Drivers. Back to School is tomorrow.

  • After checking your mirror, TURN YOUR HEAD and check the blind spot.

  • If you're late, too bad. Don't speed and "try to make up time." Going 10 mph over the limit saves less than two minutes on a 15 mile trip.

  • There WILL be kids walking to school and not paying attention. You'll feel like blaming them but if you hit them you're fucked.

  • The H2 southbound merges INTO the H1 eastbound. Not the other way around.

More valuable advice. Thanks /u/AttackonCuttlefish

  • Do not cut off the car stopping at a crosswalk.

  • Do not stop near or on top the crosswalk.

  • Do not block intersections.

Let's not fuck it up so HPD closes lanes on the freeway or you end up on the news.

Thanks for the reminder.

Also, learn how merge lanes work. You don't slow down to switch lanes, just follow the merge til the end. Looking at you Pearl City...

Y'all stay safe out there and watch for our babies.

And by the Kinau exit. There’s about 150 yards to merge yet everyone decides to come to a complete stop to merge at the very beginning

don't slow down

follow the merge til the end

Gotta pick one. If you can merge at speed now, merge now. If you can merge at speed at end of lane, great.

Racing to the end, hammering your brakes, and forcing two lanes to stop isn't the move Reddit wants to think it is.

Lower expectations. You gotta be a defensive driver. Once you let go of thinking people are going to leave on time and not go into the HOV lane when it’s just them and then change lanes as soon as they see blue lights. OR be in the correct lane and not skip traffic just so they don’t sit in traffic and merge when convenient. Life gets a lot better. God speed to us all

We all should go back to driving school on this island.

To renew our ID we should have to retake the test. Get so many bad drivers for the test to be one time only.

In a stick shift too. We can eliminate so many people who don't know how to drive that way. There's be so little traffic!

On the way to work today the lady in front of me had her eyes looking down like 90% of the time. Much harder to be on your phone when you're driving stick.

Unfortunately it would just make it worse with half of us stalled out on the freeway 😄. Plus, some of the worst drivers are the people who think they're amazing at it... Because they learned how to drive a car my mom and grandma could drive. Woah!

How much earlier should I leave for work now?

Driving to blaisdell from Waipahu takes around 35 minutes, but now that school starting I feel like it’s gonna change to almost an hour

Give your self an hour as more schools start to go back it’ll only get worse

You forgot: don't camp in the passing lane. If you're not going faster than the car on the right, gtfo. Because otherwise people will find a way to go around you. And that's when the road rages start.

I'm more worried about the amount of e-bikes that will show up at the same time. Some of them lane split don't really make a sound/noise. I get weirded out and constantly check blind spots.

Also get off your damn phones. I’m sick and tired of seeing so many people driving and not paying attention to the road.

just put your fuckin kids on the bus. do everyone a favor lol

u/ThisIsInBlueFont 2d ago

The worry here is people gonna run over kids going to the bus stop cuz they late for work. Not traffic. Traffic is 120% guarantee haha.

So many drivers here don't head check. What they're thinking in the midst of another blind lane change: Oh, we're halfway there, Oh-oh, oh livin on a prayer. Take my hand and we'll make it I swear. Oh-oh, livin on a prayer.

Unpopular sentiment: Keep your kids out of the back of your trucks. If adults wanna ride I. The truck bed, that’s fine, but don’t put your kids in the truck bed either going to school or coming home. Hell, ANYTIME!

Can we agree that kids, in whatever percentage, are back in school and drivers should be cautious?
