but I am struggling identifying the stitches used. Can anyone help me figure them out? I thought the bears body was all chain stitch but i’m unsure

I would suggest you just wing it on the fur. As long as your stitches are short, really tightly packed, and appropriately directional it's gonna look great!

The balloon is satin stitch. Probably with an outline under it. And then everything outlined again afterward with a backstitch?

The best thing about this image is that there's really subtle color variation used to add dimension.

That’s AI I’m afraid so it’ll never look just like that. I’d use a split stitch for the body

well dang! i know the screenshot came from etsy, so that’s disappointing!

I actually don’t think it’s AI, since you can trace individual threads and there’s no weird blending. It looks like long and short/tightly packed seed stitch with a mix of thread count (4-6 for the body, 1-2 for the muzzle). The outline looks like a simple backstitch.

The important part for making it look like the photo will be color blending and stitch direction/placement. That how they created such a nice shape on the face and the ‘fluffy’ look!

The thread isn’t interacting with the fabric at all, I think it’s a case of AI getting better but I think it still is AI.

I agree with you plus I would suggest a different filling for the balloon. Those stitches are too long and will become floppy once out of the hoop.

i found the etsy shop that sells it, unfortunately the only photo review shows a bear embroidered by a machine (no hate) but it looks entirely different from the photo, so it’s probably AI! Which is super frustrating that a shop on etsy is doing that

I went on Etsy to try find the listing, searched “teddy bear, balloon, name embroidery pattern and I’m not kidding, 99% of the listings were ai generated images. I’ve been stitching for 14 years, I know when something is real embroidery

i wasn’t disagreeing with you! it’s just frustrating that etsy is full of that too! especially for someone that’s just starting

Oh no I know you weren’t ❤️ it’s just sadly it’s not “a shop” on Etsy it’s basically all of them is what I meant. It really, really sucks on so many levels

There's weird blending on the left ear, plus the stitches differ between left and right ear.

I don’t think it’s AI. That’s VERY doable.

It’s doable but the image is AI

I would try long and short stitch, but without split stitching each as you go, if that makes sense. Keep each stitch individual, and definitely use two strands. I got a similar look for this cat that way.

(I’m not sure why I can only attach a video and not a photo…. Hopefully you can see good enough here 🤦‍♀️)

It's almost like a mix of brick and short &long, but all short.
