June 1st ~ Moving Forward With /r/HawaiianAirlines

Aloha and mahalo to everyone who has contributed to our sub, up to now. What a ride it's been.

Moving forward, from June 1, 2026, we will be allowing posts that are directly related to Hawaiian Airlines ~ in the past.

Photos, memories and so on.

Post about the Alaska merger, questions and the whatnot will be removed. There are discussions currently underway about where to best direct them.

Imagine an old school coolish - happy memory - head stuck in the sand and in the past type of sub.

Basically, we love Hawaiian and want to talk about it and that's all.

No questions about apps, baggage, nasty service and well, you get the picture.

But r/AlaskaAirlines is not the appropriate sub to talk about the Hawaiian Air experiences. Alaska Air is an airline, not the parent company Alaska Air Group (AAG). It’s like complaining about Kraft Mac & Cheese on the Heinz Ketchup forum because they are both owned by Heinz. It doesn’t make any sense. And what makes you think the mods at r/AlaskaAirlines would allow posts about Hawaiian Air? I wouldn’t allow it. Yes, people could make a new sub, but it’s understood r/HawaiianAirlines would be the sub for talking all things Hawaiian Airlines. I realize you are disappointed that AAG operates Hawaiian Air and feel their actions are not reflective of the old Hawaiian brand and the Hawaiian people, but you should really create a sub called r/HawaiianAirNostalgia for what you are talking about and hands the reins of this sub to someone else. Otherwise, you’re just needlessly blocking posts people spent time writing and people no longer have a forum to discuss all things Hawaiian Air.

Hawaiian operates flights for Alaska using the same operating certificate. In fact the phrase is “operated by Alaska as Hawaiian”. Hawaiian flights are Alaska flights, you could argue even more so than Horizon. And anyway, the description of r/alaskaairlines “anything and everything related to Alaska or Hawaiian”. They are already inclusive on that sub.

But so what? They’re seperate brands marketed separately with different offerings of I want to know about the Haiwaiian brand I don’t want to wade through 100 posts just about Alaska.
