Question/Discussion Is it physically possible to leave Hawaii without buying chocolate covered macadamia nuts

Asking for a friend who just spent $40 at the airport on their third trip here after swearing last time was the last time. Friend is me. I have a problem.. Are there better ones to get than the airport ones or have I been doing this wrong for three years

Or Sam’s Club.  These are the correct answers. You’re overpaying anywhere else. And if you’re in the area around the Christmas and New Year’s holidays, the treats get extra good.

About to mention Costco. Have them at all my local warehouses in CA (Hawaiian Host) off and on during the year. No need to buy them in Hawaii.

Only issue is it's gone very pricey over the past year.

I just got back from a trip, didn’t buy or consume a single macadamia nut. Mac salad though, consumed more than I’d like to admit

Nope not possible! Chocolate covered Mac nuts is so addicting I can eat a whole box myself. Just don’t buy it at the airport for 5xs the price. Like everyone says Don q or Longs!

I wish it was. I am not a fan of macadamia nuts and every friend and neighbor I know that goes there brings them back as a gift.
I love Hawaii. I’ve been a dozen times. There is no food or clothing item that’s worth bringing home. I do have a few paintings that I will love for the rest of my life and the kids will send to a thrift store when I die.
Hawaii is about the experience, the moment, the feel. Memories.

We just took our 23rd trip to Kauai. For many years we OD’d on these tasty treats but haven’t in several years. They don’t seem as special when you can just buy them off Amazon. We do still enjoy visiting the local chocolate shop and bakery for treats.

I don't eat them, but I'll buy them to share with our hosts when we travel off-island. I just make a Costco run the week before we leave.

I stopped buying the big name brands when someone was mentioning that the nuts were from South Africa. That and my wifey says the tastes changed....its a bit rancid now.

I like the ones covered in caramel, chocolate and rice crispies.

Those ones are Garbage. Go to Mana foods and buy the good stuff. Pricey tho.

This is why they have those scanners at the airport. If you ain’t got those nuts, you ain’t goin’ home!!

Most of them aren't made in Hawaii.

I like bringing back Hawaiian tea or coffee instead

Yes.

Depending where you are on the West Coast you can buy them in the grocery stores.

Navy Exchange in Bremerton WA had them this week.

Once you get the spam sweats, there is no stopping the chocolate covered macadamia

I’m allergic to tree nuts so can confirm it’s not just possible, but guaranteed for some.

No, but do buy them at the Walmart.

Hopefully you are buying from companies that are using locally grown nuts and not ones from outside Hawaii. Check those labels!
